A little expensive but a really nice treat.

A while ago I bought my boyfriend some of these original source shaving foams and decided to try them myself when I stay round his.

This shaving gel comes in a fairly standard aerosol style can but with a stylish brushed steel exterior and branding labels across the outside. The main colour across the whole packaging is yellow, predictably, which does a good job at placing the natural ingredients at the forefront of the product.

The shaving foam comes in the form of a gel which when dispensed with the pump is a yellow colour. This then foams when rubbed or smoothed across the skin to created a thick and rich white coloured lather. The lemon flavouring is really distinct right from the moment you squeeze it out. It has a really punchy, citrus smell to it which smells almost good enough to eat.

Lemon isn't my favourite scent and I have to say I prefer the mint flavoured one of these but the lemon is still pretty good. It has a really refreshing smell to it and always leaves my shaved skin feeling super fresh and clean. I have found with the mint one that there is a little bit of irritation but actually with this one I haven't found that at all which is a benefit.

This shaving gel costs around £2.50 for a 200ml can. This is on the more expensive end of what I would be willing to pay for a shave gel but for something that is a novelty or a gift it is perfect. I would personally love the receive it as a gift along with other products from the range as it does have a real luxury feel to it.

Overall, lemony fresh shave gel but perhaps a little too expensive for most people?

      Disadvantages

It may not come as a surprise to some of you that I am feeling fruity. I have recently got into toiletries in a big way and have become rather knowledgeable on quite a few ranges, especially Avon, Lush and my newest passion Original Source. It used to be the case that I used rather cheap smellies from Asda. Consequently, I found washing, shaving, showering and the like a rather mundane chore. Now I love it and have rather a large collection of shower gels, soaps and so on. I am a bit of a big Lush fan, but I wasn’t too impressed with their deodorants. I like the Yassou fruity body sprays from Avon and used those for a while, then progressed to their On Duty deodorant. After getting my free samples from Original Source, I decided to spend my £10 Boots gift voucher on products in the range. I bought the lemon and orange shower gels, the orange conditioner and a lemon deodorant for the money – not bad, when you consider the Original Source stuff is a very high quality brand. Fruity smells and fragrances are my favourite and I love anything lemon. I bought the spray can of Original Source Tea Tree and Lemon anti-perspirant deodorant for £1.99. The can is rather pretty, with a yellow see-through lid and a bottle in varying shades of yellow. It certainly stands out amongst the other duller looking deodorants of other brands! It claims to be refreshing, quick drying and offers 24-hour protection. It contains lemon oil and tea tree oil in its ingredients and smells similar to the shower gel, so if you liked that, you’ll like this! I think this is wonderful stuff and so do my husband (who’s a fussy bugger at the best of times) and my eldest daughter. In fact, I realised I’d better get an opinion done today, when I shook the bottle and discovered it had nearly all gone! But I have had the bottle for probably six weeks, so it has lasted well. Most of my deodorants are quite girlie, mayb
e peach or a general pink and floral smell, so hubby avoids them. This one he loves, so that’s a high recommendation in itself. The fragrance is a basic lemon, so it’s not too girlie, it’s fine for both genders and any age. I have quite sensitive skin and this has been fine on me, as well as my daughter who’s almost twelve. It is quick drying, as it says on the can and doesn’t sting or irritate. I haven’t found it leaves any marks on my clothes either, but I’m not sure its effective for the whole day. I tend to spray this on twice a day, but that might just be me being over-cautious and ensuring I don’t stink! The best thing about this deodorant is its fresh lemon smell. Like the shower gel, it is a lovely aroma and one that wakes you up in the morning. It is nice to know there are real oils in there too and it’s not synthetic. Original Source is very proud of its claim to use 100% natural essential oils and the products aren’t tested on animals. The Original Source anti-perspirant deodorants are available in both roll-ons and spray cans. The roll-ons are £1.49 for 50ml and there are three varieties – Tea Tree and Mint, Tea Tree and Lavender, Tea Tree and Lemon. The spray cans are £1.99 for 150ml and come in Tea Tree and Mint, Tea Tree and Lemon, Tea Tree and Orange. So to sum up, it is a very good product. It smells gorgeous, it works well (although maybe not quite twenty-four hours), it lasts a long time and is good value for the money.

Do you really want to smell like a lemon curd pie when you shave in a morning? Use this product if you do! I'm a big fan of Original Source products, as you all know by now. I've made it my life's aim to try and review all the Original Source products for you here at DOOYOO (!!), and I'm not doing badly so far! However, the lemon products must be my least favourite. Think about it, lemon ... mmm, citrus, refreshing, sour and sharp, ultra-refreshing. Surely lemon would make a great shaving gel, giving you the refreshment you need first thing in the morning, and that citrus sharpness will open up the pores ready for a good cutting? Absolutely not. We've been conned, but not by Original Source. All Original Source products use essential oils, instead of synthetic fragrances. Thus we have the real lemon in this product. And I hate to tell you but unlike all those synthetic lemon products on the market... the real thing smells like lemon curd! The shaving gel is a lovely lemon colour. It's thick (if a little lumpy, all Orig. Source shaving gels suffer from this problem), and the fragrance is strong and last longs. It does it job well, allowing a good close shave with little friction. It also contains tea tree oil, which acts as a soothing antiseptic. The packaging looks good, coming in it's distinctive style can with a brief history of Original Source products on the back. They are a tad expensive compared to other shaving gels, and you can expect to pay around £2 to £2.50 for a can. Supermarkets do seem to have offers on them every so often though, so it may be worth looking out and then buying in bulk. But at the end of the day, you're going to go around smelling like a lemon curd tart if you use this. And you don't want that guys, do you??
