I love this product because it reminds me of my Dad. My Dad was always a wet shaver and I have followed his example throughout my life.
I don't like those foams because although they are convenient, they are really very thin and the vast majority of the foam, especially on the cheaper ones just gets shaved off and is therefore a waste. Some of the shave gels are a bit better and I do have some in the house, but my gripe with these is that being much thicker generally in terms of their consistency, they tend to clog up the razor which in turn interferes with the shaving process and gets on my nerves a bit.
For day to day shaving if I am in a hurry, I either just lather up with ordinary soap - Imperial Leather - and in so doing combine the process of washing and shaving or - when I have a bit more time or at the weekend, I use either this lather cream with my trusty bristle brush (both of which I take with me in my travel bag when I am away) or I use a shave stick. Whether using cream or shave stick, I love the feeling you get when you can generate a proper lather on your face using the brush which helps to lift the bristles from your face.
My wife hates me using the shave stick and the brush because I apparently don't clean up after myself to her particular standard - which I dispute.
Palmolive is the brand of shaving cream that was used by my Dad, although the original variety is no longer made. This updated version with Palm Extract is just as good and I recognise the same fresh smell that makes you feel both clean and fresh when and after using it.
The cream is squeezed out of a tube like toothpaste and because it comes in a tube there is no mess like you sometimes get with cans which go rusty or no nozzles to get blocked up. What I like is that you just need a very small amount of cream on the end of your finger and then you smear it on your face, wet your shaving brush and then work it up into a lather. For this reason one 100ml tube which you can get for not much more than a can of shave foam seems to last forever. My current tube has a price of 99p on it but the current price in Tesco and Sainsburys is £1.39 so it must have been ages ago when I bought it. Even if I used it every day, it would still represent great value.
In closing - a word to the wise....... I once found my bristle brush in the bath rack and it turned out my wife had used this plus the cream for whatever she shaves. She said it stung a bit, but of course I was too much of a gentleman to enquire further. Just remember, girls, it's meant to be used on chinny chin chins, so be careful!
(The Wallace and Gromit reference? - why - A Close Shave, of course! I guess it will be on again this Christmas!)
I have always suffered with sesnitive skin around my neck area when I shave, I have tried many different gels and razors but until I started using Palmolive shave cream i never really found anything that didnt make my skin sore. Palmolive is a traditional shave cream that comes in a tube - the cream has to be used with a shaving brush to create a thin water based lather on the face. The cream and the brush combined are what is important about getting the right shave, the circular motion of the brush helps lift the hair away from the face so it can be easily removed with one light stroke of the razor. A good tip before applying the cream is to soak your face for a while with hot water - this opens your pores and expands the size of the hair by 30% which makes it easier to shave off. The cream is cheap about £1.90, and although it takes slightly longer to shave it is worth it as you getting a cleaner, closer shave with less irritation and it doesn't leave a oily film on your face that many gels do.
