      • "Not for steel beards"

Having a beard of steel, I get through shaving products like they were tissue. I've tried them all, and usually come first to reviews in places like dooyoo to guide me. In the end, I find that most reviews of these products are written by men who have slight or thin beards. To these guys, shaving with the grain, using any variety of products, would provide a clean crisp shave. To men like me, there is nothing but sore faces and mini stubble to contend with. So here's my take on the entire Gillette range, coming from the perspective of a Steel Bearded Gent. Firstly, the Razor. Its no surprise that the Mach 3 Turbo is the current choice of many. I've tried the Wilkenson Sword Diamond series, and must admit M3 Turbo is the best thus far. So the post shave experience. This is where the Gillette After Shave Balm/Gels really show their class. Or lack of it. So any light bearded soul would find great pleasure in these After Shave Treatments. But for someone who has just gone through some pain barriers going against the grain to actually get any semblance of a shave, these products fail on three counts: 1) They offer little instant soothing. They are cool by virtue of temperature and minor ingredients, but the soreness is not really alleviated. 2) They really do have a cheap scent to them. Its not something that mixes well with any quality fragrances/eau de toillettes. 3) They are definitely not doing your skin any better than a tub of vaseline would. It is for these reasons, that I have given a thumbs down to the Gillette After Shave Balms/Gels. If you have a beard of steel, give these a pass. Good luck gents.

I recently purchased a can of Gillette Series Shaving Gel. I know this is mainly thought of as a men's shaving gel, but I thought I would try it! I paid £1.45 for a 200ml/195g of this gel, the fragrance is 'Wild Rain'. It comes in a green can with a protective lid on it to prevent any excess gel escaping. The gel itself looks like a white foam. It smells wonderful and refreshing, and leaves your skin feeling soft and gentle. It is aloe enriched and protects sensitive skin. It also gives you a more closer, smoother shave. I recommend this gel for men and women alike, and you don't need a lot. A little squirt goes a long way! Prices may vary from shop to shop.

          Disadvantages

This is more than just an after shave gel. It's a skin moisturizer and conditioner. I only apply a few drops of this to the tips of my fingers and then rub it into my face and neck and my skin immediately feels revitalized. There is no burning sensation as with some other after-shaving lotions. Instead, your skin is left feeling cool and refreshed. Recently, Gillette has begun adding Vitamin E to this product and I think that this ingredient makes my skin feel even smoother. This aftershave has a typical "aftershave loitiony" smell to it, but it is not nearly as strong as other aftershaves like an old spice. It wears off pretty quickly so if you want to put on a cologne afterwards, don't worry about the two scents mixing or the aftershave overpowering your cologne. The smell of the aftershave generally dissipates after 5 or 10 minutes.

Remember those great adverts, with the cheesy line, "Gillette....the best a man can get!" This product IS...I'm not joking! It's sort of a moisturiser and deoderant all in one. The smell is really great and quite subtle unlike other fragrances which bully their way into your nose. The bottle is quite petite and so won't demand too much shelf space plus the gel is really cooling, and you'll really appreciate this on a hot afternoon. Forget ice, a good smearing of this'll do the trick! Great for weddings but I wouldn't recommend it for intensive stuff like exercising because it doesn't tend to keep the sweat in very long. Otherwise, great product and a great, great smell.

Gillette have triumphed again, i like to use aftershave to refresh my skin after shaving, and gillette balm is brilliant. Its not too expensive, smells great and leaves your skin refreshed not sticky and stinging like many other products. And with gillette, you can get the gel or foam to match also, not to mention the deodorant or body spray. Revitalising and lasts for ages so great value for money. It can be bought in most high street stores or pharmacies.
