Set top box for the modern family
Member Name: MattJames
Advantages: Duo recordings, easy to use, large harddrive
Disadvantages: Quite large in form, could overheat.
This set top box comes built in with freeview, offering around 50 television channels and many radio stations.
The box itself is quite large by some standards, but can easily fit on top or on a shelf. However, it has big ventilation on the top of it, suggesting it needs to dispell a lot of hot air, so it is best not to trap that warm air inside of it.
The hard drive is large, offering you around 120 hours of recording, however, as with most hard drives, the more full it gets, the slower it gets. This can be a pain when you are trying to set something taping quickly. This is easily remedied by deleting things when you're box is getting full, but for such a device, it's a bit of an unneccessary hassle. It could be argued that you'll have to delete it anyway in the long run.
Another issue is when you series link a programme, if the programme is moved from its normal timeslot, the box does not detect this, and so seems to record more by the time than by the programme, as newer boxes do. This can be annoying but I suppose the fault lies more with the timings people!
A bonus this box offers is you can actually record two things at once! Another feature is while you're recording a programme, you can watch another at the same time, which is very handy for a big family with different tastes.
Overall, this set top box is actually quite good, so long as you give the harddrive space to breathe.
Summary: Worth a look!
