      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Well established inexpensive Avon aftershave - woody and powdery

      ---Why I Bought This---

Having the Avon catalogue regularly I am able to brouse all their products. As we live out in the country I usually rely on Avon and Tesco for most of our cosmetics and toiletries so this is why I keep my husband supplied with Black Suede.

      ---The Brand---

Avon is a long established direct selling network which used to sell just door-to-door but you can order directly from their website these days if you do not have a local representative handy.

      ---The Product---

'Black Suede is a Oriental fragrance for men.
It was launched in 1980. The fragrance features nutmeg, amber, musk, oakmoss, cloves and woody notes.
Comes in black box and is a clear bottle with a black cap - the new revised bottle is more angular than the older version in the image above.
      75 mls.
Comes in a spray or splash bottle.

      ---Cost---

£11 full price for spray or splash - but often on offer.
Also comes in the same fragrance as a roll-on and body spray. I have also bought a shower gel but it does not seem to be on sale at present.

      ---My Opinion---

This aftershave seems to be the only long running fragrance from Avon as they are continualy bring out and discontinuing new aromas.
This must be a really good seller to have stood the test of time for over 30 years.
Not only do I get this regularly for my husband, but I have friends who also buy this for relatives and friends. I always buy a supply at Christmas as part of husband's gifts - and it is usually more on offer then with the deoderants and sprays thrown in.
It is many years now since we started buying this and as husband is happy with it (and unadventurous) we have stuck with it.
The official sites call it woody, which I suppose it is - it also has a powdery quality and lasts quite a while - although when put on it is not too overpowering - possibly because we buy the splash bottles rather than the sprays - so not too much is used.
My husband has on occasion also had sensitive skn on his face but has never had any problems using this aftershave.
I keep buying this fragrance now as I know my husband will use it - and I have not bothered to try out all the other fragrances that Avon make.
Regarding suitability, I would say this is definitely more for the more mature to middle aged man. Personally I could not see my sons using this and would be more inclined to buy it more for uncles and grandfathers rather than brothers or sons - but each to their own I suppose.
This is an inoffensive fragrance but might be a little sweet and powdery for some.
If undecided your Avon representative can get you a sample to try - or of course you have a money-back guarantee if you do not like it once purchased.

      ---Unisex?---

I have read online of some women using this - so I did try it - and it lasted well - but I hated it - so not for me. Though I often do like male deodorants.

      ---Star Rating---

4 stars - may not suit the younger generation.

      ---Would I Recommend?---

      Yes.
