Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel Radiant Apricot
Advantages: Small sized canister, easy to use, works well.
Disadvantages: It's a bit overpriced in some places.
I first came across the Gillette Satin Care Radiant Apricot Shaving Gel at the start of the year when I was buying a few toiletries and cosmetics for a week-long holiday. As we had a sort of limited luggage allowance, I was aware of buying large, bulky bottles and canisters of lotions and toiletries and the small travel-sized canister of the Gillette shaving gel stood out to me whilst I was browsing in a local (independent) grocery store. I paid only around 90 pence for the small sized (75ml) canister at the time, but I have seen a larger version of the same product available to buy in some drugstores such as Bodycare and Superdrug.
The packaging is similar to most other shaving gel products that I buy on a regular basis, and comprises of a metal canister with a plastic lid on top. When the lid is pulled off, there is a large circular plastic nozzle underneath, which can be pressed down to dispense the shaving gel. The colours of the product's packaging are all shades of orange, peach and cream, so it matches the description of the product perfectly and I thought the overall look of the product was quite appealing.
When it came to using the Gillette Radiant Apricot Shaving gel, I found that the product dispensed very easily from the canister and I didn't need to apply too much pressure to the plastic nozzle to squirt the gel from the can into my hand. The gel's appearance looks to be quite thick as you would expect with a product like this one, and the gel is an attractive orange colour.
The 'Radiant Apricot' fragrance is quite evident whilst I am using this product and particularly when I am lathering up the gel on my legs. I think that the scent is pleasant enough, but I found it to be quite strong and very sweet and I'm not altogether sure that I would like the scent to hang around for any significant period of time after I've used the product. No need to worry though because the fragrance tends to die down after my legs have been rinsed off, and it disappears altogether a short time later.
When the gel is applied to wet skin, it lathers into a thick luxurious foam very easily which is exactly what I would expect - and hope - it to do. This thick foam can then be used with a razor to provide a protective barrier against your skin and help to prevent nicks and cuts from your razor. I found that it did this very well, and I have never cut or nicked my skin when using the product to shave, which is not something I can say of every brand of shaving gel that I have used in the past!
I found that the Gillette Radiant Apricot Shaving gel was a product of a fairly high quality, given the lack of nicks and cuts whilst using it, in addition to the rather effective moisturising qualities that I felt the product had. I find that shaving my legs can often leave the skin feeling tight and rather dry. It was a pleasant surprise then to realise that this was not a side-effect of using the Gillette Radiant Apricot product, and in actual fact I could have probably skipped my usual 'body moisturising' ritual.
I was pleased to note that the product didn't react with my sensitive skin, nor did it aggravate the eczema that I suffer from at times, which surprised me slightly given the strong highly perfumed scent of the shaving gel.
In summary, I felt that the Gillette Radiant Apricot Shaving Gel was a product of a fairly high quality and I thought that it worked well at providing a protective barrier to protect the skin against nicks and cuts whilst shaving. I also thought that it worked well at attempting to counteract the harsh effects that shaving can have on my sensitive skin. To be honest, I felt it was on a par with most other shaving products that I buy regularly, but this isn't necessarily a negative point, and I have purchased the smaller sized canister of the product several more times throughout this year as it's small, compact size is ideal for storing in my small bathroom cabinet or taking with me on holidays and trips.
The Gillette Satin Care Radiant Apricot Shaving gel can be purchased from good drugstores such as branches of Boots, where the larger sized canister of the product (200ml) will cost £3.25. I have to confess that this price seems slightly excessive to me, and I'm not sure that it is worth that much! There is a website for Boots which can be found at www.boots.com and you can purchase the item online here.
Summary: I'd buy it again but wouldn't pay full price for the large sized canister!
