Sony VTXD800U ... owned this freeview box now for over 2 years. Whilst not the smallest freeview box its 48mmx215mmx240mm, and comes with a stand to allow you to place in a vertical position, but looks fine sat ontop of the DVD player. Allow a good couple of inch s at the back for the scart sockets. It has 2 scart sockets on the back (TV & VCR/DVD) and an tv ariel socket, a power on/off button and channnel +/- button on the front. The remote control (same colour as the box) has the usual buttons, including a back button for easy switch to the previous viewed channel, favorites button if you want to save a list of the channels you most watch. a tv/radio button, guide and infor... Humax Foxsat -HDR ... was a bit nervous about buying this after lengthy discussions with John Lewis staff about the returns policy. It comes down to the fact that it contains a hard drive, making it recordable media, and their legal obligations are different. In real terms it means if I did return it they d have more work to do to ensure that the device was still fit for sale and they d want me to bear that cost. All I actually wanted was a PVR, and I wasn t too bothered whether it was satellite or terrestrial. However I didn t want to buy something only to have to throw it out and get something HD soon after, and since terrestrial Freeview isn t offering me HD I had to go with satellite... Virgin V +Box ... v+ box is virgin s answer to the sky + box. It gives the ability to record programmes, rewind and pause live tv. The V+ box is better than the Sky+ box in that it has two tuners rather than the one that the sky + box has, you are able to record two programmes at once whilst watching another, on sky+ you can one record one and watch one. The v+ also has the capabilites to store 80 hours of content, and shows you how many hours you have left to record, whereas the sky+ box can only record 40 hours and show it in a percentage so you are uncertain how much time you have left to record.
