Advantages: Cheap, Easy to use, Attractive Design, Good Performance
Disadvantages: Doesn't come with scart, occasional picture and sound distortion.
After deciding that just having 5 channels wouldn't do, I realised that i needed to invest in a freeview box. I bought the Philips DTR210 set top box from my local Tesco store for £24.99
The set top box came with an adapter, remote and instructions. There was no scart lead included, but like most people these days we have a drawer full of such things, so it wasn't too much of a problem.
Setting the box up was very simple. A scart lead from the television to one of the boxes two scart slots, plug an aerial into the back as well as the adapter, switch the thing on and away we go.
The installation pretty much took care of itself. It took about 5 minutes to find all the channels. Such channels included BBC 3, E4, More4, Dave, TMF and UKTV History. As well as the normal terrestrial channels and several +1 channels, in case you miss a show and want to catch it an hour later.
The remote has all the functions you'd expect, and batteries are included. In terms of design, the box is quite attractive. Its black with quite a large Philips logo on top. It's also reasonably small, around 25cm in width and 3cm high so it can be hidden away if need be.
As far as performance goes, this box has worked quite well. Occasionally you will get some distortion of colour or sound, but nothing too dramatic.
I would definitely recommend this box. It's a great alternative to paying for a sky or virgin subscription is you only want a bit more choice when it comes to your TV viewing.
Summary: Freeview Set Top Box.
