I have owned an Elna 1010 sewing machine for a couple of years. I've used it for everything - dress & clothes making and taking-in (heavy use for am-dram), and general stitching and repairs. Although this is the baby of the Elna range, it has a very solid feel, and has been very reliable (self-oiling), with only light cleaning required. I used it to re-stitch the seam of a heavy (old) canvas tent, a task with which it coped admirably, without any odd noises or complaints. Elna have a very good reputation (the brand was recommended to me by my dry-cleaner), and this machine certainly enhances that reputation with me. It is speedy, and, for fiddly tasks, easy to use (clear controls, 'ergonomic' design). It's not the cheapest machine available, but by far not the most expensive, and for basic sewing (it can do 10 stitch-patterns & buttonholes) it is an impressive little machine, with a power which belies its appearance.
