I bought Nivea sensitive shaving gel to try as I use Nivea and I also shave ( strangely enough ) but I usually use gel or foam from Gillette, this or something else leaves my face dry and tight feeling. Every so often I try a new way of doing things, I tried an electric razor but I had no idea how people use those and get a good shave.
I use Gillette razors for shaving in packs of ten like millions of men around the country probably, this makes it easier to get you buying Gillette shaving cream as it is a familiar name / brand and then you get used to it. But as I said they are not designed for sensitive skin, but I like to try and be ' normal' and not be over sensitive, so only buy special products when things get to be a problem.
It is made to be more sensitive and make your skin feel smooth and protect you from irritations, it has Chamomile and Vitamin E in it.
Aqua,TEA-Palmitate ,Oleth-20 ,Isopentane ,Glycerin ,Isopropyl Palmitate ,Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract ,Maltodextrin ,Tocopheryl Acetate ,Hydroxyethylcellulose ,Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose ,Laureth-2 ,PEG-14 M ,PEG-90 Glyceryl Isostearate ,Polyisobutene ,Isobutane ,Piroctone Olamine ,BHT ,Linalool ,Parfum
This is a gel so people should not expect it to turn into to foam if they are used to using foam. I think this is comparable to other gels in that when I use hot water and put some gel on and lather it up, the gel gives enough lather to shave with. This Nivea sensitive gel is mild in all forms and is very pleasant to use, nit very fun or exciting, maybe even bland.
It is good for your skin though, and a few days with this and I don't need to put sun cream or moisturiser on to stop my face feeling dry, or not as much, maybe once a day not twice.
Like most men, I really hate shaving.
Its boring, has to be done almost every day and, in my case, hurts like heck! I suffer from extremely sensitive skin, and shaving has always been something I dread. I must have tried every combination of razor blade, shave foam, shave gel and aftershave balm known to man...
Nivea Men's Sensitive Shaving Gel was just the next one to try on the supermarket shelf for me, but it was truly a game changer. Whereas before, after shaving I usually ended up with several cuts on my face and neck, with Nivea I had just one. Pleased, but thinking I may have just got lucky, I used it over a week, and by weeks end, had no cuts at all. For the first time in years! I have used it now for several years, and cannot recommend it enough.
I'm no expert on the technical side of the product, but it uses 'ultra glide technology' (sounds like Batman uses it!), and uses a subtle fragrance formula with chamomile and vitamin care that is developed especially by Nivea to soothe irritated and sensitive skin. It certainly does the job.
Although its price is a little higher than many other gel's, at around the £3 mark, it is worth it, especially as I find you can use a relatively small of amount of gel each shave; cheaper products tend to need more a lot more as I recall. I also like the fact that, although it has a scent, it is gentle and pleasant, nothing too over-powering; my wife has commented on that as well.
Would recommend to all, but especially men with sensitive skin.
* INFO - WHY DID I BUY? *
Whenever I holiday abroad, I am always on the lookout for smaller-than-average sized cosmetics and toiletries to take with me, as they take up less space - and weight - in our luggage allowance, which is very limited at times, depending on the airline we are travelling with at the time.
This is how I got to try out the "Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel" recently, when I noticed a miniature version of the product situated near the check-out in a local branch of 'Savers', the discounted drugstore. I was standing in the queue waiting to pay for my assorted purchases when I noticed a display of small and petite-sized toiletries that seemed the perfect size for my upcoming travels. I purchased a few of the miniature sized bottles and tins, delighted with my find.
It wasn't until I got home that I actually realised the small 50ml tin of Nivea Shaving Gel was a product designed for - and aimed at - the male consumer, with the words "For Men" appearing in small print on the front of the white canister, directly underneath the popular Nivea branding. I had been somewhat rushed and distracted as my purchases were impulse buys, made at the last minute whilst shopping. I will admit to feeling slightly cautious about using the Nivea shaving gel, but as it was only intended for use on my legs, I decided to try it out at home prior to my holiday to assess its suitability for my needs.
* PRODUCT INFO & MY EXPERIENCE *
The packaging is fairly typical of a shaving gel product, being a metal canister with a plastic 'pump' dispenser on top, similar to that with an aerosol spray that allows the gel inside the canister to be dispensed easily. The metal can is a plain white colour and the bold blue Nivea branding stands out against the stark white of the can, offering an attractive contrast. It is fair to say that the product does have quite a 'masculine' look about it, not surprising really, considering the product is aimed at the male consumer.
As a side note, it may be worth noting that the plastic dispenser on top of the canister has never broken or cracked during use, and I have experienced no difficulty in dispensing the product from the can, even though I suffer from mobility problems that affect the strength in my hands. Whilst this may not be the most important point for the average consumer, those with limited mobility may benefit from knowing that the packaging has never really posed any problem with my using it, which is not always the case with products with this design.
The Nivea Shaving Gel is a sort of pale yellow colour, although it is see-through as you would expect. I find that a very small amount of the gel is ample for coating one leg or underarm thoroughly, mainly because the product lathers very easily into a thick foam substance upon contact with water. This has made the small canister last for a reasonably long amount of time, proving it to be an economical purchase.
I find that my razor glides easily through the shaving gel, completely and quickly. Any hairs are removed effortlessly when shaving with the product. I find too that the gel offers excellent protection against my delicate skin, providing a thick layer of product which protects against the sharp razor edge. This means that there have been significantly fewer nicks and cuts when using the Nivea product, although I do find most shaving gels have this 'protective' barrier contained within their foamy layers.
The consistency of the gel is on a par with most other shaving products that I use regularly, and it is thick enough that it doesn't 'drip' or run from my hands when I am using it.
There is a light scent evident as the product is dispensed, and this remains throughout use. The scent is quite understated and I find it has an 'earthy' feeling to it, although there is a hint of something 'herb-like' in its aroma too. The scent dissipates as the product is rinsed from the skin and I can find no trace of it once my skin has been dried. Similarly, I find the use of body lotions or scented body creams swamp the light aroma altogether, although this is an observation on my part and is not intended to sound like a criticism.
In terms of the product being "Sensitive", I feel that this claim is justified, with no uncomfortable itching or irritation evident to me after using the product. I suffer from very sensitive skin, and it tends to object to being shaven for the most part, with regular 'flares' of uncomfortable red patches on my legs being a common side-effect for me after shaving. Another unpleasant side-effect is that the skin on my legs will become very dry, often accompanied by a 'tight' feeling that is difficult to alleviate, particularly as most body lotions or creams only exacerbate the problem. For these reasons, I was understandably cautious about using the product for the first few times, but was reassured somewhat by the addition of the word "Sensitive" to the product's name. I have never experienced ANYTHING in the way of irritation or dryness to my troublesome skin, so I would definitely recommend the product for consumers with sensitive skin or eczema, as I think it carries a rather mild formulation.
I liked the Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel so much that I have actually repurchased it for myself since my first trial a while back. I have found its sensitive formula and 'fuss-free' consistency suit me down to the ground, making it the ideal addition to my hair removal routine. I feel that my skin is fully protected with the use of this gel and it has certainly reduced the amount of nicks and cuts that I experience during shaving. These points have allowed me to conclude that the Nivea gel is justified of being awarded five stars in the product rating score and it comes with my full recommendation - for men AND women..!
As @ the time of writing (September 2012), the small canister of Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel can be purchased from a whole variety of drugstores such as Savers, where prices range from about £1.50 - £2. Alternatively, you can purchase the full-sized canister which is 200ml in size from a variety of retailers such as Boots, where it is currently priced at £2.99. It is also available to purchase online from assorted websites where prices start at around £2.
I don't ask for a lot out of a shaving gel or foam when it comes to me having a wet shave, all I want is for a product to foam up to a decent consistency and for it to soften the bristles on my neck and face. Given that this shouldn't be too hard to achieve I'm constantly amazed at just how rubbish some of the shaving gels actually are that are available to buy especially from the budget, supermarket brands and the term 'false economy' more than applies when it comes to buying some of the cheaper end products that provide little in the way of protection against razor burn or rash. It was after a disastrous shave using Asda's own shaving gel that prompted me to look for something better as that single encounter left me with more nicks and cuts on my face than I've had since first shaving over 20 years ago and so deciding to go on the look-out for a 'brand' name I ended up buying Nivea's Sensitive Shaving Gel for Men.
Packaged as shown in the accompanying picture it's a rather understated product which sits unassumingly amongst the brighter, more eye-catching shaving gels on the shelves of supermarkets and chemists but drawn to the Nivea name and the claims that it "protects skin from irritation" I parted with a little under £3.00 for my 200ml can and waited until I was next ready for a shave before I used it for the first time. I'm rather lazy when it comes to shaving and prefer to leave it a few days inbetween shaves, not only do I prefer the stubble look a couple of days of non-shaving achieves but I'm also prone to razor rash and irritation on my neck if I shave too often so tend to shave around 2 or 3 times a week or when my moustache and beard area adopt a scruffy rather than stubbly look. The claims on the back of the can of this shaving gel from Nivea state that this is "good for men with sensitive skin who want to protect against irritation and razor burn and the "New Active Comfort System" formula is extra-gentle, fragrance-neutral and enriched with natural pure Chamomile and Vitamin E to care for the skin". It has "Ultra Glide" technology which apparently softens the beard, helps protect against irritation and allows for a close and extra comfortable shave and the directions for use are clearly explained on the can although it's pretty obvious how to use any sort of shaving gel and this one from Nivea is no different to any of the countless others that are available.
The can has a pump-action nozzle on its top and the gel is easily administered onto your hand, it's pearlescent white in colour and has no odour whatsoever to it. My first reaction when I saw what it looked like was that of disappointment as it looked far too runny to be of much use but my opinion changed when I started to rub the gel into my beard area as it soon lathered up into a rich, thick white foam which felt smooth to the touch. I only use disposable razors nowadays as I got fed up of having to buy replacement heads for my expensive Mach 3 razors and even with inexpensive single-use throwaway razors the gel allowed for a smooth shave that left me stubble free in next to no time. I found a single application of gel was sufficient to give me a clean shave first time and I was impressed with how refreshed my skin looked once I had washed away the remaining residue, my neck (normally a problem area for me with some shave gels) didn't feel hot or irritated after using the gel and I could tell a difference to how my skin felt after using this compared to the cheaper gels I have used in the past. I've found over time that I don't need a great deal of the product to give me a good coverage and given how often I shave during the week my first can has lasted me a lot longer than the other cheaper alternatives used to so I think for the money it costs then it's working out to be actually cheaper for me in the long-run.
I would certainly recommend this to anyone who shaves daily, its formulation seems to be a lot milder and gentle than other shave gels I've used in the past and I've had no experience of my skin feeling dried out or irritated once I've used it. It doesn't claim to be a moisturising shave gel so some other after-shave product may be required for those with extra-sensitive skin but for me it's just about perfect and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. I will continue to use and buy this from Nivea over the cheaper gels that I used to buy and my five star rating here goes to show how impressed I am with it.
Definitely recommended, thanks for reading my review.
I'm generally not too fussy when it comes to which shaving gel or foam to buy, and as a result am not brand loyal to anyone, thus I generally go for whichever one is on special offer at the time in the supermarket. One that I have found on more than one occasion on the cheap is the Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel.
Now obviously Nivea are a very well known brand in the personal beauty product market for both men and women, and so you can be pretty sure that you are purchasing a good quality brand. The cost in my local supermarket is £2.90 for a 200ml can of it; however as I said it is regularly on special offer at £2 which I don't think is too bad an asking price.
The can itself is an example of less is more design, being all white except for the prominent Nivea logo at the top. Directions for use and a list of ingredients is provided on the side, however I am sure the vast majority of people will have some knowledge of how shaving gel works, and without a doctorate in chemistry, the ingredient list is probably going to be of no real use. It is worth pointing out however that it is there for anyone with specific intolerances to check out.
I really don't have a preference when it comes to actual shaving between a foam and a gel, however in my experience, and this is particularly true of this product, that the same sized cans of foam and gel cost around the same price, but the gel goes a lot further than the foam and so in these tough economic times if I can make a saving anywhere then I certainly will. In addition, I don't suffer from excessively sensitive skin, but have been prone to a lesser extent to some soreness and redness especially if I haven't shaved in a couple of days. The reason I bought the sensitive one is down to my reasoning of "Why should expose my face to a potentially harsher one if a sensitive one is available." Possibly not Freudian philosophy but logical non the less!
The mechanism for dispensing the gel is very straightforward and common, simply depress the centre and the gel will come out. I have to say that my one major bugbear with this product is that the gel comes out quite slowly due to its thickness and doesn't really clear the side of the can, meaning that the area around the dispenser can become rather messy after a short while and needs to be constantly cleaned. Not a disaster and nothing a dampened cloth or paper towel can't solve, but annoying all the same.
I have found with this product more so than all other gels that I have tried is that a little goes a very long way, adding to the economic benefit to your wallet. The gel is more viscous than most on the market, and I can get a very decent lather going with only a very small squirt into my hand. It also applies very nicely, is easy to rub on without becoming very thick on your skin, which also helps when you come to shave. The gel has a slight floral scent to it, which is quite pleasant without being too overpowering or feminine, and as you apply it to your face, you do feel a soothing sensation that reassures you that it is relaxing your bristles ready for shaving.
The acid test for any shaving product, gel or foam is how easy it is to shave and how it feels afterwards. I have to say that although I have never had any particular issues with shaving, with some brands you do notice the odd tug especially if shaving against the grain. This is not an issue that I have noticed with this Nivea sensitive shaving gel and I'm impressed at the ease in which the razor glides across my face. In addition the shave is always very close, meaning you don't have to constantly shave over the same places time and time again which again will lead to a reduction in irritation afterwards. The easy and closeness of the shave means that the whole process is speeded up which also has to be a bonus.
It also has to be said that your face feels refreshed after you have finished shaving and rinsed off. I've already said that I don't notice any kind of irritation, and you are left with the cooling feeling from the gel for a good while after you've finished shaving leaving your skin feeling in a good condition. I've also noticed with the product that when applying aftershave you don't get the stinging sensation immediately after shaving that you do with some other brands of foams and gels.
So to sum this one up, I would recommend it to anyone out there who wants to try a good gel product from a well-known brand that leads to a very satisfying close shave. The issue with the dispenser is annoying, but ultimately is one of design and not one that detracts from the actual shaving experience, and if you can get it on special offer somewhere then it is well worth a couple of quid of anyone's money.
Thanks for reading this review and it may also appear on Ciao under my same username.
The price of the shaving gel is around the £3.00 mark for 200ml, personally I think this is a decent price to pay for this because a little of the gel goes such a long way!
The one which the OH has doesn't look like the above, it has changed a bit since that one anyway!
It comes in a white round tall bottle with a clear top which you pull of.
Over the white bottle is a dark blue/black strip which contains the Nivea logo.
Spread over the rest of the bottle is more useful information on the shaving cream.
On the top of the bottle is a nozzle which the gel comes out of.
Over all, a very simple but nice looking shaving gel tube!
OK so I know I'm a girl and I shouldn't be using my OH shaving gel, but when you run out of something and nothing else is there, what choice do you have?
I absolutely love this shaving cream, it has a nice clean fresh smell about it, it feels so soft on your legs and under your arms, and it just really is so soothing. ( They should make this, but for girls! ) I have used this so many times, and I always find myself coming back to it whenever I run out of the one I currently use.
The gel itself comes out clear(ish) , but as you rub it into where you want to shave it goes into a white cream which actually lathers up better than any other shaving gel or cream which I have ever uses and it feels so soft on and cover up the area so well, it also has such a nice fresh smell too it and it feels so soothing whilst on your skin, and the best part all you need is a tiny splodge of this stuff!
My razor goes through the gel very easily and doesn't feel discomforting, the gel leaves my under arms and legs feeling so moisturised and soft and smooth, I haven't ever had a cut or felt unhappy after using it, the result is always pleasant!
My OH likes me using this too! he doesn't shout or go mad like every one would expect him too from using his gel, but he always ask me what have I been using because I feel so soft and smooth, plus it makes my legs look healthier! so I am glad he notices this, as this proves I am not just seeing things!
Great gel, even if it is for a man.
My OH looks and feels great after he shaves with this stuff :)
I do not have a favourite shaving gel and I just usually buy which one takes my fancy and any that are at a reduced price or on offer. I had not tried this one before and so I thought I would like to try to see if I liked it or not. I did buy this one at the time because I was shopping with my wife and she was buying some other products from the same isle and I spotted this gel.
Nivea products have been on the market for many years and this gel comes in a can with the name on the front, it is a pump dispenser product with a top to place over the nozzle when it is not in use. For a 200ml, it cost £3.60, I thought it was a good price for the well known brand. The gel is quite thick, it is smooth and white, it smells really nice, I think it has a nice fragrance with not too much perfume added.
I just place a small amount onto my fingertips and work it onto my skin. It feels nice and refreshing on my skin, I find when I shave, my razor glides across my skin more easily with this gel. The gel I find does not drip from my face as I have found some other brands to do. This one stays on my skin instead of dripping into the sink.
The fragrance is one that makes my bathroom smell nice while I am using it and some time after use too. The can is an attractive one if anyone prefers one that is not basic looking. I do not mind myself what a product looks like but my wife likes a nice looking product if possible and so if you are the same, this one is the one for you.
It is easy to rinse from the face after I have shaved. My skin feels nice and soft, it also feels moisturised and I have had no skin irritations after using it. I think the quality is very good with this one. It feels nice on my skin too. My wife has used it on her legs for when she has wanted to shave them. It has been equally suitable for her skin in the same way as it has been for my own. She is happy with the smell and she thinks it is suitable for both men and woman, I tend to think the same but the product does state for men but it is not too much of a masculine smell.
I think it is worth the price tag for this one, I recommend it, it is good value for money, it is also a very good quality. It is a little higher than some products on the market but this one is definitely worth it.
I cannot fault this gel and I will buy it again as it is very suitable for my skin and it makes for a smoother shave.
I rate it 5 stars.
There seems to be a whole world of choice when it comes to shaving gels these days, and I am hoping I am not the only one confused by the mass selection that faces me when I go shopping! There seems to be a different gel for each problem, from dry, to oily and anything in between. It really can be difficult to pick one, so in the end up I gave up choosing and just used whatever one my partner had in the bathroom at the time.
For Christmas he got a few skin care gift sets, as most men seem to do, and one of these was a Nivea set which included a can of Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel. I have quite sensitive skin and I have used a fair few shaving gels on my legs, which caused my skin to rash up and become sore very quickly, even the "sensitive" ones! I was worried as to how I would end up reacting to this one, but having none left of my own, I had to use something on my legs when I needed to shave.
The gel inside the can is quite thick, and it comes out of the can nice and easily when you depress the pump. Make sure you shake the can though before dispensing the gel, as it does come out a bit different otherwise. I learnt this the hard way but it is something I will always remember from now on. Once you have the gel in your hand, just use your fingers to spread the gel over the areas where you are shaving. Once you start spreading, the gel turns into a thick kind of foam with a gel base and it froths up into a nice, thick white colour. A tiny bit really spreads quite far, and it is quite easy to spread once it mixes with the water.
I found a blob of gel about the size of a 50p piece spread to cover the whole of my lower leg from knee to ankle. Once the shaving was started, I could see that this was a really good shaving gel, as it was so good to use. It was great at keeping my skin smooth and protected from the blades of my razor, whilst still allowing the blades to do their job and remove the hair as close to the skin as is possible. The gel was easy to rinse off the blades too, despite it being so thick.
After shaving and rinsing my legs, I was amazed to see there was no rashing up and my skin was amazingly smooth and soft. Even after a few hours there was no bad reaction in my skin, and it was still soft, smooth and felt moisturised. I was very impressed with this, as usually shaving gels do not give my skin a great reaction, but this one really did.
I am also impressed with the way that my partners face feels after he shaves using this gel. His skin is so smooth and nice to touch when he has used this, that I end up just randomly stroking his face, not that he seems to mind lol. I have been truly converted to a mans shaving gel, and even with both me and my partner using this gel (between us, its become pretty much daily!) a can of this shaving gel will last us around 2 months, which I think is very impressive.
You can buy this shaving gel in most stores these days, including Boots, Superdrug, Wilkinsons and some of the major supermarkets in the country. A can of this will cost you around £3 a can, but this can vary depending on where you buy it. Nearer to Christmas it can be bought as part of a gift set, which is usually a great way save money on products like these.
I give this shaving gel a 5 out of 5 and I totally recommend it, for women's legs and men's faces!
I never used to think about myself when it came to shaving foam and just stole my husbands, one of the ones he was using (there is generally 2 or 3 different ones on the go) was Nivea for men. A friends of ours bought him it as a present along with an aftershave balm although I have had a look at Boots website and the usual selling price is £3.69 for 200ml and it is on offer at £2 at the moment.
The Nivea shaving gel comes in a white tin with a clear plastic lid over the dispenser, The tin has the Nivea logo on the top made up of blue, mint and grey background with white and grey writing, you also have the information that this is chamomile and vitamin enriched and it says it is fragrance neutral which makes you question why this is for men?
On the rear of the tin is a number of headings;
Gentle shaving care - specially formulated to meet the needs of easily irritated and sensitive skin leaving skin soft, supple and smooth.
Caring protection - has advanced moisturising agents which protect against razor burn and moisture loss therefore improving skins condition.
Vitamin Enriched - Chamomile and Vitamin F
Directions - wet face, hold upright and dispense gel into hand, massage into skin and shave
I have used this product numerous times, it comes out of the tin with a press button release and does not dispense too much at a time which saves on wastage. I fined the gel to be easy to disperse over my legs and I don't seem to get any nicks when using it. I would say it does have a little smell but it's just a clean smell. This gel leaves my legs soft and I really don't understand why the product is aimed at men when really either can use this.
Definitely recommended by me although my husband says he is not so keen on it as he likes his shaving foam to smell a little.
Nivea is a well known brand which offers beauty products for men and women. A potential consumer has the option of deodorants, shower gels, face care products and other essential items.
*~*Nivea For Men (and women!)*~*
Whilst the main consumer focus is aimed at women, Nivea also have a few products that are suited to men. They can choose from various gels and creams that aide with shaving, facial cleansing and moisturising products and shower gels/deodorants. They currently have a few different shaving gels and creams on offer each for different skin types or containing different ingredients. One such product is the Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel which is of course aimed at men with sensitive skin.
This shaving gel promises to soothe and protect the skin whilst you shave and its Ultra Glide Technology allows your razor to glide along your skin without irritating or dragging. It is fragranced with a gentle, neautral aroma and is infused with chamomile and vitamin care to take care of your skin. Its forumla also claims to prevent nicks and cuts caused by your razor.
The shaving gel is housed within a tall, white and blue can. It is neautrally appealing with only the essential information present (the name, claims, directions for use and contact details). A clear, plastic lid sits on top of a large, push down dispenser. The gel is dispensed through a very small opening on the dispenser.
Mainly aimed at a man using this on the facial area, the face should be wet and then a small, hazelnut sized blob dispensed. Smooth over the facial hair until covered and proceed to shave as you normally would. It is recommended you follow up with the matching aftercare products.

A 200ml can of this gel can be picked up in chemists and supermarkets. It retails around £3.50 but currently on offer at £2.00 in Boots.
Whilst my fiance is reluctant to go near any of my beauty and shower products (through fear of getting his hand chopped off), I occasionally indulge in his if I cannot locate something I need. I think nothing of cleansing my body in Lynx shower gel! Both myself and my fiance have sensitive skin and although he isn't into taking care of his like I am, he does have a small collection of essential products. He doesn't like having too much stubble or facial hair and shaves regularly to get rid of it. I'm not keen on hairy faced men either so this is a relief! Despite buying him a really expensive, electrical razor 2years ago, he doesn't use it and insists on using either disposables or a Gillette Fusion one.
The 200ml can of Sensitive Shaving Gel from Nivea came in a set that I purchased for him at Christmas. I opted for the sensitive version to be kinder to his skin. It's a good sized can and I believe I paid £5.00 for the set which also had a shower gel and facial product in it so bargain considering the RRP! The can is plain looking but does the job. Its dispenser is easy to operate allowing quick and hassle free dispensing. Whilst this is mainly used for the purpose of my fiances shaving routine, I have been using it recently as I ran out of my shaving foam for my hairy bits! I will discuss both uses as best I can.
*~*For The Men*~*
Of course with this being aimed at a man, men will want to know how it is. I am regularly present when Keith is having a shave as I am usually in the bath trying to relax. Only a small amount is needed to cover his overgrown facial hair. He commented on how calming and soothing the gel felt as it made contact with his skin. It is pumped out a white gel but once it makes contact with wet skin, it immediately develops into a cream. His razor can swiftly go through the cream removing all the hairs. He taps his razor in running water after each stroke and the cream washes off taking the hairs with it. The result..soft and smooth skin which doesn't develop any redness or irritation!
Whilst Keiths skin is highly sensitive, he has never complained when using this gel. I have seen other gels which aren't aimed at sensitive skin, bring him out in sore red areas which looks very uncomfortable. To add a bit of longer hydration and moisturisation, Keith normally applies a small blob of the aftershave balm. That is about as far as his skincare routine goes!

The scent of this gel as opposed to many of my shaving gels is that it is completely inoffensive. To me, it smells light and gentle with a delicate soapy undertone. I have used this for my legs but I find it works incredibly well around my bikini area due to its sensitive nature. On my legs, I only need a tiny amount so I know I won't get told off for using too much. It foams up incredibly well feeling soft and luxurious and the calming scent makes for a pleasant shower experience. My Venus Razor goes through it with ease and more so with the vibrating aspect of it. As I always do, I rinse the head under the water each time and combined with my razor, this gel effectively removes all lengths of hairs and leaves my skin feeling smooth and never irritated.
Around my bikini line is sensitive and I find normally, scented gels or foams irritate it a little but applying a tiny blob of this works a treat. It goes on cool and spreads well leaving the area covered in a foamy mass. I don't get too worked up over this area so sometimes the hairs are a bit longer but finer than my leg hairs. The foam clings to them and a few light sweeps with the razor and everything comes off. The result is a smooth, hair free and non irritated area as lets face it..its one area you don't want to be irritated! I find this to be kinder to my skin as opposed to highly scented, ladies shaving gels.
This is a very neautral product that although aimed at men, could be used by a women if she runs out of her own shaving products. It is very gentle on the skin from when it is applied to when it is removed and leaves the skin soft, smooth and hydrated. Both my fiance and I recommend it.
Thanks for reading x
I suppose you could say I'm fortunate when it comes to hairy legs, or in my case the lack of. I'm very fair haired and very rarely have to shave, My husband on the other hand is dark and very bristly. He has endless amounts of shaving products and because his skin is very sensitive he has to use a very mild shaving foam/gel/cream. The latest he has been using, is this "Nivea for men sensitive shaving gel". Whilst in the bath I spotted it on the side and decided to give it a go on my legs, couldn't hurt, I decided that its all the same stuff at the end of the day, only a bit more fragranced for women.
-- The shaving gel --
The canister is white and blue stating "For Men" in capital letters, across the front. You get 200ml of extra gentle, subtle fragrance gel which contains Chamomile and Vitamin care which is specially developed to soothe irritated and sensitive skin while shaving. The canister states, the gel has ultra glide technology, effective razor glide, close and extra gentle shave and it helps protect against cuts and irritations.
-- If it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me --
So, I decided I would see if it worked just as well, on my legs, as it did on his face. I dispenced a small amount of gel into my hand, the gel is a pearlescent white in colour and has no scent, as far as I could tell. I proceeded to apply the gel to my wet legs, the gel lathered up very well and felt soft and creamy as I rubbed it all over. I didn't have to use much of the gel at all, I was suprised with how little I needed.
I then took my razor, beginning at the bottom of my leg and began to glide it slowly, in an upwards movement, until my leg was hair free. I repeated on the other leg, then rinsed and washed it all off.
Looking at my legs afterwards there were no cuts or gashes and they felt very smooth and silky. I never experienced any itchiness or stinging whilst using the gel and didn't have any irritation on my legs after using it, just a nice soft and smooth result. I was quite impressed with the gel, it seems to have done everything that it claims for his face, on my legs also. I have to say, that in order to save a bit of money, I will probably continue to use it, he'll never know.
-- Over all --
I will use his gel again, I may have to let him know, eventually. But as it only costs £2.00 from Boots at the moment, I'm sure he wont mind.
I give this gel 5 stars because it works a treat on my legs and I didn't have to buy it.
Thank you for reading my review which may also be posted on Ciao
This Nivea Sensitive Shaving Gel is a nourishing shaving gel and according to the manufacturer it contains a special technology called Ultra Glide what allows this extremely smooth shaving cream to shave with less irritation. This shaving cream also contains natural ingredients such as chamomile and liquorice root extract (smoothes and relaxes your skin), which gets very quickly absorbed into your skin so it works more effectively. It gives you an active protection while you shave, so you have less chance at redness, burning and itching. It is skin friendly and dermatological approved and has a neutral fragrance.
It is preferred that you shave in the morning, because then your skin is more relaxed. Make your skin before shaving wet and when you have a beard or stubbles, then especially very wet. It is even better for you to shave after showering, because the hot water and steam from the shower and makes the hairs softer. Spray some shaving cream in your hands and spread it over your damp skin. Rinse your blade while shaving several times under running water, so keep it good clean. Scraps of hair and shaving cream makes shaving harder and give more chance of cuts. Rinse your face thoroughly with water to remove remaining gel and stubble.
The shaving cream is in a predominantly white metal canister and has dark blue accents. This contrasts with most Nivea products who are are usually dark. The canister is closed with a white spray nozzle containing a clear plastic cap. On the front you will find the brand and product name. Also on the front indicates that the shaving cream softens and protects with the ultra glide technology. The back features product information, instructions and ingredients list. It has a capacity of 200ml.
The shaving cream has a very light floral fragrance, but you can almost call it odourless. And after use there no odour. The shaving cream is white.
It's a nice nearly odourless shaving cream. It is easy to apply over the skin. It also feels nice and soft on the skin. I had no burning or itching after use and had no red spots. I can do almost one month with it, with using it daily. The price is around 4 pounds.
I absolutely adore this stuff and it is not over the top to call it a life saver. Prior to finding Nivea's Sensitive shaving gel, my shaving experiences were probably so bloody and graphic as to give Freddy Krueger nightmares. Anyway, I can remeber how I ended up with this, but i'm glad I did.
Maade from natural ingredients with Chamomile and what Nivea calls Vitamin Care. It posseses what can only be described as a neutral smell, if at all. An almost colourless gel, you need only a small conker sized amount to lather your face and proceed. The results are exactly as expected. No more spilt blood or razor burn, just a smooth, well moisturised, clean shaved face. You almost feels as though you are left with a protective layer left on your skin that seems to cool your face rather than irritatae it. After shaving I also add the balm from the same range.
Retailing at around the £3 - £4 mark in most of the major retailers which you could argue is a bit more than the competition, the can contains around about 200ml which with regular usage usually lasts me about a month. The distinctive white can is easy enough to spot amongst the multicoloured efforts of it's competitors. As someone who has sensitive skin, I cannot recommend the range enough from the cleanser to the balm and especially to this. I shudder to think what sort of state my face would have been in had I not found it.
This is my preferred choice of shving foam and out of the last ten purchases, about eight have been this brand.
It costs me on average about £3.50-£4.00 per can and lasts me for about two months. I shave on average about twice a week (and use an electric razor on other days) so it lasts me a fair while.
I think it does the job well and has a number of advantages. Firstly it's for sensitive skin, which is something that I have, and I think it treats my skin well. I find that it doesn't irritate my skin and leaves it feeling smooth afterwards. Certain ones with perfume in them can make the skin itch and burn afterwards. This, does no such thing and it really gives me a comfortable shave.
I find that it's a sensible price for what it does. I've bought cheaper brands before and I find that they don't perform to the same high quality and leave either a rough shave, or leave stubble on the skin which this brand would have removed. In other words, it just seems to have a little bit of extra work in it which allows it to perform a thorough job.
One of the things I do find leading on from the last point is that this does work well when brands work well in tandem. It's all very well and good having a great shaving gel but you need to have a good razor also otherwise you won't get the same results, and the effort the shaving cream is making to reduce irritation, is ruined by having a cheap disposable razor for example. My point is, this is a very good product, but it also needs a good razor in order to do the job.
I can only think of one major downside, which is the quality of the packaging. When you spray the foam into your hands, it keeps on slowly seeping out into the plastic cap that you put back onto the can. When you come to use it next time it's covered in mess which can be a pain and look unsightly. Also, if you don't shake it violently before using then it can come out like a liquid and not a gel at all.
That's just something to be aware of though. All in all if you have the right tools, then it can do a wonderful job, and is a great product to use.
Nivea For Men Sensitive Shaving Gel
Description: Brand: Nivea / Type: Shaving Gels / Creams / Nivea for Men Sensitive Shaving Gel is specifically formulated to meet the needs of easily irritated and sensitive skin. It provides a closer smoother yet gentle shave leaving your skin soft supple and smooth.
Mrs Assasin bought this for me when I first used it because I have quite sensitive skin and find that shaving can cause irritation and soreness. I have tried quite a few brands but keep going back to this one because in my opinion, it is the best. Unfortunately, we go through more that necessary because she insists on using it to shave her legs too!
A tin of this costs around £3.99 from local chemists and supermarkets, which is a shame because it isn't the cheapest of products. It does last well though and a little goes a long way. It comes in a white tin with the Nivea label in blue on the front.
What I like about this product is that it doesn't have a scent and it doesn't sting my skin at all. Although it is a gel, it is thin enough to rub all over and gently froths up without feeling sticky. Plus, it prevents that awful stinging and burning feeling that you can end up with, if you are unlucky enough to have sensitive skin.
It also helps me to have a nice clean shave and when I have finished, my face feels smooth and irritation free - exactly what I want.
I highly recommend this product, yes it is more expensive than some, but when you compare it, it comes out on top and I will definitely be buying it again.
