Advantages: Cheaper photos , Good quality guaranteed
Disadvantages: None
**Updated 11.12.01** *This is the only place to have those Chrismas party photos developed. To my knowledge, the prices have not changed since my original op was placed.* It is a cheaper way of having your holiday snaps, wedding photos, and family photos processed in good quality, than taking them to Boots or other high street shops. They are usually returned within 7 days. You can pay for express service. This is at a cost of 45p (35mm only). If you want your photos the standard size this will cost you £1.55 for up to 27 exposures, or £2.30 for up to 40 exposures. Other sizes and prices are as follows: 27 exposures (30% bigger £1.95) 40 " ( " " £2.75) APS (3 formats) 27 exposures £3.99 APS (" " ) 40 " £4.99 The photos usually come with a gloss finish, but if you want matt then you will have to add 50p per film (35mm only). You can have 1 extra set of prints done at a cost of £1.55 per film for compact/30% bigger/100% bigger. For APS this cost would be £1.99 per film. On the envelope you send your film in, there is also the opportunity to buy films. These prices are as follows: York 35mm 200 speed £1.95 (24) £2.45 (36). you can buy packs as well. eg 3 for 2 £3.90 (24) £4.90 (36)., or 5 pack £5.00 (24) £6.00 (36). Kodak films are also sold. 24 £3.49 35mm Kodak Ultra 36 £4.49 35mm " " 25 £4.99 APS Kodak Advantix 40 £5.99 " " " York Lab process all makes of colour full frame, APS, and 110 films. They also process films from Single Use cameras. All you have to do is send them off with the correct value of cheque. When you send the films in and receive your photos, you get back address labels specially coded with your own account number for future use. To date, we have had no bad returns or lost films using York Labs.

- 30/10/02 I've used Yorks Excel development labs since 1994, and York Photo Labs before as far back as I remember! Until the last couple of years I found them first rate for service and quality. Then things started going wrong. To be fair it 's probably not their fault - the last film in a series I'd been taking throughout 2000 of a walk from the source of the Thames to Greenwich was returned to me undeveloped. It looked like it had been run over by a bus! Then three boxes of developed prints arrived on my doormat soaking wet, luckily the sturdy boxes protected most of them. Lately the service seems to be taking longer and longer. Standard service took two weeks so I paid the extra for express and it still took ten or eleven days. It's almost enough to make me take them to Boots, however the quality is still excellent so maybe I won't! |
