Advantages: Animal welfare at heart, great in dealing with unwanted or stray cats

Disadvantages: NONE!

The Cats Protection League, A Charity formed in 1927 is comitted in helping stray or unwanted kittens or cats. In October last year I picked up my local paper to find the number for my local branch (Bewdley), that phone call was the best thing I ever did as I would never have found my gorgeous cat Norman without it.

The next step was for a memeber of the charity to come to my home and check I was suitable, I was not offended as the vist was purely to see if I lived on a main road or had any big dogs living next door, many of these cats are scared and frightend and if a dog barks or a car goes crashing past it can un-settle them even more. Once the staff were happy that I was sutable I was invited to go and meet the cats and kittens. I was looking for a cat as I had previously had a kitten and felt the cats sometimes get over-looked, here I met Norman, a timid little animal whos eyes melted me! That ws it, I was hooked and knew I wanted no other. There were several kittens at the barn as well as a lively borther and sister, but Norman was for me!!!

The charity then had Norman neutered and micro-chipped before his arrival. This is something which the charity does as is often the case, alot of unwanted cats and kittens come from people not having their cats neutered and then are left to fend for themselves.

On the day of his arrival I was nervous and so was he, the Charity bring a cage for Norman to use as his 'base', they believe this gives the cat time to adjust to their new home whilst in the space that they are used to. You are asked to give a donation towards the fees the cat has incurred such as the vets treatments but this is discressionary. Since that day Norman has developed into a lovely affectionate cat and my best friend. You are never just left to get on with it, there is a fact sheet and a list of contact numbers, I also get a quarterly magazine.

The charity operates in 2 ways, voluntter run branches or adoption centres. At present there are 29 adoption centres, 252 voluntary-run branches, 59 charity shops and approximately 7,000 volunteers located throughout the UK. They have been affected by the collapse of the Icelandic banks with deposits of up to 11 million at risk. So what can I say, any little helps, whether it is cat food, buscuits, blankets or the odd change in your pocket, the charity needs all the help it can get as to me it is priceless.

Summary: Animal charity commited to helping unanted or stray cats

My Jazz is from the RSPCA. Personally, I think everyone should get their cat from charities - there are just so many out there wanting a good home to go to!

I have only ever had one cat, and she came from the CPL after being abandoned as a kitten for having epilepsy. I would certainly go back to them when I want another cat.
