Try it the Menthol is the best...

First tried this when I lved in NYC and been hooked ever since, I have a hard beard but this enables me in conjunction with a mac3 to obtain a close shave feeling fresh every time. Boots sold it for a while but seem to have dropped it now!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Shaving is common event for a majority of men and women. My particular concern has always been with regards to the type of blades that I use and my choice has always been the range from Gillette. Today I use the Sensor and I am thoroughly pleased with it. However when it comes to the shaving foam I have never really been particular. My conception is that once the blade is of a good quality then the quality of the foam, gel or cream becomes rather irrelevant. Thus I have used many different types of foams with little attention to the brand. However my outlook and thinking has somewhat changed after I used Noxzema Menthol Shave Foam. I shave everyday and from Monday to Friday I shave in one motion i.e. downwards. On weekends I shave in two motions i.e. downwards and then again upwards. Everyone has there own choice in the frequency of changing of blades. I personally use one blade for just over a week and try to make the most out of them. A new blade will work very effectively for the first two/three days and then after that more pressure is required and the shave will not be as close. What I have experienced with Noxzema's Shaving Foam is that I am getting a much closer shave even after using the blade for three days. This very fact naturally implies that the shaving foam is responsible for this. Further when you start using a new blade usually your skin turns a bit reddish in patches for a short period of time. This is due to the extra close attention your skin gets from the brand new blade. With Noxzema this has not been the case. When one encounters the name Noxzema you naturally think cosmetic and skin care. My wife and my mother use Noxzema cream in those blue jars. Therefore I was quite surprised to see a shaving foam bearing the Noxzema brand. What caught my attention was firstly the can. It is in a lovely sky blue colour and stood out amongst the other shaving foams, on the shelf. On closer examinatio
n the words "Concentrated for Closer Shaves" and "Dermatalogist Tested" encouraged me enough to give it a try. The fact that I was already aware of the Noxzema name made purchasing this foam much easier. The price is rather high at £5.20 for the 300m. can. However the fact that this shaving foam is highly concentrated means basically that you only need to apply a small amount to experience a quality shave. Therefore this 300ml. can would probably last you about one and half times or maybe even double that of your regular shaving foam. If you take this into account then the price is reasonable considering the quality of the product and the comfort that you will undoubtedly achieve whilst shaving. Noxzema Shaving Foam is available in both regular and menthol. The thing that I like about the menthol is that it leaves your skin with a lovely tingling sensation after shaving and this lasts for at least a half and hour, before eventually wearing off. It helps create the freshness that we all want to have first thing in the morning. As is the norm nowadays this shaving foam also contains certain ingredients that help your skin. The fact that Noxzema have been engaged in the skin care business for over a hundred years, would certainly give them some advantage over the other manufacturers in this aspect. So finally this is one shaving foam that I will surely consider using in the foreseable future. Unforuntately it is not commonly available and the only major outlet that I have seen it being sold at is Boots.

There are few shops that keep this shaving foam on the shelves and you never see it advertised. This is a great shame as it provides an excellent shave and a really dense foam that helps ease the razor across your face and to soften bristle. The can design is not very attractive being blue or white depending on the scent chosen. Personally I prefer the non menthol version in the white can. The scent is unusual and a little clinical but is not overpowering. This foam is imported from the United States and this probably contributes to its rather high price, however when you get used to using it you realise that a little foam goes a long way. In a market that is moving towards gels for shaving this poroduct is a classic - it is a shame it is not more readily available.

And so to the third attempt to write this opinion in the hope of gaining some extra reads! This is review is for all those who, like me, suffer with revoltingly sensitive skin that goes red and bleeds whenever they put razor to skin. It was January 2000 and I was on holiday in Jamaica, and as is usual with me, I had forgotten to pack one thing ? my shaving foam. Now, due to my skin problem I hate shaving anyway, and would usually jump at the opportunity not to do it, however when the sun is shining and the chance of a natural tan occurs, the last thing I wanted to have was a white chin when I finally got home and shaved. My friend who was with me took to a moment of sympathy and offered me the use of his. This was the first time I had ever encountered Noxzema. It's made by Proctor and Gamble (PJS waits for the shouting to stop) and is by far the best shaving foam I have ever, EVER, used. It comes in three flavours, Original, Menthol and Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E. Now, over the last two years that I've only used the Menthol, and up until a month ago I had no idea that the third one even existed. This took another holiday, this time to Italy, and the usual error of forgetting the foam once again. The foam is incredibly thick, creamy and rich and coats the skins very well. It is very smooth and even with a cheap and nasty disposable razor, the shave is incredible. The two flavours I've used both have very different feelings on the skin when you use them. The Menthol gives a strange, warming tingle to the face that makes you feel so clean and refreshed once you've finished shaving. The Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E is now my favourite. It is incredibly gentle on the skin, and once you've shaved it leaves you feeling soft, clean and closely shaved. I presume it's the Vitamin E that makes the skin feel so good, but the smell of the Cocoa Butter is also very ni
ce and is not at all over powering, unlike the menthol, which makes you smell like chewing gum for hours, some may find the smell of this a little too strong. Though it's great to use when you have blovked up nose! My girlfriend also loved the Menthol foam for her shaving (she doesn't have a beard or moustache problem!), and has now become a convert of the Cocoa Butter, she says it gives her the nicest shave she's ever had. Now here's the technical stuff you may want to know: Menthol Ingredients: Aqua, Ammonium Palmitate, Isobutane, Ammonium Stearate, Polysorbate-20, Polysorbate-60, Triethanolamine, Sorbital, Ammonium Myristate, Propylene Glycol, Petrolatum, Propane, Menthol, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera, Ammonium Oleate, Camphor, Sodium Metasilicate, Butane, Eucalyptol, Eugenol, Methylparaben, Isoprobyl Alcohol, Mentha Piperita, Propylparaben, Styrax Benzon. Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E ingredients: Aqua, Ammonium Palmitate, Ammonium Stearate, Polysorbate-20, Polysorbate-60, Triethanolamine, Sorbital, Ammonium Myristate, Petrolatum, Propane, Cetyl Alcohol, Ammonium Laurate, Parfum Theobroma Cacao, Tocopheryl Acetate, Camphor, Sodium Metasilicate, Butane, Eucalyptol, Eugenol, BHT, CI 47005, CI 14700. And if any of that means a thing to anyone, well, good for you. Up until last Sunday the only place I had ever found Noxzema Menthol was in Boots, and since returning from Italy I have hunted high and low both online and in all high street pharmaceuticals to find out whether I could buy the Cocoa Butter version in this country. I had just about given up hope when a freak accident with a roast chicken resulted in my visiting our local Tesco. There in all it's glory, in with all the shaving foams, was the pale blue can of Menthol, and next to it (a rousing sound of heavenly trumpets was heard) in a shaft of golden light, sat the yellow canned Cocoa Butter & Vitamin E. I could have cried with joy.
This stuff knocks spots off of the like of King of Shaves, Gilette Sensitive etc. It is in a league of it's own, a superior league of it's own. The price of this gem does vary but it shouldn?t cost you much more than £3.50 a can, I think it was £3.39 in Tesco and £3.49 in Boots, but hey, who would quibble over 10 pence when you know you'll get the best damn shave you?ve ever had. This stuff really did change the way I looked at shaving. I can now shave whenever I like and my skin does not react at all. King of Shaves - PAH! Noxzema is the only way forward.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

My brother actually bought me a can of Noxzema as a birthday present; it was like an advert, big brother passing on the secret knowledge to the young shaver. He told me that after I shaved with it, I would understand. Indeed. The menthol version is really the only thing that wakes me up of a morning, and there is truly nothing like it for a smooth painless shave. I don't have a clue why - it's rich and creamy and smells good, but quite why it works as well as it does is beyond me. You slap it on, and the blade glides over your face like a feather. I went on a two week holiday in Namibia this year staying in lodges and tents where there was rarely hot water, and yet Noxzema still worked. I'm sorry if this sounds like an advert, but whatever you're shaving with, change it now. You will not, I guarantee, be disappointed.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Picture the scene - you've got a hot date with that gorgeous bird you met last week. Obviously, you want to make yourself into the woman-magnet that you potentially are so you've got to look your smoother-than-smooth best. New top, jeans ironed for the first time in a month, your special 'pulling undies' on - just in case. A shower, brush your teeth and then the shave. You're using that cheap shaving foam your mum got you for your birthday - BIG mistake. An hour or so after you've shaved, your neck resembles a punnet of strawberries, such is its bright red hue and speckled appearance. You don't stand a chance with her now, mate, coz you look like a right geek with your red neck. Shoulda bought Noxzema shave foam. OK, it put you off when you noticed that it's almost twice as expensive as most other shaving foams or gels or what-have-you. For once, with Noxzema, you really do get what you pay for. In my opinion this is THE best shaving product on the market and is especially recommended if you suffer from that horrific 'razor-burn' that'll leave you lookin' like a redneck. It's got a lovely thick, rich lather and your razor positively glides over your face, making shaving almost enjoyable. For an added bonus go for the Menthol which I have always found much more soothing as it leaves your skin feeling very cool and refreshed. The can lasts absolutely ages so it's actually better value than it first appears. Buy a small can first (about £2.50) and if you don't like it, I'll consider giving you your money back myself. Well, I won't, but it really is a fantastic shave - one you've used Noxzema you won't want to use another shave foam. It really is the best.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

I can’t believe that no-one has reviewed this yet (or am I looking in the wrong place again). Much has been made out of using a quality blade, or whether an electric razor is of any use whatsoever, apart from the fact that you feel obliged to use it because your wife/girlfriend/mother has bought you one for your birthday (Incidentally, ever had the battery run out on you mid shave –OUCH!!) Anyway, I’m here to congratulate not criticise. It might well have been the “pencil upright” gimmick that attracted me, but either way I’ve never looked back. Doing it for me at present is the Menthol version (Blue container) an absolutely lush shave, and the menthol foam next to the skin certainly helps to wake me up in the morning. It’s more expensive than your average shaving foam, but as a real quality feel about it, and lasts considerably longer. As that American Bloke said, “I liked it so much, I bought the company” Well I didn’t but I went and bought some more when the first one ran out, and I wouldn’t have anything else these days.
