“ Philips DSR200 - Satellite TV receiver „
I bought this set top box a few years ago - I just wanted something small that didn't take up a lot of room. Although it was slightly more expensive than some other basic boxes at the time, I bought it because I wanted a trusted brand - I assumed that Philips were very reliable (although I'd never bought anything by them before)
The box is quite small, a lot smaller than a lot of other set top boxes. The good thing about the small size is that it can fit anywhere, and doesn't take up a lot of room on a table or in a TV cabinet. It comes with a remote control which is quite small and well, but easy to use.
The box is pretty easy to plug in, but you might need an extra scart lead depending on the type of TV you have, and the other things you have (like a DVD/video/bluray etc). The set-up and install are really easy, the wizard guides you through everything so you don't really need the instruction booklet. However, the instruction booklet can be really helpful later on, particularly if you have problems because it gives you solutions to specific problems (for example, image fuzziness on a particular channel)
The Philips set top box did enhance the picture quality on my TV which I was quite surprised about, and wasn't really expecting. The image was much clear, had better colours, and was all together much much better
The menus are easy to navigate, and there is an electronic programme guide, but sadly it only shows the next two programmes, unlike other set-top boxes which seem to show the next programmes for the following week
Although there are loads of good points to this box, after a while (maybe about three years?) it stopped working - the picture went fuzzy and pixelated, the speech didn't match up with the image, and often the screen went black and wouldn't turn on again. It was also a pain switching it on and off as I had to keep switching between the TV/AV setting, and all the other modes of the TV.
I may not be a techie genius, but after these problems I assumed it was the TV that was the fault, not the box, so I bought a new TV. However, these problems persevered, and after having a technician round, I was told it was the box
So overall, it is a good, simple, and easy to use set top box which is quite good value, but it did stop working after a few years, and was fairly unreliable
