Advantages: Great motivation for losing weight and diets you can stick to.

Disadvantages: Nasty women all confined to one room.

*****Introduction*****

After gaining nearly half a stone over the Christmas period, I decided I needed to take action as all of my jeans started to feel tight and I didn't want to have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe.

So at the beginning of this month me and a close friend decided to take up the weight watcher challenge, as all other diet methods had failed in the past.

*****Registering*****

Registering to join weight watchers was really simple, all you have to do is go the their web site at www.weightwatchers.co.uk to find your nearest meetings and here you can get details on how to register.

I personally printed of a free registration voucher from the site as this saved me 9.95, which is the usual registration cost. So at my first meeting I only had to pay 5.50 for my weight in.

After you have filled out your registration details you will get weighed for the first time, this will be known as you start weight. Your weight watcher leader will then either give you your goal weight or at 10% goal weight target.

This target is what you will be aiming for over the next few months.

*****The diets*****

There are two different diets you can follow the first being the core plan, where you can eat as much of the core foods that are listed in the weight watcher books you are given at your registration. Core plan is very easy to follow but you are restricted to certain foods, this is great if you are not to fussy on what you eat.

The next diet is the point plan, this I where you monitor what you eat and work out their point values. This works well if you are restricted to what you can eat, I personally love this diet as you can still have a bacon butty if you fancy one.

I have tried the core plan but I found the points much easier to follow, and it is currently working really well for me as I am losing 1-2 lbs a week.

*****Other points*****

The best thing is that you can earn extra points by exercising, so if you have had a heavy day the previous day you can claw back the additional points you have eaten.

At every meeting you get your weigh in and then the actual meeting, this is aimed to encourage you to lose more by sharing your experiences with other weight watchers.

***** My views*****

I personally think that 5.50 for standing on a set of scales is very pricey, but while it is working for me I am going to stick with it.

The thing I hate is when I stay for the meetings, I am not a big woman and I only needed to lose 10lbs to get to my goal weight. I felt very conscious as the other women were asking why I was actually there as they had stones to lose and not just a few pounds. So I found this very intimidating and have not returned to the meetings.

Now I go really early to weight in and then slop off before the meeting starts, I am a very private person and I hated sharing my experiences with the others so I don't do the actually meetings but this still works as the weight watcher leader is very supportive and encourages me constantly.

I can really see how these diet plans can work for those who really need to lose lots of weight, they seem to be very well structured so you do not bore easily while you are dieting.

The only criticism I have a part for the rude women at the meetings was the fact that the diet was very time consuming to start with, as you had to constantly flick through the points books to see what you were eating and their values. This became a lot easier after a week as you remember what the values are for each food.

Summary: So far it s working well with a consistant 1-2lb loss every week.

Sorry, but "only 5.50" for a weigh in - ughh! I'm still loving Tesco online for £1.50 a week and no waiting around or intimidation - just meal plans and loads of support - I reviewed it, if you're interested! : )
But I hope this works for you!

I like weight watchers, but I hated waiting for hours to get weighed. There were always too many people and I never spoke to the leader to get encouragement etc. I've just joined slimming world and am finding it a much more positive experience. :o)

It is good that they encourage members to exercise - so many diet plans don't bother with this important element.
