      Very helpful

      Average Shave Gel

Personally, I find shaving incredibly annoying - even though I only have to shave a very small section of my body (...my face), it really is something that I keep delaying. This is firstly because I'm lazy, and secondly, because I always seem to get a nasty dose of shaving rash. Sure, there are products which help sooth the feeling - Nivea's aftershave balm is excellent, and my trusty Mach 3 is great - yet sometimes I still end up with a blotchy sore face, which is why I usually only shave once a week.

Apart from the aftershave balm and the razor, the other important factor in a decent shave is the shaving foam / gel, and believe me, I've tried a few different ones over the years. The last product I tested was Ted Baker's 'Bodywear' Shave Gel, which comes in a 150ml squeezable container, and costs £4.10 from Boots. The product is Fragrance free and ideal for sensitive skin, plus it's enhanced with Aloe, Tea Tree Oil and Vitamin E.

The marketing hype surrounding the gel claims that it gives a "close, ultra smooth shave leaving your skin feeling supple and moisturized" - but is it really that good?

When I used the product for the first time, I applied a small amount to my hands, lathered it up, and applied it to my face - actually, I say 'lather', but the gel doesn't lather very much at all, which doesn't give you very much confidence in its effectiveness. The smell is pleasant - not overpowering, but noticeable, and certainly a better fragrance than the bog-standard Tesco and Gilette shave foams offer. The shave experiece was average - no better or worse than other shave products I've tried, although my face did feel softer afterwards.

Ted Baker Bodywear Shave Gel is expensive at over £4 - you can get around four cans of Tesco's shave foam for that price, and as it isn't noticeably more effective, I can't give it that high a recommendation.
