Advantages: Fast, easy to use, loads of recoding capacity, is an HD source

Disadvantages: Only 1 HD channel currently

Virgins equivalent of Sky + is a superb Personal Video Recorder in my opinion

It allows you to pause and rewind live tv. You can record 2 channels while watching a 3rd. It has up to 80 hours of recording capacity. It is also an HD source meaning you can watch HD content assuming you have an HD TV.

The box also has the features of other Virgin/NTL boxes, including catch up tv (including BBC Iplayer), movies and music on demand etc.

I have had Sky + in the past and actually prefer this product. I have no loyalty whatsoever to Virgin, in fact I think their customer services and engineers are diabolical, yet I must admit thir V+ box is sensational. It probably has something to do with the fact Virgin were not involved in its development or manufacture in any way. The basic hardware is the same as was used by Telewest before they took it over. It is quicker, easier to use and has more features and more recording capacity than SKy +. Once you have it, you cannot do without it.

There were a few issues when the box was first introduced (I had it from the start) but the problems have been ironed out as they have updated the software. It is now rapid and my box has not crashed for over a year and it is in daily use.

The fact it has HD as standard is also an advantage over Sky +. You would have to pay extra with Sky to get their SKy + HD box. However SKy HD does have a huge advantage in that their is currently only one HD channel on Virgin and I think over 15 on SKY. This should improve in the future though/

If you want an advanced, quick, easy to use PVR with loads of capacity and an HD source, you should seriously look into getting this product. Check their website for prices but it is around £75 which is an absolute bargain for a product which becomes invaluable and is close to being faultless.

Summary: Its simply brilliant and better than the standard SKY equivalent
