Advantages: really works if you stick to it
Disadvantages: you may get some weeks where you don't lose weight and it can be disheartening
I have tried many diets in the last few years, weight watchers being one of them. I decided to try weight watchers about 2 and a half years ago as I was trying for a baby but was very overweight and the doctors suggested that I lose weight as they do. Anyway I researched where the nearest weight watchers meeting was by going online at www.weightwatchers.co.uk, and the nearest one was about 10 minutes from my house so not far to go. I was really nervous about going the first time especially when I arrived at the door and people were queuing out of the door chatting happily to people around them, I felt really out of place.
When I got in there was a table where I had to fill in a form stating my name, address, DOB, whether I had been before etc. I then had to queue again to pay, I think at the time it was £4.95 then I had to continue to queue to be weighed, thankfully people waiting to be weighed can't see or hear what your weight is which is what really worried me before going. The leader was a lady who had previously had a lot of weight to lose so she new what we were going through. She was very friendly and gave me a starter pack and asked me to stay behind at the end to discuss the whole programme.
I looked around the rest of the room and there was lots of chairs and a table with things that you can buy such as weight watchers cookery books, points calculators, scales, biscuit bars and sweets etc. I purchased some sweets they are really yummy and take away the feeling of being deprived of sweets whilst on the diet. I sat down and thankfully people started talking to me, during the meeting the leader discusses different weight watchers foods and any problems people may be having. After the meeting the leader discussed with me and a couple others the programme you can either do a points plan or a core plan.
The points plan is a system where every food equals so many points and you have to do a quiz to determine how many points you are allowed, different amount of points are determined by things such as your weight and the exercise you do. On this plan you can eat anything you like as long as you stick within your daily points allowance. On the core plan you eat as much as you need to feel satisfied as long as it's from the range of healthy foods available.
I chose to do the points plan as I just didn't think I would stop myself eating even if I felt full, this worked out really well and in 10 weeks I lost a stone and a half. I stopped going as I found out I was pregnant. I have recently been back to weight watchers but did not keep it up as I couldn't focus on my goal and I now know they do a monthly fee which they did not do when I last went, the monthly fee is £17.95 and you get free access to the esource on their website. Paying weekly is now £5.50.
I really feel weight watchers works if you set your self a goal and are motivated to lose the weight. The foods are not too bad; most of the cakes available are very yummy. I would recommend weight watchers without a doubt to a friend who wants to lose weight.
Summary: A good way to lose weight it really works,
