“ Brand: Paul Smith / Type: Aftershave / Gender: for Men „
Being as it was recently Father's Day, my wife, on the behalf of our four year old daughter, decided to treat me to a new fragrance and, knowing I had enjoyed Paul Smith aftershaves in the past, bought me some of this new spray simply called London.
My first impressions were good; I like the bottle, find it smart and stylish and easy to handle and yet it is significantly different from any other brands so as you won't get it confused. I also like the name because, again, it is simple. Though I like the smell of scents such as CK1 and CKIN2U for example, their names don't really mean anything and sound like something George Lucas rejected as droid prototypes!
As to the most important factor, the smell itself.....lets just say it is a bit of a grower. Initially I was not sure about this fragrance at all; on first spray, it smelled a little smoky with a hint of something else to it as though someone had been burning incense sticks, jasmine or possibly scented candles but this began to dissipate after about ten/ fifteen minutes leaving behind something far more pleasant. It seems to have a kind of spicyness to it that is difficult to describe but thankfully is quite subtle on the nose and, after the initial period, I actually ending up quite liking this! And the scent seemed to last foir ages too which meant that this is probably good value for money! To be fair, I am not sure of the price, as it was a gift and that would be just plain rude, but this sort of brand normally retails at around £20-£22 for 100 ml and I would be very surprised if it was much more costly than that!
My Wife reckons she could not smell the smokiness and incense-style smell when I first put this on so maybe it was just me or maybe that is just the way it reacted to my skin; I have always been told that aftershaves can often smell different on different people! Personally though, my feelings were that, once this faded, I was left with quite a mature and subtle fragrance that was nice enough that I would want to wear it again. Certainly it could not be called over-powering like some aftershaves on the market and if that is what you are looking for you should probably try somewhere else! But if you are looking for something that people will subtly notice and think "hmmm..someone smells nice, who's wearing that?" then this is the effect that Paul Smith London seems to have!
I love the design of the packaging and bottle, I love the fact it lasts quite a while on your skin and I love the compliments I got when I wore it out to a party on Father's Day evening. I am not sure about the initial scent when you first put it on but I think I have started to get used to it over the last couple of days so maybe it was just me!
Whatever, I like this enough thast I am seriously considering buying another bottle when this one wears out! And if that's not a recommendation, I don't know what is!
