Advantages: Helps motivate you, gives you a plan to stick to
Disadvantages: Need to stick to it during the week!!
I joined weight watchers at the beginning of December last year so I have only been attending for a couple of months. I had never seriously thought about going, but after having my son I decided I needed a push to lose the weight I had put on. Along with a friend I decided to attend the classes in the village where I live.
* First Impressions
When you go to a meeting for the first time it really isn't as scary as you think (or I thought anyway). You queue up to be weighed and when you step on the scales nobody can see how much you weigh so it is just between you and the person weighing you. In the class I attend the first half an hour is for weigh ins and the second half an hour is a meeting where anything from different food options to peoples experiences is discussed.
* Payment options
The cheapest way to pay for Weight watchers is to buy a monthly pass which also entitles you to free access to the weight watchers sight. A monthly pass is around £17 and works out cheaper than the £5.50 per class.
* The plan
The weight watchers plan revolves around counting points and making sure you dont go over the amount of points you are entitled to each day. The amount of points you are allowed varys depending on your age, sex and activity level. Weight watcher products can be bought at the meetings and also in the shops and these state exactly how many points your eating.
The plan allows you to still have the food you enjoy, you can even have the odd takeaway. In my opinion its more about becoming aware of what you are eating and realising what is in and what could be healthier. I still enjoy takeaways and the odd bit of chocolate, Im just a lot more aware of what I can eat.
*Does it work?
In my opinion it certainly works. I didn't have a lot of weight to lose however I have already lost almost a stone which Im very proud of. Its good to go to the meetings as they motivate you to carry on. You get given goals of 5% and 10% of you body weight to lose and then your goal weight, this means you are always working towards something.
If you have weight to lose I would definatly give weight watchers a try. It may not be for you, but its definatly worth a go!!
Summary: Weight watchers is well worth a go if you are needing to shed a few pounds!!
