We have been Virgin customers for quite a while now with TV, broadband and phone products bundled with them however every so often I go through the charade of threatening to leave so that we can either get the package cost reduced or to get some other deal from them, it helps that there are always packages from BT or Sky to quote at them and it never fails.

On the most recent phone call a couple of months ago they offered us a free upgrade to a new set top box with Tivo as well as a £15 reduction on our monthly bill which did come with a one year tie in but that was no real issue as we had no real intention of leaving because of all the hassle. The design of the Tivo box is a bit more sleek and stylish than the box it replaced however it is a bit bigger as well.

Tivo allows you to store your programmes on the systems hard drive so that you can watch them at your leisure and with 1 terabyte of memory you can store a huge amount of material on it, I can see this comming in very useful as my little one starts to watch TV and has her favourite programmes that she wants to watch over and over again.

The instructions were nice and easy to follow with regards to set up and operation, the remote does have a lot of buttons and while it is not what I would call intuitive once you have set it to record a couple of times then it is nice and easy. The series link option is really useful as you do not have to constantly remember to record something. In the two months that we have been using it there has never been a problem with it failing to record anything. You can also access I player and youtube through the box

Overall we are happy with this new box, it can be a little slow at times but that is not a major issue I guess as long as you have not left things to the last minute. It does not get a massive amount of use from us mainly because we do not watch a huge amount of TV but it is nice to have it available.
