Advantages: lots of choices, huge savings

Disadvantages: restrictions on Friday or Saturday nights in most places

The TasteLondon Card is basically a discount card that will get you either 50% off food or 2 for 1 at a whole variety of restaurants in London and the home counties.

The normal price they advertise this card at is £79.95, however I am not sure if anyone ever actually pays this as you can always find a way of getting it cheaper if you wait around for a bit. I got my card for £29.95 in the end. This was after signing up for a month's free trial which is often advertised in the newspapers (especially the Metro). After your trial ends they will then offer you via email the card at the full price. If you don't take it up the following week they will offer at £49 I think it was and then I think it either went down to £35 or £29 straight away. I had read on moneysavingexpert website from other people that the lowest it would go would be £29 so i signed up then as they only give you a week to decide!

I have already made my money back from this easily! They send you a book with a list of all the restaurants you can use it in and any restrictions such as not on a Friday or Saturday, and also some of the restaurants you have to call and book in advance.

If you eat out in Central london a lot you will definately find this card worth it, if like me you eat out closer to home and happen to live in the suburbs there is less choice but it is still an excellent card.

Although there are many discount offers for Pizza Express all the time I find the best one is using my card, plus the fact I have it on me all the time rather than having to think about printing off a voucher means that if I just am out and happen to pop in for lunch or dinner with a friend then we automatically know we can get a discount. Pizza Express is also a good option becauase there are no restrictions and so if I am eating out on a Friday or Saturday I would usually go here.

Prezzo is another good one as there are Prezzo's all over the place but unfortunately you can't use the card on a Friday or Saturday here.

I've used it in a few different restaurants in Central london too and it really makes the cost of eating out so much cheaper that I know i have definately got my £29 back probably just on my own savings but also as in most places you can have 4 to 6 people dining on the same card (some places up to 10) then i have saved my friends loads of money too!

Some places like The Real Greek and a few local restaurants near me only let you use the card once but most restaurants you can go back as many times as you like.

If you wanted to be really stingy and just have a glass of tap water and a pizza somewhere you would end up paying only about £3.50 or £4 for this! Obviously the main way the restaurants make there money is through the drinks as these are not discounted.

I would thoroughly recommend this card but look at the website to see what restaurants are near you and what restrictions there are. If i didn't work in London and live on the outskirts it wouldn't be so good even though you can use the card as far as some places in Hampshire including Southampton the places are very limited.

The only problem I have had with the card so far was with Roadhouse in Covent Garden. It was one of the few places near Covent Garden that would have let us use the card on a Saturday night but the card rule for this place was that you had to book ahead. When i called to book the latest dining time they could offer was 6.30pm! Otherwise you just had to turn up and hope to get a table - but i have a feeling that they may have been offering these times because of the TasteLondon card and that if you had tried to book without using the card you may have been offered a later table. Its not a theory I tested and in the end we went to Pizza Express in Covent Garden instead!

The card does have your name on it and a few restaurants make you sign an additional form or give more information so it is a card that you need to buy for yourself and can't go lending it out to people!

Is this mostly for chain restaurants, or are there any good 'indies' on the list?

I had a free trial and then never bothered using it - now they bombard me with emails! :(
