Advantages: Can stop animals becoming extinct., Good projects, going on to help raise money.

Disadvantages: man's ignorance a major contributer, A pity man chooses to harm animals and destroy their habitat.

The World Wildlife Fund Charity exists to help protect all Animals and sealife from the Dangers of extinction, from the threat of poachers Diseases and pollutions .
This the year 2001 is their 40th Anniversary.

One particular animal in danger of becoming extinct is the Giant Panda,it would be such a shame if this animal ceased to exist.
I was lucky enough to see one of these in Berlin's Zoo cuddling its Baby, which is an extremely rare occurance for a Panda to breed in captivity.
They are absolutely beautiful close up.I spent ages studying this Panda watching the way He ate and moved,I wanted to reach out and hug Him.
It upsets Me to hear that this lovely creature is hunted down and killed illegally for their fur.
The Pandas natural habitat is also under deep threat as the Bamboo has a life cycle where it Flowers and Dies periodically.
When this happens the Pandas have to constantly move on to other areas.
There are now only 1000 Giant Pandas left in the wild.
WWF's involvement is to help stop the slaughter of these Animals and help protect,re-establish and maintain their natural enviroment.
They are currently working on a three year survey to combat the above issue.

Sadly there are so many more endangered species killed to make Fur coats for the Rich although thankfully the demand for these in the uk is being discouraged.

Elephants are killed purely for their tusks,Ivory as we all know goes to make a variety of things including ornaments.

In South America, Vicuna cloth and shawls are made from Shatoosh, which comes from an endangered Tibetian Antelope.

Rhino Horns,Tiger Bone and Bear Bile are used to make Oriental Medicines.

Along with the sale of Whale meat,Whale Teeth,Elephant Leather Goods,Rhinoceros curios and stuffed Animals its no wonder these Animals are endangered species.

Personally I wouldnt touch any coat made of Animal Fur,or any souveniers made from
Animals.
I find it disgusting and such a waste of beautiful Animals.

The World Wildlife Fund has twenty seven National Organisations in ninety six countries.
Their aims are to protect endangered species from extinction, this also has to include the protection of their enviroment.

Man plays a large part in the destruction of forests and woodlands which have great effects on feeding and breeding grounds.
But how can the destruction be stopped?
The way I see it,as long as man continues to chop down forests and woodlands then we are sort of fighting a losing battle,
until real alternatives can be found.

Regarding pollution, well unfortunately that will not cease either.
Theres always going to be oil spillages, human waste and poisonous toxins being sent out to harm wildlife.
But I dont dismiss the good work charities like these are doing.I just find it sad that for each species they help, there are many thousands that are still at risk.

WWF run lots of campaigns which normally last for one to two years.
One such featured campaign is the souvenir alert, which aims to protect the slaughter of endangered species to cater for the souvenir hunter.
I fear that as long as people continue buying these items this will be hard to stop, its all down to mans greed and choosing to ignore the harm they are creating.

Then theres the WWF Oceans Recovery Campaign. With the threat to our sealife from pollution, over fishing, mineral extractions and climate changes, they say that only 1% of our sea and wildlife is adequately protected.

You can read on the website about the need for urgent action regarding the recent foot and mouth outbreak.Where in a new WWF report it highlights the need for a massive investment package to transform rural areas and help the countryside recover from recent heavy losses.

There is also a report that states that habitat destruction and pollution has left some of our uk r
ivers in a worse state than Eastern Europe.
WWF are calling for investment in freshwater care to meet the requirements of the EU water framework directive.

All this just goes to show that his charity covers a huge variety of projects from saving wildlife from extinction,to preserving sealife and even trying to stop destruction of an animals natural habitat.
I believe that the work the WWF do will always be an ongoing thing until major solutions can be found.

If you are interested in helping this worthwhile charity then how about joining their adopt an endangered animal scheme.
Just click on the pictures on the website to select an animal you would like to adopt.
Or how about taking part in the WWF big swim event 2001.Where you can raise money to help protect the marine mammals.Details can be found on the website.Or even just sending a donation however small,to ensure this worthwhile charity continues its excellant projects.
