Tesco Value Shaving Foam
Advantages: Price, smell
Disadvantages: Doesn't stay on skin, doesn't provide any protection whilst shaving
Here is another of the Tesco value range, but just how good is this product?
Tesco are always excellent with their prices, but sometimes it is worth paying a little extra to get a better valued product, especially when it comes to shaving foam!
I grabbed a bottle for 34p last month, which I found very reasonable to try as it meant I wouldn't be at much of a loss if the product turned out to be rubbish.
The bottle now comes in a 250ml which as far as I know, is a smaller bottle than what Tesco used to stock.
For 34p, the price of this bottle really is a big comparison to the other shaving foams, which is what attracted me to it.
I guessed the foam was directed at males as the picture on the front is a male, however I don't think Tesco are all that good at using the correct images for advertisement. For example, their Tesco value hair spray features a long hair female, when in fact my boyfriend actually uses hairspray a lot more than I do... so maybe they should rethink their target audience.
But anyway, I usually go for a males shaving foam anyway as they are generally cheaper and better quality.
This shaving foam doesn't state it is for sensitive skin, so i wasn't expecting it to be light and scent-less.
The shaving foam actually holds quite a nice smell to it. To me, it smells like a typical male's sort of perfume, which is one thing I love about this product; and possibly the only thing apart from the price.
The foam comes in a boring plain white bottle with the Tesco logo and layout of every other Tesco value range; so it is very easy to find.
The shaving foam is generally used the same as others- Shake well, push the button, get the foam. However I did notice this bottle really does need a good shake before use.
When shaken vigorously, it produces quite puffed foam which looks and feels good quality.
The tub advises to apply warm water to the area before using, but as I am always in the shower when using this, that step isn't a problem.
When using this foam, I found I needed a very thick amount of the foam. It very easily washes off which is the biggest disadvantage, especially when using it in the shower. It doesn't stay on skin and easily glides off with the slightest drop of water.
When shaving with this foam, it doesn't feel as if it provides a guard to the skin, it isn't moisturising or at all soothing. Sometimes, I feel as if I have had a shave with no foam at all, even after I have used a tone of foam on my skin.
The smell of the foam doesn't stay, which is a shame as it is probably just about the only good thing with this product.
The bottle doesn't run down too quickly. I have noticed even at the beginning when I was slapping tones of the foam on my skin, the bottle didn't seem to be getting any lighter.
TIP- If you ever run out of shaving foam, or you have unluckily picked up this Tesco Value shaving foam, I have found using conditioner on your skin is excellent! It moisturises and helps the blade to glide and leaves your skin feeling smooth and soothed.
I won't use this foam again, ever. Even for the low price, it is just getting in the way in my bathroom and isn't worth trying.
If it isn't even good enough for my legs, I can't see at all how it can be good enough for a man's face!
Thanks for reading, I also post on Ciao
Summary: Sorry Tesco, you've not won me on this one
