Advantages: Consistant weight loss

Disadvantages: Weight Watchers try to take too much money

I think its important to start by telling you that I am a diabetic and that I have always been sceptical about diets and companies that take your money to help you diet. However, my wife has been doing weight watchers and has sworn by it, so I reluctantly gave it a go. Weight Watchers Works! I am currently using the points based system, where you get a certain amount of points depending on how much you weigh, and over the last 4 weeks I have lost 5kg. I thought it would mean missing out on all the food that I love and feeling hungry all the time, but I can honestly say I have not really had to give up anything as everything can be pointed and I have not as yet felt hungry. I was worried with being diabetic, type 1 on insulin that this would mess up my blood sugars and while you do have to watch and measure you blood sugars more at first I have had no problems as of yet. My main problem with weight watchers is that they take money off you but I suppose they are a business, however, the fact that they always try to sell you there products is slightly annoying, but other than that I have really enjoyed these first 4 weeks.

UPDATE. As this one of my first reviews I really appreciated the comment to add a little more infor so here goes.

There seems to be this myth with weightwatchers that you have to give up all the foods that you normally eat, and that just is not the case. You can eat anything you want but everything is pointed. So if you eat chocolate all day that is going to be higher pointed so you will eat less. If I was to give you an average day, I start with cereal in a morning and coffee. Mid morning it is normally a piece of fruit. Lunch is either sandwiches or soup with yogurt, fruit, crisps. An afternoon snack might be a little treat of chocolate. And a normal evening meal, spag bol or even burgers. Seriously there is nothing off limits just watch the points.

The weight loss has been pretty consistant since I started, being on average 1kg per week, however now I have started down the gum again so with this combioned with weight watchers I hop to maybe lose a little bit more, while at the same time improve my muscle tone.

I was very worried about how my diabetes would react to the weightwatchers changes and if I would be able to keep the diet up but as of yet I have not had to change my diet at all.

Cost wise, and this is still a problem for me, having to pay to be healthier, I pay £17 per month on direct debit and this entitles me to go to class and make use of the online information and points tracker.

A comment made on this review, asked about attitudes to men at the class, and I can honestly say that I am in a minority, a minority of one! But to be honest it doesn't matter. You are not laughed at and I think that if more men could get over the apprehension that is attached to weightwatchers they could be happier and healthier.

Summary: Dont be afraid, take the plunge.

Welcome to Dooyoo :-) Would be great to know what foods you eat on your diet, whether you've lost all the weight more in the first few weeks and whether the weight loss has now slowed down, how being diabetic changes the diet (if at all) - i.e. did your wife have to measure things less than you? How much does it cost to go to Weight Watchers, is it friendly from a mans point of view - as I daresay there's lots of women there. Well done on the weight loss - how much do you want to lose - from your photo it doesn't seem like you need to lose much?! Snooty xx (Let me know if you update as I'd be happy to re-rate later).
