“ Brand: Cussons Imperial Leather / and Shaveing Gel in one / Type: Shave Gel / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
Occasionally, when I'm shopping in discount stores such as Home Bargains or Wilkinsons, I will spot a real bargain. These Imperial Leather Foamburst shower and shave gels are occasionally on offer in such stores, costing a fraction of the RRP which is £3.15 for 200ml. In theory, the RRP is justified by the fact that it's a dual-use product, but in my opinion, unless you religiously shave every single day, as a shower gel it's a bit of a luxury.
The foam comes in a variety of fragrances, with my favourite being the Japanese Spa. It always makes me smile when I see the "Limited Edition" plastered on the packaging, despite the fact it's been a "limited edition" for several years! The foam can be used as a shower gel, but due to its thick foamy consistency, also doubles up as a shaving gel.
The packaging for this product is similar to that of shaving gels, being in a can with a nozzle dispenser. When dispensed, the foam is clear, but quickly lathers up and turns into the most luxurious creamy white foam. This makes my skin feel very pampered, and also gives a great moisture boost to my skin in the shower. One tip however is that you only need to start with a tiny bit of the foam, as a little goes a long way. The first time I used it I dispensed far too much and pretty much covered my entire body with one squirt of the foam.
As a shaving gel, it isn't dissimilar to other shaving gels I've used in consistency, and provides a nice foamy base to protect your legs from nicks and cuts, whilst providing a bit of extra moisturisation. Admittedly, it isn't quite as thick as some shaving gels, but this avoids the razor getting clogged up and doesn't seem to impact on the quality of the shave. I always use body lotion after showering, but I do notice my skin feels really hydrated after using this in the shower, and my legs don't feel overly dry even after shaving.
In terms of the fragrance, this will obviously depend on which one you choose, but the Japanese Spa one I like to use is very girly and flowery, and fills the bathroom when I use it. This makes me feel great in the mornings as it's really uplifting, but I can't say I notice the fragrance lingering on my skin after use. Like I've said, I apply body lotion after showering anyway so it makes no difference to me how long the shower gel lingers for.
This product is very luxurious, although a bit expensive at full price. When bought at a discount, however, it's a lovely pampering experience, and also comes in handy if going away for the weekend as it avoids the need to take a separate shower gel and shaving gel. I think using it as a dual-use product means you get better value for money, although these days I'm not shaving as often as I used to, due to pregnancy making it difficult to reach anywhere except under my arms! It still provides a bit of luxury in the shower, and is one I always keep an eye out for in discount stores as I love a good bargain.

I love this product. This is the first Imperial lather product I've used and it's really impressed me. This is a bathroom essential for any woman. Its dual purpose which means it can be used as a shower gel whilst being used as shaving foam too. This makes it incredibly useful, as it's a 2 for 1. Meaning less bathroom container's cluttering up your bathroom. I also love that aspect of it as it's great for taking away on holiday too, as its dual purpose its one item in your luggage, with two purposes, and also less weight, so you can pack more!
The product itself smells delicious, and I know there's different scent's out there, if you didn't agree with this one, the soap itself is a great cleaner, and as its dual purpose is shaving foam, it means that it's very sensitive, but very very moisturizing as well, so you leave the shower/bath feeling refreshed, soft and clean! The Foam itself is very foamy, sounds silly but what I mean is that its actual foam, and you don't need to use a lot of it to get a lot of foam out, saving the mixture and therefore saving you money as you're getting a lot of washes out of one bottle!
The only disappointment with this product is that the design on the bottle means that it doesn't have a lid, or a switch to "lock" it so it can't spray, this is really disappointing as you have to be so much more careful when taking away on holidays. But that's the only complaint. I think that this product is absolutely amazing, its beautifully soft, and luxurious whilst doing two jobs in one. Enjoy!
I'm not usually a fan of Imperial Leather products as I've never really liked the smell of them and they tend to be products that my older mum and dad buy, but I was quite surprised by this youthful and delicious looking gel, it appeared to be a lot different from Imperial Leathers' usual products.
I think the Foamburst Shower and Shave gel is a very clever idea, I love the fact that I can wash with it as well as do my shaving. It saved me some money as I didn't have to buy my Shower gel and Shaving cream seperately, Imperial Leather certainly didn't skimp on quality with this one either. The gel is rich in smell and in texture, the flavour is Whipped Cocoa Butter and Vanilla which I found to be very nourishing on my skin and it left a lovely lingering scent on me after my shower - which I love in a product.
The gel itself lathered so well, it was really foamy and I only had to squirt a small amount to have enough to wash with, I also only needed a minimal amount to shave with as it spread fantastically over my body. As a result it lasted me a long time so I got my moneys worth. The can does say that it should last you 40+ washed, which I was sceptical about, but it really does.
This gel left my skin feeling baby soft and very nourished, I had no cuts from shaving with it either so it was definetely an all-rounder for me. As an added bonuse the can is rust proof so it won't deteriorate in your shower!
A 250ml can is normally £2.99 in most stores but I have seen it in some bargain stores too cheaper, so have a look out for it!
~From gel to foam as quick as a flash!~
This little product is something I have used in the past as a gentle skin care item to use along side disposable razors from time to time. In use I found that it worked well and provided an array of nice soft textured bubbly foam that made using a disposable razor easier than with water alone. The product is made by Cussons which are a well known and respected brand and as soon as I saw the product on the shelves and read the instructions on the can I wanted to give this a try as it looked like a product that could be rather helpful.
This product is one that quickly transforms from being a gel into a foam making it very easy to apply and use and I found that there was no mess when using this as it was easy to direct the foaming gel onto my hand then apply it where needed. Cussons say that there are not many shower products that you can also use to shave with that can leave your skin feeling as soft as this one does and having used the product I feel that they have said almost what I was thinking when I used this for the first time, as you really can use this as a multi purpose shower and shave item that leaves you with soft feeling cleaned smooth skin.
~Ease of use~
Having used the shave gel for the first time I was quite impressed with how easily the gel product became a soft attractively scented foam in a very short space of time. The pack that the foaming gel comes in is easy to handle with it being well formed and tall yet not overly so. I found that the product canister could easily be stood on a shelf in the shower and left there to use when needed with no problems at all. If you do knock the product over it won't burst open or break as I did accidently knock my can over once when using it to apply some of the foam, yet when I checked everything was fine with no breaks or dents at all.
The version of the product that I tried was a vanilla and cocoa based product that had a very nice warming and soothing scent to it that was neither too strong or too weak for my liking. I found that the effects of the soft foam produced were good as I was able to use the product along with a disposable razor to get a smooth clean finish that I was pleased with and I found that a little of the product went a long way when in use. The product is easy to apply to the skin with it being both soft and gentle and I noticed no irritation or redness of the skin after use which was pleasing to see.
I found the way that the light transparent gel within the can quickly becomes a soft textured foam in an instant to be very interesting to see and once a small amount of gel had turned into a much larger amount of creamy vanilla scented foam it went a long way when applied to the skin. I liked the feel of the foam as well as the scent it gave off and found that it was easy to glide a razor over the skin where needed when using one along with this product. The only downside to this product is that as the soft foam is so inviting I often ended up using a little more as I found it was very nice when used as a wash product as well as a shave product.
~The product range~
At the time I made my purchase there were a number of other options I could have picked, although as it turned out I was more than happy with the choice I made in picking the vanilla scented version of the product. I feel the the addition of cocoa butter in the product I used helped ensure my skin felt soft and smooth after using this which was something I liked. The other varieties that you can buy also looked nice and those that are still available to buy are as follows:
Ocean Spa ~ a refreshing blend of sea kelp and birch bark presented in a fresh sea blue can
Sunrise ~ a citrusy floral mix of lemon balm, mandarin and ylang ylang packed in a lemon coloured can
Moisture Plus ~ a blend of jojoba and passionflower presented in a pale lilac can
Wake Up ~ uses green tea and cucumber and comes in a light green can that reflects that
Live Wire ~ which is presented in a dark green can and contains black mint
~Price and rating~
When I bought my can of the product I was lucky enough to be able to purchase it for £1.49 and although I have seen it on sale for as much as £1.99 in some stores I don't feel that is expensive. The range of scents within the range is varied with their being something to suit many tastes in terms of the fragrances and types of foaming gel available and I am looking forwards to trying out the Sunrise variety as the mix of lemon balm, mandarin and ylang ylang sound wonderful. When I used this product I liked the way it performed and found it was very easy to use with no ill effects caused to my skin afterwards and as such my rating for it is 4 stars.
I have always been a fan of foam burst products and i think that this is mostly due to my child like amazement of watching a little blob of liquid turn into a great big lather of bubbles which in essence is exactly what this product does.
The product does not exactly jump off the shelves in the supermarket but its classic design means that it looks fine propped up in your shower, not something you need to hide dependant upon who might be coming over!
The bottle does manage to stay stood up and up to press unlike many shower gels it doesn't slide around or jump off the shower shelves!
The shower gel is great, it smells amazing and you keep the lovely soapy clean smell and feeling all day whilst the hints of cocoa and vanilla also stay around for a good few hours.
Shaving wise it does all it needs to, the lather is good and it keep your skin nice and moisturised afterwards.
I also tend to have quite sensitive skin and its been absolutely fine so an extra thumbs up from me.
I bought my bottle for £2.15 which I think is fairly standard and to say that you get shower gel and shaving foam in one product its actually quite a good deal.
Finally, the bottle advertises that there is over 40 washes in a can, which will of course be subjective but I have had my bottle for two weeks now (16 - 17 showers!) and its still going strong!
I first came across this shower and shave gel in my mother in laws bathroom whilst staying in her caravan last summer. I was intrigued by its slimline bottle and it looked like it could be a brilliant duo, so the next time I had a shower I tried a little squirt, this is what I thought.
The packaging for this shower and shave gel is wonderful, the bottle is shaped so you can get a good grip even when your hands are soapy or the bottle is wet. It is also nice and easy to store.
The lovely soft cream colour makes you immediately think it is a luxurious product, and it just makes you want to use it.
To use it you just press the top, there is no lid to remove which is an added bonus. A small amount of transparent gel is dispensed, it doesn't look very much but once you rub this five pence sized blob on to wet skin it transforms into a heap of creamy lather. You would probably only need about six blobs for an entire body, it just expands into a gorgeous cream.
The smell is amazing it is cocoa butter and vanilla, it is not over powering just totally delicious and the fragrance stays on for quite a while afterwards.
So top marks for the shower gel part of the product but there were a few minor problems with the shaving gel department.
First of all the foam was a bit too thick for my liking, I had to keep rinsing the blade after a few centimeters as it was covered in cream, it was also hard to keep track of where I had shaved and where I hadn't as there was lather everywhere. Apart from that it was good gel, it didn't leave my skin dry and my legs felt velvety smooth.
I think the Foamburst name is particularly suited as the gel really does 'burst' into foam. I also think that the shower gel part of the product is absolutely perfect and I am now addicted to the range. I do however use a different shaving gel but that is just me being fussy.
I pay around £2.50 for a 200ml bottle at Boots this may be a little more expensive than other shower gels, but the bottle says that there are 40 washes in each can and I would totally agree with that, a little goes a long long way. So In my opinion it overs excellent value for money, even more so if you are going to use it as a shaving gel.
