      A great shaving gel.

My boyfriend really loves Original Source shower gels, so for his last birthday I bought him some of the other products from their range. One of those was this mint shaving gel which I was actually pretty excited about using myself as the mint shower gel is one of my favourite things from their range. The foam comes in a brushed steel effect can which has a black and green label with the branding on it. The can is 200ml so a medium size and it has a standard pump at the top which pushes out the product. The shaving foam is a gel type one. When you squeeze the pump at the top a sharp minty coloured gel comes out easy and has an instantly fragrant smell which hits you right away. Just like the shower gel it has a a really strong and punchy smell to it which I absolutely love. The gel also lathers really easily and is smoothly applied to legs or underarms. The mint and tea tree is instantly refreshing to the skin and helps to cool down if you are in a hot bath. I do find, however, that it isn't great for irritated skin or effective against shaving rashes. It is weird because the cooling effect is helpful initially but I find the strong mintyness of it can irritate my skin a bit and leave it looking red in places. I do love, however, that these products contain natural ingredients as they are really good for your skin. My legs always feel super fresh and clean after using this which is really nice. It also has a really nice rich, thick consistency which makes shaving much easier as you can easily see where your razor has been already. This shaving gel does come in at around £2.50 for a 200ml which is on the expensive side for a shaving foam. That said, as a novelty item or gift it is perfect and I do thoroughly enjoy using it. In this case more money does actually buy you better quality but I'm not 100% convinced it is worthwhile buying it all the time. Overall, a great shaving gel but it might cost you a little bit more.

      A fantastic shaving gel

Original source tea tree and mint shaving gel is always something I associate with male shaving which is probably something to do with the masculine packaging but that doesn't mean it is any less effective when used for shaving my legs. It comes in a metal tin that is silver in colour with black labeling and green writing. I have no idea why they brand it so masculine as it is one of the best shaving gels on the market and I am sure a lot of women will let the packaging put them off from buying it. As soon as you squirt the gel the smell of tea tree will hit you. It is really potent and the smell of mint is somewhat lost in it. I personally like the smell of tea tree as it smells fresh and clean to my nose and it is something that I enjoy putting on my skin as I find it to be very soothing which is great when I am going to be sloughing off the top layers of my skwith shaving. The gel turns into a foam when it is mixed with water and it expands really well and a tiny little bit of gel will get you quite a lot of foam. On average I find that I usually need about 3 or 4 squirts of the gel to do one entire leg from top to bottom so it's not bad and although it's not the best in terms of longvevity it's certainly not the wrost and a can will last me about a month with regular use. The foam is of a really good quality and it feels rich and creamy on my skin. I find that I can get a really good close shave with it but it also feels like it leaves a decent barrier against my skin. After shaving stubble is really at a minimum although I do still feel a little bit if I onyl go over my legs the once. Although it is a good gel/foam the real reason I buy this is for the cooling sensation it gives which for me with sensitive skin is both a relief and also a lovely sensation after getting out of a hot bath or shower. It actually leaves my skin tingling and the air in the bathroom feels cool againt my skin even on a warm day. This feeling lasts long enough for the skin on my legs to calm down after being shaved and when I put on moisturiser the feeling is intensified. I find that I get less bumps and rashes when using this gel than with most others which I put down to the tea tree. One of the best things about this gel is the price which is only £1.50 for a 200ml bottle in my local discount chemist chain. The only problem that I have with it is that it seems to be becoming more difficult to get ahold of and although I bought a few bottles the last time it was on offer I haven't seen it back in stock and I have now run out so I am keeping my fingers crossed they get some more in before the summer.

        Disadvantages

An amazing shaving foam that is well worth the money

Original source are by far and away my favourite cheap and cheerful brand of toiletries. They are fantastic quality and the best thing is that they don't cost the earth to buy. My favourite shower gel in their range has to be the tea tree and mint which is fantastic in warm weather for freshing you up and they also do a shaving foam in the same tea tree and mint formula. The bottle is silver with big bold writing on it and it definately stands out on the shop shelf and has the added benefit of looking great in my bathroom along with the other products in the range. It costs around £2.50 for a 200ml bottle but I often spot it cheaper in so called budget stores so it pays to have a look around as I only paid £1.50 for my last bottle. It is actually a gel which turns into a foam when wet and massaged into the skin. The foaming of the gel is excellent and better than a lot of more expensive brands where the foam is liquidy and not very substantial. The first thing that you will notice is the smell of the gel which is just like the shower gel and a really potent tea tree and mint smell which may not be to everyone's taste but it is mine and I love the smell and always think it smells clean and fresh. The second thing you will probably notice is the tingling sensation it leaves on the skin. For those people who have used the shower gel they will know it leaves your skin tingly and almost cold feeling when washed off and the shaving foam is exactly the same. When washed off my skin feels really cool and it goes a long way in reducing the burning sensation from shaving. Because it foams so well I do have to go over my skin a couple of times to make sure my razor has managed to get to all the stubble underneath the foam but as the gel is so nice to use I don't actually mind this and besides I don't feel like I have properly shaved unless there is a good lather on my face. As well as minimising the burning sensation straight after shaving this is the only shaving foam that I have used that actually feels like it is protecting my skin and it definately minimises the rash I always get after shaving. It doesn't get rid of it but when using this and the balm that goes with it I would say I get about a 50 per cent reduction in the rash compared to other shaving products. When using this in the monings it really does help to wake me up and invigorate me and although on a cold morning it can be a bit uncomfortable having my skin being so cold in summer it is absolutely amazing. I would definately recommend this shaving gel to people as I think it is fantastic and for the price it beats other so called premium products hands down.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Certainly one of the better shaving gels around for me, the cooling effect lasts.

I will begin by stating that the packaging of the Original Source tea tree and mint shaving gel has altered. Instead of the vibrant green colour (the lemon version came in a bright yellow canister) the gel now comes in a more sophisticated brushed steel effect can with black and green labelling. When the product was sold in the old packaging i never bought it, so perhaps it was the new branding that attracted me to the Original Source shaving gel. The gel comes in a 200ml can and when you begin applying the gel to your face you can immediately smell the tea tree and mint. The mint is very refreshing on the skin, and as shaving gel is usually cool to the touch, it must be the ingredients that give an added cooling and soothing effect to the skin. I often find that shaving irritates my skin and i think the cooling effect of this product help reduce the soreness after shaving. Original Source produce naturally inspired products, and there are said to be over 3700 mint leaves within this product, which I have no reason to argue with. If you don't think the tea tree and mint one is for you, you could always try the lemon shave gel. I am happy with the way the gel lathers up and it is easy to apply and is of a rich consistency. The gel doesn't clog up my shaver, and leaves no scummy marks when rinsing the sink out. The tingling sensation on your skin is quite unique, and certainly helps wake you up in the morning before work! Original Source shave gel can be bought in a 200ml canister for around the £2.50 mark from all good supermarkets and chemists. I would definately recommend this product to those who may experience a 'hot' sensation when shaving and suffer from redness. This isn't to say it will definately benefit those with sensitive skin, but it certainly has improved my shaving routine. *This review also appears on Ciao under the username danielclark691.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          try it from their website

Original source are a company specialising in cosmetics which contain no animal products and have not been tested on animals. At this point quite a few people will zone out. "why should i waste my money on something all natural and not tested on animals?". Frankly read on and ill tell you. Firstly the shaving foam is not bad value at all, at around £1.60 for 100ml it is quite competitively priced. Also it foams up far more than cheaper brands and as such you will only need a tiny squirt on your hand to do your whole face, this way a can will last you ages. The all natural ingrediants which people may feel are a waste are in fact amazing, the mint almost burns, but in a pleasant way, it makes your whole face tingle. I would reccommend having a wash with hot water and then using this as the feeling is absolutely sensational. This really does help me to wake up in the morning, especially when followed by one of the shower gels of the same brand. The foam is nice and thick and makes it easy to give a nice clean shave as long as your razor is up to the job. The foam holds all the stuble and shaves away nice and cleanly, making it easy to see what youre up to. For those of you who are unconvinced the orional source website usually has samples on offer for many of its products so why not drop in and request one of these.

            A great shaving gel!!

Original Source products are FAB!!! I recently purchased this item as it was recommended by my mum, she claimed that it left a tingly sensation after shaving, a few days later, ironically really, it was on offer so I decided to give it a go. Me and my boyfriend are both hooked! The smell is fresh and minty and it really does leave your skin tingly. The gel costs around 2-3 pounds normally however I got a bargain and got it for 1 pound in morrisons!! I have stocked up as its such a great product. The gel comes in a metal like bottle with a buttoned top which you need to press to release the gel. It has a lid on it which can easily be pulled off so beware when leaving this iteam in cupboards where children may have access. The bottle is around 200ml's but has lasted us for ages. No need to buy seperate products any more, both me and my boyfriend use this as it is unisex!! Try it, its great!! xxx

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

I usually use Gillette for women shaving gel, but my husband was using Original Source tea tree and mint shaving gel, so I thought I would try some of his. The original mint source range of products is inspired by the bush remedies of Ellen Wakeman, daughter of missionaires in New South Wales. This product use's natural oils and not synthetic fragrances. It is not tested on animals either which is good. It come's in a 200ml can which is green in colour with a clear lid. The can stands out because of the colour of it. All the writing on the front is in black and the tea tree and mint is written in a red box. The nozzle is really easy to hold down so the gel comes out really easy. The gel is dark green in colour and is quite thick in consistency. Once you rub it on to your skin it changes to white. The gel is really soft to touch. To use this shaving gel, wet your skin with warm water. I do my legs in the shower as it is easier. Then squirt the gel in to your hand and rub in to the required area. Shave and then rinse off. I find it rinses off really well. Once you have rinsed it off, your legs felt really cold and it made me go all cold inside. It has a zingy never felt before experience for the most refreshing and stimulating shave you have ever had. This is definitely true. You don't have to use a lot in one go either as it foams up really well. I just squirted a bit out but when I first used it I squirted too much out. Obviously this shaving gel smells of mint. It's quite an overpowering smell too, so if you don't like the smell of mint then you won't like this at all. As soon as you take the lid off, the smell hits you. With it been a strong minty smell it wakes you up if you a re feeling tired. After using this you will be wide awake. I bought it when I was shopping in Morrions and it cost me £2.99, which is quite expensive compared to other shaving gels that you can get. It is worth the money though and I would buy it again. It also last's for ages with hardly having to use much. You can buy it from any supermarket, Body Care and Boots. The downside to this shaving gel is that once you have used it and put the lid back on, some of the gel leaks out of the nozzle. It did not irratate me at all so will be good for people with sensitive skin. I thought it might have irratated me actually because when I used the tea tree and mint shower gel, that did irratate me. I used it on my legs, bikini line and under arms with no problems at all. Both men and women can use this, but when I bought it in Morrisons it was with all the other men's shaving gels. I recommend this gel to everyone who loves the smell of mint!!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

For those of you that have read my other Original Mint Source opinion, you will have perhaps worked out that I have become addicted to them, so I am always on the look out for new Original Source Mint products. I came across Original Mint Source Tea Tree & Mint Shave Gel. I had been on the lookout for a good shaving foam for a while now and decided to have a quick peek on the Original Source website to see if there was such a thing as a shaving foam. I was so happy when I spotted quite a few, but the Mint one sounded more tempting, due to the experiences of the roll on and the shampoo in the same flavour. On my next visit to Savers, I decided to keep an eye out for it. Unfortunately they didn’t sell it, as most cheap shops don’t stock it, but you can buy it from big supermarkets such as Tesco, Waitrose, Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Somerfield and Sainsbury to name a few. I spotted it on the shelf in Tesco. It’s not hard to miss. The packaging is green with the words ‘Original Mint Source Shave Gel’ in huge black letters on the front. There is also a red box with the words ‘Tea Tree & Mint’ in. It is quite a big can and has a clear top. It also says ‘It’s the essential oils that make the difference’. This shaving foam stays true to its word, as do the other Original Source products. Your experience with this shaving foam can only be described as ‘A zingy never felt before experience for the most refreshing and stimulating shave you have ever had’ The one I brought came in a 200ml can for £2.99 but you can also buy a 100ml can for £1.49 from Tesco, Boots, Superdrug or Morrisons. As you can see you are much more likely to find a 200ml can than a 100ml can. The 100ml can is travel sized and is great for weekends away or overnight stays. The prices are fantastic seeing that they can last for months and months. This Shaving Foam contains the essential oils - Tea Tree Oil, which is a natural antiseptic, and Peppermint Oil, which is stimulating, cooling and reviving. This product uses natural oils not synthetic fragrances. It is also not tested on animals. The zingy smell of mint together with the calming benefits of tea tree gives this shave gel the combination that mint source fans have come to love. The oils provide a stimulating shave experience that will wake up even the sleepiest individual and cure a hangover. Now I don’t know about curing a hangover but it most certainly will wake up the sleepiest person, as you will see below. When using this product, only squirt out a tiny droplet of gel into your hands as a little can go a long long way. Oh yes!!! It comes out the can in a gel format and you massage it into your hands and you’re left with masses of peppermint smelling foam. One 2p size of gel can last for 2 legs. That’s how powerful this stuff is. As you can see that the can is 200ml, you’re right in thinking it will last a very long time. I have been using it for about 3 months now and it still feels very full. Of course on the first time of using this, (being the Original Source fan that I am), I decided to use a lot of gel and the aroma of peppermint could be smelt downstairs, perhaps even down the other end of the street hehe. Once massaged all over my legs, I started to feel a refreshing and tingly sensation. I shaved it all off and I felt as if my legs were in a freezer. Not the same kind of freezer when I used the shampoo but this felt colder. I walked out the bathroom and for the next half an hour (No I’m not kidding) my legs were tingling, refreshing, zingy, and freezing with a strong aroma of peppermint. Everywhere I went I left a trail of peppermint smell. Who needs an air freshener when you’ve got this???? I had to wrap my legs up in a towel for half an hour to keep them warm. The coldness is definite ly enough to wake up a very exhausted person. So use this in the morning before you start your day and you will be more awake and alert than anybody else. Now I’ve learnt my lesson, I only ever use a small amount of gel. I still get a cold, tingly, refreshing sensation as I did the first time I used it, except the coldness isn’t as extreme. I suppose the best time to use this is in summer in a hot country, or even a volcano hehe, then you can use as much gel, as you like, knowing that you will be cooled down. OOOOOH, I’m getting the shivers just thinking of it!!!!!! The only disadvantages about this product (yes I’ve found some) are: the can tends to get rusty around the bottom after a while and when I put the lid on, it tends to leak out the nuzzle. I don’t know why this is as I clean the top before I put the lid on. Legs can get too cold if you use too much. The advantages are: Only 1 droplet of gel is needed at any one time as it goes a long way, a lovely strong peppermint aroma, cheap as it lasts a long time, cools legs after a shave, tingly, refreshing sensation. Can be used on sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and most shaving foams / gels tend to irritate my skin, but I have had no problems with this shave gel. I can also use it under my arms and on my bikini line with no irritations. Overall this is the best shaving gel I have ever tried and I might consider trying the other flavours in the Original Source range when this has ran out.

                    Advantages

                    Disadvantages

Having tried and loved Original Source shower gels I was tempted by this shaving gel on offer in Asda. I think I paid £2 for a 200 ml can of it, which was cheaper than the other shaving gels available. Packaging: The can is quite attractive in my opinion. It?s a nice green colour, getting lighter at the top with a transparent pale green plastic lid that you can see the nozzle through. It would go really nice in my boyfriend's bathroom, which has a mint green ceiling. Contents: This shaving gel contains tea tree oil, known for its antiseptic properties; peppermint oil known for its invigorating effects; and lavender oil, which is very soothing and gentle. Smell: I love the smell of the Original Source Tea Tree & Mint shower gel so I was not disappointed by the smell of this product. It smells a bit like Softmints to me, a sweet yet strong aroma. If you don't like mint you won't like this product. Performance: Warning! A little of this shaving gel goes a long way. I am prone to squirting too much and end up covered in the stuff. I would recommend pressing lightly to avoid having enough gel to shave a Gorilla! Saying that it never irritates my skin and I never get a shaving rash after using it, as I can with other products. However, I am not thoroughly impressed with this shaving gel. Why not? It freezes you to death. The bottle describes this as a zingy sensation; personally I would describe it as icy. My legs were extremely cold after shaving with this, not to mention my bikini line! Whilst this cooling effect might be nice on a hot day it isn't much use during the British summer time. I had to wrap up in a big fluffy towel for a good 10 minutes after emerging from the bath just to get some warmth back into my skin. Overall impression: This shaving gel smells great and performs very well in terms of smoothness and a lack of irritation but it is far too cooling for my ta stes. I would recommend this to someone who doesn't mind being cold, but I don't think I will be buying this again once the can runs out.

                      Advantages

                      Disadvantages

Whilst sitting in a friend’s house a few weeks ago, I kept getting a waft of a minty smell. I asked her what it was, she didn’t know. Half way through the next cuppa, she blurted out, “I know what that smell is, it’s my hair”. I must have looked at her like she was mad because she laughed and said, “it really is my hair, I’ve been using Original Mint Sauce”, (well that’s what I thought she meant). You see she’s into all natural and herbal stuff and I thought she had been mixing up some new potion she had been reading about. Off she went to the bathroom and returned with a bottle of shampoo, Original Mint Source, made with Tea Tree and Mint. She opened the top and said “is this what you can smell”. I put my nose to the bottle and the smell of Extra Strong Mints was quite evident. It definitely was the smell so I continued to read the bottle. On the back was a story about Ellen Wakeman, the daughter of a Missionary, who had run away to join the Australian Gold Rush in 1857. Whilst employed by a Barber, she had discovered the healing properties of plants and had had left vague records. The shampoo claimed to have been inspired by these findings. On further reading the contents of the bottle, I very much doubt the majority of the ingredients were around in 1857, nice story though! I went home and thought no more of it until my birthday. My friend turned up with my present. She had bought me the whole range of Original Source products, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. She said she thought she would get me something I would use and not put away in a drawer. (I didn’t realise she knew me so well)! I started to use the stuff when my usual brand ran out. I must admit, it was the strangest sensation I’ve ever experienced in the shower. Firstly, I used the shampoo. On application, my scalp started to tingle, this turned into a feeling of cold water being tipped on your head, and then my head felt like had been put into a freezer. I can only explain it like the feeling you get in your mouth when eating an Extra Strong Mint, only on your head. I told you it was a weird sensation! Then the conditioner, the same thing. On to the Body Wash, the feeling had spread all over. I felt like a Polo and smelt like one too! I continued to use the shampoo for about a week. I began to notice my hair seemed to be getting dry and rough. I have coloured hair and observed that it was fading fast. It seemed like the shampoo was washing the colour out. I decided to give up on the shampoo and leave it for the rest of the family. I expect it would be suitable for people with greasy hair owing to its drying properties. I, personally found it a bit harsh. I remembered reading that Tea Tree Oil was good for deterring Nits. Mixed with the overpowering smell of mint, would most certainly put the little swine’s off. I wondered if that was what Ellen Wakeman had in her mind when concocting her potion, it certainly wasn’t the condition of your hair!

I was busy minding my own business looking for free samples one night and stumbled across a free sample of Original Source Mint and Tea Tree shower gel. Sounds nice I thought to myself, something for nothing! I waited about 5 days and low and behold it appeared on the doormat. Quite a large free sample and packaged ever so nicely I was eager to go in the shower and give my free sample a try. Well, the smell was very refreshing and as I read the back of the sachet noticed that only a small amount was to be applied to the hair! oops! As the froth and foam ran down my face I was in sheer panic. It got onto my eyelids, a very sensetive part of your face and that was it! I didnt dare open my eyes it stung that much. It could only be described as having the top layer of skin removed by having concentrated Hydrochloric acid poured on them! So was this why it was a free sample? Maybe not, as I have seen it all over variuos different supermarkets since that day. Once I had managed to scramble out of the shower and grab a towel my eyes had settled down a bit and I could enjoy the rest of the shower. The gel worked just fine on the rest of my body fortunatley, and like it advertises it is very revitalising and refreshing indeed. It left me in a very refreshed state and wide awake for such an early hour of the day. Just what you need at 6 in the morning. :0) ( well apart from the shock of almost becoming blind!)

Like a lot of other people I first tried this as a freebie. On their site you get 4 free samples and they are big ones too. As Tea Tree and Mint was the first one I got I decided to try that one first. As there is not a huge deal to say about gel I should be able to tell you everything you want to know about it. Firstly its smell its great and it is a beautiful thing to wake up to in the morning when you are half asleep. I think I better tell you what it is for, it is a shower gel so is for your body and it says that only a little should be applied to your hair. It is "to soothe and nourish hair and body". And boy does it do that. "The shower gel is specifically formulated to soothe and nourish all skin types and produces stimulating vapours giving you an exhilirating and refreshing sensation like nothing you've evr experienced before." Well that is what original source have to say about their own product and I am afraid that I would have to agree. It says that you have to keep it away from the eyes and people with sensitive skin should always try it out on a small patch of skin first. The shower gel uses natural oils not synthetic fragrances and is not tested on animals. Which is a good thing. A little bit about the samples you get one sachet being Tea Tree and Mint they send it to you and then you tell them how it was and they send you a different sample with a different flavour. You keep doing this and in the end you get four samples. I like the lemon flavour the most but it is down to you. Go to www.originalsource.co.uk and click free samples. I hope you like it.
