      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A good product but don't leave on

I picked up a bottle of Kings shaving oil simply as an experiment. I do find that many shaving foams smell quite masculine and despite the fact they don't linger on my skin I prefer something that doesn't smell so masculine. I also had never tried shaving oil so was keen to see if the results were better or worse. I also was keen for something I could use to shave my legs while my son was playing in the bath. I picked mine up on a car boot sealed in its original plastic packaging for 20p so I had nothing to lose by trying it. King of Shaves it a product that seems to be directed at men but this is King of the shaves blu shaving oil for women.

The oil comes in a small bottle of only 15mls with a spray .The idea is that you apply it to wet skin to give you a close protective shave. The first time I used it I have to say I didn't read the instructions and simply sprayed the dry oil on my legs. This was quite an uncomfortable. I was very disappointed as it simply dragged the razor across my skin. The oil is advertised as fragrance free Enhanced with Aloe, Vitamin E , Tea Tree Oil and Chamomile so actually despite the fact it is advertised as fragrance free does have quite a feminine smell.

My second time was much more successful. It is a little messier I ran a sink of water and wet my legs before spraying some oil into my hand then rubbing it on my legs. I did find it was a remarkably smooth shave and the razor did glide over the legs. I simply rinsed the razor in the sink as I continued. I do believe this oil gave me a much closer shave.

The oil also claims to reduce shaving rash. I do suffer with finding a product that will stop shaving rash on my bikini area. This did reduce it but not stop it completely. I have found the most effective treatment for this is to apply roll on deodorant after shaving.

After shaving you are advised to leave the oil on and leave it to ask into your skin. Sadly for me this was not something that felt very comfortable it didn't seem to soak into the skin and left my skin feeling greasy so I prefer to wash it off and add a more feminine moisturiser. I do now prefer to simply shave my legs prior to getting in the bath and then soak the oil off as otherwise it does get quite messy.

It does claim to give 100 shaves but this recommendation would be for men's faces and would expect to get about 50 for my legs as I tend to use a couple of sprays per leg.

I do think this is a great product and even though it is more expensive than shaving foam this is one case where you do get what you pay for and if you want a closer shave then I would recommend this product.

The fact this bottle is so small does make it ideal for travelling and does mean on holidays you do not need to go out and buy a special travel size pack at twice the price.

The king of shaves oil is currently £3.05 at Boots so as you can see more expensive than saving foam but in my opinion definitely worth the extra expense. Despite this product been advertised towards the male market it is not a product just for men and would recommend the Women Blu shaving oil

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

King of Shaves make some good products, but this is a tad expensive for what it is...

I purchased this during my weekly shop. I've used King of Shaves Oils before when wet shaving a few years back and I stopped when I lost interest....just too much hassle when I get a great shave from just the gel.

Anyway, I know found a whole new application for the oil; beard triming! I recently purchased a beard trimmer so I can trim my hair down to very short stubble instead of a wet shave every other day.

Having prior knowledge having used the oil and similar ones like Somersets Oil, I picked up the cheapest from Tesco - £2.50. The first use I popped a few drops in my hand and rubbed it into my facial hair. You can immediately feel the difference...but would Olive Oil do the same trick... Unfortunatley I've yet to try cooking ingredients in my personal hygiene routine, but I doubt it would be far off.

King of Shares claim the oil lubricates during the shave and moisturises your skin. I can say it made a big difference from the dry trimming, but I'm not so sure on the price... The time taken to trim was cut down as the trimmer was achieving a smother easier hair cutting experience. The hair also feels more even...not strays which missed the blades.

As I get 30 uses I'll make the most of it, but I'll be giving the olive oil a try to see if the same results are achieved....
