“ Brand: Gillette / Type: Aftershave Balm / What it does: Hydrates, regenerates, Soothes, „
I have sensitive skin, and sometimes shaving can cause my skin to react in a bad wash, which includes soreness, dryness and rashes which annoys me to no end. Itching for hours is not my idea of a good shave, so many things I have used are no longer allowed near my skin.
When I get a general shaving rash, I try most things I can find to sooth the itch and irritation, but not many products that you can get in stores are helpful and it can get costly getting things on prescription. I once saw that my partner had some Gillette Fusion After Shave Hydrasoothe Balm. This was just sitting in the bathroom and the itch was driving me to insanity, so anything was worth a try at that point.
I know it is meant to be for mens faces after shaving, but hey it's still skin right? Needed for the same sort of job! So I opened the can up, and dispensed a load into my hand. I then smoothed it over my legs and the relief was pretty much instant. The itching was gone, the skin felt cool and the rash started to subside after a short while. My skin felt better to the touch as well, which was definatley a plus!
I didn't actually expect this to work as well as it did, but I was very impressed with what it did, and I didn't even need to add any extra after the first application to keep it working. The balm itself is a nice, thick texture and is silky smooth on the skin. It has a slightly masculine scent to it, which some what reminds me of mens body spray, but on a more subtle level. The smell does linger on the skin, but it is not very strong so this didn't really bother me at all.
Any time I get a rash from shaving or a shaving product now, I use this straight away as it really does the job and I have found nothing else that you can buy in stores that works the same or better. The balm comes in a bright orange can, which has the Gillette Fusion logo on it, and is usually found with the shaving gels and razors in stores. My partner buys his (and now mine lol) from Boots, and it costs him £4 a can, which I think is a brilliant price as it lasts around 2 - 3 months even with the both of us using it.
You can also buy this balm in Superdrug and some supermarkets, but the price will differ depending on where you buy it. Nearer to Christmas you can get this as part of a gift set with shaving gel and/or razors and this makes it a brilliant bargain to buy.
I give this after shave balm a 5 out of 5 stars, and I totally recommend it to anyone, whether you have sensitive skin or not.
I bought this after shave to use as sometimes after I shave, I get an itchy face. I don't know if I have sensitive skin or what, but I have gotten rashes in the past from shaving and wanted something to cool my face down and soothe it.
The bottle itself is in an attractive shade of orange, and it certainly stands out against the other products I own in the bathroom. It has a plastic top that you take off and when I sprayed some onto my hand, it didn't smell of anything, it has a netural smell.
When I first used it, I had slightly cut my face from shaving and when I applied it, it was painful. It was the same feeling when you apply TCP to a cut. It really hurts.
The next time I used it I made sure I applied it to no open cuts. Now it says it's supposed to soothe the skin, but I found it did for the first ten minutes or so, but then the irritation started to kick in. It made my face itch, so I had to wash it off.
It might just be my skin chemistry that made it irritate, and it could work for you without problems, but with so many after shaves on the market I personally would stay clear of this one.
