“ Brand: Biotherm / Type: Aftershave Lotion „
I got a bottle of Biotherm aquatic lotion in a Biotherm men's gift set about a year ago but I was initially reluctant to use it as it is scented and as I suffer quite badly from razor burn I would this would irritate it more. However I find that even though it is a scented after shave lotion it is actually quite soothing plus it smells amazing.
Aquatic lotion comes in a 100ml bottle and can be bought for around £20 to £24. Surprisingly given that it comes from Biotherm who are a premium skin care company the bottle is cheap looking and plastic as opposed to being glass like the majority of aftershaves.
It is called a lotion but in fact it is actually more of a gel. To use you just put some in your hands and rub it in to your freshly shaved skin as you would do with any other aftershave lotion. Now I love aftershave but I normally only buy sprays and spray it on my clothes and body skin as I find that aftershave applied directly to my skin after shaving not only hurts like hell but it also irritates it and causes it to become inflamed and sore.
This aftershave lotion is actually designed to soothe the skin after shaving and although it did sting a tiny bit on contact with my skin it was only a little bit and after that it calmed my skin right down. It has an immediate cooling effect which if you suffer from razor burn you will know just how much of a relief putting something cooling on the skin is. It also really softened my skin as well and left it looking matte and less red.
The smell is amazing but it is extremely subtle. It has a really fresh smell to it and would be perfect for those men who don't like strong aftershaves. I personally like a stronger smell and would actually have liked this more if it had been stronger or if there was something else I could apply with the same smell to layer it and make it stronger but it was good for daytime wear.
Overall I liked this aftershave lotion and thought it was a lot better than I had imagined it was going to be. Ultimately though I doubt I would buy it again as I already have products designed for razor burn and although the smell was great it just wasn't strong enough for me personally.
I am a big fan of Biotherm products and have an ever-growing collection from the Biotherm Homme range. I have sensistive skin and if I don't use an after-shave lotion I find my skin tightens and I get dry patches on my face. Protecting skin post-shave is essential - particularly in the winter months when it is exposed to the cold weather. The gel is designed for 'Normal' skin types, but I find it equally suitable for oily skin. My skin is oily, but after shaving it is often left dry, so really I wouldn't let this put you off regardless of your skin type.
The Biotherm Homme Aquatic After Shave Lotion comes in a light blue 200ml bottle with typical Biotherm branding in white text. The look is quite smart and finished off with a grey coloured cap. The 200ml bottle is priced at just above £30 and so it certainly isn't a cheap and cheerful after shave lotion. I am happy to pay more for Biotherm products as I usually find them to be worthwhile.
After shaving I dispense a small amount of the gel onto my hand and then gently work it in to my skin. I were actually very surprised initially as to how quickly the gel was absorbed by my skin. I apply the lotion to the areas that I shave daily - my lower face and neck. The gel formula is rich in minerals and the thermal spring water quickly relieves and soothes the skin after shaving. The cooling sensation is a much welcome respite against razor burn and my skin does look healthier than it did before using this product. My skin is left feeling softer and hydrated.
When compared to other after shave lotions and balms I would definately say the Biotherm Homme Aquatic After Shave Lotion compares favourably. The stumbling block for most Biotherm products, however, is the price. Costing around £32-£35 online I would definately advise you shop around and look for a bargain. If it wasn't for the price then this would be a no-brainer. Personally I find myself shaving and using this product every day and I find the bottle lasts for a number of months. I think it is definately worth considering, and I wouldn't say I use it sparingly I get a lot of use from it and the results are very positive.
