“ Brand: Gillette / Creams / Type: Shave Gel / What it does: Smoothes, „
To be honest I thought I would continue writing about this kind of range of products while the level is higher at the moment. Often I don't think about what I write, but I know i've not written about this range of products much in the past and it is a range that I use quite often. I am not all that fussy about what Gel I use to get rid of my Furry bits, and often I will just reach for Hubby's stuff as I like the scent of that as well, but I picked up a tin of this in savers a while back and it was a good price so I got it. Since this is a brand named product then I would guess that this normally costs in excess of £2.60 judging by the other similar products in this kind of range. Savers was selling it for £1.40 so I judged that to be a good price anyway. This comes in a 195g tin and looks like the Dooyoo picture which is a light Lilac coloured tin. I don't think the lid should be white as it kind of stands out that bit and sire if it was Lilac then it would look that bit better. There is a nice little picture of some Berries on the front as well. All looks ok. I prefer using Gel to Foam and although the Gel turns to Foam anyway it is just a whole different consistency. When you squirt this out it comes out quite quick. A little of this goes a long way and it lathers onto your skin easy enough and stays on with a thick covering. There is a nice gentle scent of Berries on this and it is nice to have this kind of scent I think. This comes off easy enough and afterwards you are left with Smooth, Hair free parts that are slightly Moisturised and also the Berry scent seems to linger a little bit on your skin too. A good product that does the job it's meant to do, was a good price when I got it and the scent from this is nice as well.
When I have time to myself (generally when my daughter is in bed and the horses are all done) it is nice to have a good soak in the bath and a little bit of pampering. Part of my beauty care regime is hair removal and normally I get about 5 minutes in the shower for this but when I have enough time it is nice to relax in the bath and complete this task! One item I always have on hand is Gilette shaving foam for women. I really like their range of products available and I find that they don't irritate my skin. Recently whilst browsing in Boots I found that they were on offer so I ended up with two shaving foams both from the same range just two different aromas. The one for this review is Gilette Satin Care Wild Berry. What Gilette say: "Show Your Wild Side with Wild Berry®" Well being a busy mum I don't have much of a wild side but as I do love berry scented products I couldn't resist this one! *~* What is it? *~* Gilette has a range called Satin Care which is supposed to leave your legs as smooth as satin basically! It comes in six varieties; Wild Berry, Oceania, Lavender Kiss, Floral Passion, Avocado Twist and Radiant Peach. Each variety contains skin friendly ingredients which help nourish and moisturise. For my variety of choice, Wild Berry, the shaving gel has been infused with a berry fragrance. *~* Packaging *~* The shaving gel comes in a metal, lilac coloured aerosol can with a plastic top which just snaps on. To obtain the shaving gel you just need to snap the top off and press down on top of the canister and it comes out gently. The lilac colour matches the wild berry fragrance and it features an image of berries on the front - what berries they resemble I am unsure of! There is the Gilette logo together with the product name. All the varieties are coloured coded together with a little image to resemble the type. On the back of the can are the instructions and ingredients etc. *~* Using it *~* ~ Consistency ~ The shaving gel is a gel when it first comes out and is a lovely shade of lilac/ purple but as soon as it hits the air it soon goes from a clear gel to a very pale lilac type foam and does expand in size. It is quite a soft, rich shaving gel which is lovely and smooth when applied. It doesn't drip anywhere and is thick enough to stay in place once applied. ~ Colour ~ As I said above it does start off as a lovely lilac hue but then does turn a very pale lilac almost white colour when it has come out of the canister and meets the air. ~ Aroma ~ Well it certainly has a sweet berry scent but there is nothing wild about it! It is obviously a synthetic berry fragrance but it is subtle enough not to be classed as sickly sweet but it does provide a lovely almost refreshing scent which only stays around for a few minutes until you've washed the shaving gel off your legs. A perfectly pleasant aroma which is certainly welcomed. It doesn't remind me of any berry in particular but then I wasn't expecting it to! ~ Application ~ I really shouldn't need to put this in but I will just in case as it is so simple! You just need to apply a thin layer on your legs. There is no point in using too much as apart from wasting the product you will spend longer shaving your legs. It doesn't come out of the aerosol too quickly so waste is minimal. It does need to be applied to wet legs in order to reduce any irritation. Once on your legs just simply shave as you would normally and then rinse off with warm water. ~ Results ~ To use this shaving gel is incredibly simple and because when you press down on the top you don't get too much unless you are being a bit heavy handed. The scent is a nice little extra to the shaving gel and is lovely and sweet but it is a shame that the scent doesn't last a little longer or linger around as it is so nice. The shaving gel is velvety soft and stays that way once on the legs but it is still sticky enough (if that makes sense!) to actually stay in place once applied. I found it is best applying a thin layer but cover the legs evenly and my razor glides through with no problems and the hair is easily removed. After rinsing off and then drying off once out of the bath I have noticed a difference in my skin after using the shaving gel a few times in that it doesn't look quite as dry as it does if I have shaved without using a shaving gel. My legs seem moisturised and nourished a lot more but best of all the shaving gel hasn't caused any irritation which I half expected being a perfumed product but it does seem very gentle on the skin. I'm guessing the satin feel comes from the silk amino acids which is listed in the ingredients list. I also noticed that it features aloe which helps look after and sooth skin which is a great ingredient to have in a shaving gel. *~* Ingredients *~* Water, Laureth 23, Stearoyl Sarcosine, Isopentane, Myristal Alcohol, Treithanolamine, Myristoyl Sarcosine, Laureth 4, Isobutane, Fragrance, Petrolatum, PEG-14M, PEG-10 Soy Sterol, Polyquaternium-10, Hydroxyethylcellulose, DMDM Hydantoin, Propylene Glycol, Silk Amino Acids, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Magnesium Nitrate, Silica, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopherol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, BHT, FD&C Violet 2. *~* Price and Availability *~* It is available in a 195g can and can be purchased in a variety of supermarkets, stores such as Boots and Superdrug as well as discount stores. It can be purchased from around £2.70 up to £3.30 depending where you buy it from. *~* Overall *~* A lovely fragranced shaving gel which helps give a luxurious shave. Cares for legs and does keep them soft and smooth. It basically says what it does on the tin! Definitely a recommendation.
I've used a lot of different shaving gel brands over the years, but for a while now I've been buying products from the Gillette Satin Care range. One of my favourites in the range is the Wild Berry scented gel. If you've read any of my beauty product reviews before, you'll probably be aware that I prefer to buy paraben and SLS-free products. Most supermarket own brands contain one or two of these ingredients, so even though the Gilette brand is my local supermarket's most expensive option (often by £2 or more), I tend to choose it unless I'm really pushed for cash. The packaging is a pretty standard metal tube. You simply remove the big plastic lid, then push the button on top to release the gel. I'm not sure if there's a specific reason why it's made out of metal, but it's slightly annoying because it can get rusty on the bottom when wet for long periods. It leaves a mark on the side of my bath and a rusty stain on the canister as well, so I'd recommend keeping it away from water where possible. Other than that I'd say the packaging is a practical choice as the lid is easy to remove and the gel easy to dispense. Even if you lose the lid as I often do, the gel doesn't dry out and is still perfectly usable. Using the gel is very simple; just push the button to dispense a small amount into your hand, then rub it onto your skin where it will create a pretty thick white lather. You can then run your razor over and shave without worrying about cutting yourself or not removing the hairs completely. The gel is a lovely light purple colour which quickly and easily lathers up when you rub it in. I often shave using shower gel or even shampoo when I run out of gel, but it makes such a difference using a proper quality product and is a bit of a luxury item really. The gel smells of berries - more blackberry than anything I'd say, but with a sweeter kick. It does smell very artificial and you're not going to fool anyone that it's made with real berries, but it's pleasant enough and gets rinsed off and replaced with shower gel anyway. The only downside is that it's easy to use too much gel, which then lathers up to the extent that you need to rinse the razor every couple of seconds because it's covered with a thick layer of foam and so reduces the blade's efficiency. For this reason I'd recommend using this product in the shower and not the bath, otherwise you'll end up with foam floating everywhere. However, I do feel that it's better than using too little gel and risking being cut. I don't have sensitive skin, but I've never found my legs feeling itchy or irritated after shaving with this gel, whereas they with some cheaper shaving gels. I find that a canister of this shaving gel will last a good couple of months at least. The purple container looks pretty enough in the bathroom and the only disadvantage is the price; it costs up to £3 to £4 in my local Sainsbury's (compared to their own brand gels price of around £1-2), and to be honest it's not all that much better. If you like scented gels though and you're concerned about parabens and SLS, then the Gillette range is a good alternative.
Gillette for Women Satin Care "Wild Berry" Shave Gel - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For a couple of years now I have been stealing my boyfriend's shaving gel when shaving my legs because I found that his was just better than mine. He had a Gillette brand...for men. I found that when I used my own shaving gel it didn't thicken up enough and stay in place on my legs, so I just stole his on the sly. After a while he tired off me using his things and suggested that I try buying a gillette shaving gel for myself and trying it to see if it was any better than my current. I had a look in Wilkinsons and found the product that I am reviewing on special offer AND it was Gillette so had high hopes that it would be of a similar quality to the men's one. I wasn't dissapointed! Packaging and Price - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The shaving gel comes in a 200ml metal canister and is lilac in colour with the following white writing on the front; Gillette for Women. Satin Care. Wild Berry with Silk. On the reverse of the canister is contact details and ingredients. The product was on offer when I purchased it at the reasonable price of £1.00. The standard price is approximately £2.60. This product will last me about 1-2 months using it a couple of times a week. Product Description - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The gel is lilac in colour, the same colour as the outside of the packaging and smells sweet and luxuroius like berries. Only a small amount of gel is needed as it thicken up really easily and provides a good coverage with relative ease. A walnut sized amount should be enough to cover one leg. Applcation is easy. Smooth over a walnut sized amount (or as much as you need) of gel over the are you wish to shave. It will immediatley thicken and turn from lilac to white in colour. The shave as normal. Wash away any residue gel. This is the best shaving gel I have ever used. It smells delicious and very feminine with berry essences and leaves you legs ultra smooth, soft and silky due to it's moisturising properties. After washing off your skin will still lightly smell of berries. Also gives you a great close shave. I would definately recommend this product to all women who shave. A great product! My daughters & I have all used this nice SatinCare Wild Berry Shave gel & all agree that it's a good product. I'm mentioning them here because they're 22 & 18 but I'm 56 so this seems to suit all ages. We all hate hairy armpits & legs but don't like the idea of electrolysis or strips so we all continue to do it the old fashioned way - manual shaving! This shaving gel had a RRP of £2.40 but luckily I has some Boots Advantage Points so it was 'free'. It looks exactly as shown in the picure & is nice enough to leave out on the bathroom shelf. The product has a pull-off cap but we've found you have to push it down quite hard after use as it has a habit of popping off. The pump action works well but be careful not to push it down too hard otherwise you'll find the gel goes everywhere. The gel itself is a fairly thick lilac colour which is ideal for gliding a razor through & it goes quite a long way; as I'm not very hairy I only need to use 2 squirts per leg -but obviously you may need to use a bit more depending on colour & texture. However it seems to have lasted all 3 of us a good few weeks. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell which initially is quite strong & very sweet but luckily the fragrance wears off soon after rinsing. My legs & underarms were hair-free & felt nice & soft after using this & none of us have experienced any dryness or adverse reaction to our skin. Although it states on the can 'this special formula is wonderfully moisturising on your skin' I wouldn't go quite that far & 'Feel the difference!' well, I didn't really notice anything spectacular I must admit although it's a good gel which is pleasant & easy to use plus it works. There's a long list of contents listed on the reverse of the can (all gobbledegook to me) & directions on how to use & the usual cautions. There is also a phoneline & website address for questions & comments. summary ~ - easy to use gel which helps in the shaving process. - top can come off after use if you don't push firmly' - good texture & rinses off easily. - strong sweet smell which thankfully wears off quite quickly. - lasts a fair while. - skin feels soft & smooth after use. - recommended if you see it on offer.
I think that this is a really good product, I found this at my local savers for about £2.40. It comes in a tin with a pump top so it is easy to dispense, be careful though you don't need to press it very hard as it will squirt everywhere. The product is puprle and has a delicate berry smell to it with you can smell but it isn't really very strong. It foams up really well and a small bit does go a long way it stays on your legs quite well even if you do get them under the water I have found with other shave gels that they wash off really easily so I am quite pleased that this doesn't. This gives a really close shave and I think my legs feel much smoother than they do after using just soap. Ithink that the results last longer so you don't have to shave your legs as often. It also gives a smooth shave so you have a lot less cuts on your legs something which I am always doing and ruining any plans I have for wearing a nice dress! It leaves your skin feeling really soft and I have noticed my skin isn't as dry as it used to be when using other gels or just soap. It works well even if you use cheaper razors as I feel these don't usually give as good a result as more expensive ones. I would definatley give this product a try you'll have lovely smooth and silky legs.
What is it? ******** A foaming gel specifically designed for women who shave. This particular review will focus on the Wild berry version. What does it do? ************* It claims to contain some form of silk - the ingredients state 'silk amino acids'. Using this gel should help make the shaving process easier and smoother and leave your skin feeling soft and silky after shaving. How do I use it? ************* The gel may be used for underarms and legs. First dampen the skin area. Release some gel from the bottle pump. Then massage into skin, this will work up a considerable amount of foam/lather and ensure even coverage over shaving area. Usually I only use a small pea size's worth on a small area - as this does lather up quite well, so a little goes a long way in terms of coverage. Using a clean razor, shave as normal using the foam as a marker of the areas that need to be shaved. Does it work? *********** The average shaving process takes less than 5 minutes, and this being a wash off product, it's fair to say that to expect this to sooth, nourish and moisturise in such a short time is probably asking too much. I can't really vouch for ultra silky smooth and soft legs after using this, but the important thing is, it doesn't leave my skin feeling irritated, dry or uncomfortable. I have also used this under my arms with no problems. The wild berry smell is quite nice, though after a while it can seem artificial. However, once it has been rinsed off, it doesn't seem to linger. Added to that, you would probably be using other bath / shower products as well, so it will definitely be all washed off by then. Cost? **** This costs around £3.49 for a 200ml pressurised bottle. I use it every fortnight and it lasts me a good three to four months. Overall? ****** I would recommend this shaving gel, as it is quite mild on the skin, though the smell can be a little overwhelming. Though it doesn't produce any spectacular results on the skin, this is not a moisturiser anyway. It leaves my skin feeling very comfortable, non-drying and doesn't irritate. Designed to make shaving easier, less hassle and certainly gives me one thing less to worry about. Thanks for reading xx ©Leighsady 2008
I love being a girl but one thing that we definitely have to keep up is having smooth legs and underarms. In Europe some women dont even bother about hair but for most it is a priority and although you can get laser hair removal these days or waxing I do like to shave still as I feel at least it is done if youre in a hurry. When going on holiday I do tend to wax as the hair is away longer and laser hair removal is something Id definitely look into but for the minute the nearest option I have is Gillette Satin Care and the scent I buy it in has always been Wild Berry but they do a scent free one and Aloe Vera also so its up to you. He packaging for Satin Care is quite pretty and usually easy to find. It comes in a metal can quite a tall cylindrical package. The main body colour is lilac and it says Satin Care in white text. It has a little picture of a berry on the front and the usual Gillette logo and the lid is a white pearlescent colour which is see through, The actual top once the lid is off is a push down nozzle so that the gel comes out easy enough. Its hard to tell when the product is finished as you cannot see it but usually the tin gets lighter so you just have to assume that way. So the actual smell, well as mentioned before I always go for the scent Wild Berry, it smells really sweet and just like berries. It leaves your legs smelling nice afterwards which is good. As mentioned above though this is not the only scent they do they also do Melon Splash, Apricot, Scent Free and Aloe Vera or they do one for just sensitive skin. I dont always see all of these available when I go shopping for a new shaving gel, it really just depends where exactly you go and what they have in stock at the particular time you go in. As for the actual using of the product this is easy enough. You push down the top nozzle once the lid is removed and then the purple gel will come out but you have to watch and not push it too hard as if too much comes out its just a waste and you dont need a lot. For legs you need a bigger blob, so you just rub it onto your leg evenly and it turns into a white foam rather than its natural gel like state. It is quite thick on the leg then you grab your razor and start to move the blade up and youll notice how smooth the leg looks as the razor glides along removing the hair. Once your whole leg is done it should be smooth and all the gel should have gone. When doing underarms I always use a smaller amount and feel it really shaves closer. Some people dont bother buying the shave gels but it all depends on how thick your hair is or how quick it grows in. Some people just use shower gel then get their razor and shave that way. I have done this in the past but found the hair grew back quite quickly and also it didnt shave as close as it could have. With using the actual shaving gel I found that the hair didnt grow back until a few days later and my legs had stayed smoother longer and even when first done they looked really smooth. I use a Gillette Razor as well as the gel but you can use any razor with the gel. On the product package it also mentions how the shaving gel as well as giving you a closer shave is actually moisturising the legs so this is why it is a good idea to buy it. So for places to purchase the shaving gel, well I usually get mine at Asda or Tesco as I am usually nearest a supermarket. However you can also buy it in the likes of Superdrug or Boots in other words anywhere really that sells toiletries or supermarkets should all stock it although Boots and places will probably be more likely to have a wider scent range and sometimes an offer. On http://www.boots.com they dont actually sell the Wild Berry scent but they do sell the Soothing shave gel or the Vibrance one. If you want the Wild Berry one go to http://www.britishcornershop.co.uk/britishfood.asp?id=SGN0660 where it is a bit pricier than in the shops. Im sure when I buy this it is usually something like £1.70 for the 200ml can. I would recommend going to the shops for this though as it is much cheaper I have only listed the online options for those who want to get the actual Wild Berry one that cant find it anywhere or for those who live far away and cannot access somewhere to purchase this.
I have used floral passion and wild berry, and between the two I definitely prefer wild berry! The smell is so luscious and fruity....i adore it! Floral passion was dissapointing, not much fragrance and I couldnt wait for it to get over so I could buy wild berry........as for performance, it is very smooth and creamy on the legs, and a little goes a long way...but i dont find much difference between any product in the Satin care range.
