I've had this product only a couple of days now,I thought it would be a great idea as i have sensitive skin and most razors irritate my skin, But i've only used it twice and not that keen on it. the 1st time i used this it was good and done the job really well but then when it came to using it the second time round it turned out that the blades were quiet blunt. usually the Wilkinson swords are quite good and can be used a few times before getting blunt but my experience with this one wasnt the best experience so not too happy that i had to spend £10 on the razor. In future references i will stick to other Wilkinson swords that i've used before so i know that it's defo worth the money and not a waste like this one has became. I certainly wouldn't recommend this product to anyone that is in need of it for sensitive skin reasons but however it may have just been this product it's self so i cannot account ALL of these....it could have just been a one off.
Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk I tend to buy razors that are on offer and generally cheap, which I probably shouldn't. The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk razors often fall into this category in supermarkets and high street shops and I have purchased them many times in the past. Packaging The razors come in the standard un-open able packaging as most standard razors on the market do. It is in a thin and shaped plastic box that is sealed shut and when you try to open it slices your hands open! The Cardboard insert inside is a deep purple and marine blue colour with an image of the razor inside and on the back has all of the product infomation. The packaging also has the Wilkinson Sword branding and razor type - Hydro Silk written boldly across the front of the box. The Razor This razor boasts many benefits to using this over other razors on the market. Firstly it consists of 5 curve sensing blades which have water activated serum infused with marine extracts as part of them which is supposed to both protect your skin and hydrate it at the same time for up to two hours after shaving. The razors also have a skin guard which protects your skin from irritation off the blades and lets you have a very close shave. Thirdly, and I'm not convinced this is really something that would make anyone buy them, it has a soft touch handle inspired by water giving the blades a 'beautiful look'. The razor handle is see through blue coloured which has a wet look to it, the top of the razor where the blades are turns into a light blue/white shade. There is a white button on the front of the handle where you press to release the blades. It is the standard razor size about 12 cm in length and the handle is shaped for your fingers to hold it securely. Use I generally shave with shaving foam or gel to get a more comfortable and smooth shave. So I get a nice lather and then run the razor across my legs. The blades get very close to my skin and you can feel their sharpness without it feeling like it is scraping the hairs off your legs. The guard over the blades makes sure that this doesn't happen, however you can still nick yourself if you slip to the side. This blades hydrating properties are definitely noticeable compared to bog standard razors that I have used in the past. When I have had a quick shave without foam my legs feel a lot smoother and more moisturised. The blades glide easily over my skin without the need for lots of foam or gels. This obviously becomes less apparent with more use but I get a decent amount of shave out of the blades, probably more than I should! Overall I can't fault these razors at all, they give me a great, smooth and comfortable shave and are easy to use and maintain. As I have said I will only really buy razors on offer, these at full price cost £9.99 for the razor and 5 blades at Boots, however they are often on half price offers which makes them much more reasonable in my opinion.
I'm not really into waxing my legs personally I find it too painful and tend to just shave them, I do not stick to one brand of razor and will go for whatever is on offer or something that it relatively cheap. Recently I went to visit my Godmother and she had somehow acquired a brand new Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor, she only uses an electric razor so asked me if I wanted it, so I said Thank You and took it home to try. Packaging The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor comes inside a clear plastic packet, there is a card inserted inside the pack giving the appearance of a purple background. Printed on the front of the packet is the Wilkinson Sword logo with the name Hydro Silk written underneath, also on the front of the packet in various places are a few facts about the razor some of which are illustrated with small pictures. The card insert can also be seen from the back of the packet and this contains all of the relevant product information, the Wilkinson Sword logo appears at the top, the information is clearly written and again illustrated with pictures. On the back of the clear plastic packet there is a perforated area, this simply tears open, there is a further perforated area in the card insert which allows you to remove the razor, or alternatively you can just take the card out of the packet which I personally found much easier. The Razor The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor basically consists of a transparent blue rubbery plastic handle which is wider towards the bottom with a thinner neck, the handle has ridges going down the length of it which combined with the material it is made from makes it easy to hold without it slipping out of your hands if they are wet, the Wilkinson Sword logo also appears on the handle in silver. On the end of the handle is a clear plastic circle with the razor head attached to this, the razor head is a mint green and blue plastic rectangle with the silver blades in the centre of it, this head can be removed and replaced by using the small white button attached to the back of the head. The razor measures approximately 5 inches in length, the razor head is quite large and chunky allowing you to cover a reasonably large area of skin at a time. The idea of the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor is that as you shave it will hydrate your skin for up to 2 hours after shaving which is longer than any other razor, this will in turn leave your skin silky smooth. There is a strip along the top and bottom of the blades which contain water activated moistening serums which are infused with marine extracts, it is these strips that help to leave you skin smooth and soft after shaving. This razor contains 5 curve sensing blades which gives you closeness as you shave, these also contain skin guards which will protect your skin from irritation. The head of the razor is very flexible and will move with the curves in your legs as you shave without hardly any pressure. Price and Availability The Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor is available from a variety of places including Supermarkets and chemists such as Boots and Superdrug. As I have mentioned I got given my razor so didn't actually pay for it, however I do know that this product is sold for £9.99 in Boots, the price does vary a little in other stores. My Opinion Since I received the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor I have used it several times and have been extremely pleased with the results. The flexible head makes shaving your legs and underarms very easy, the razor moves easily around curves without catching or cutting your skin. The water activated moisture strips really do make a difference to shaving, the razor slides so much easier over your skin and it really does what it says it will, after I have shaved my legs they felt extremely smooth and soft and the blades cut really close to your skin again helping to leave them smooth. The razor glides so smoothly over your legs you cannot feel the blades at all. The shape of the handle and the material it is made of makes the razor very easy to grip even with wet hands in the bath so there is no worry of the razor slipping out of your hands. For me the only down side of the razor is the price, personally I think whilst it is within keeping of other similar razors price wise it is expensive, when I buy a razor I tend to go for the cheaper option that is of a reasonably good quality, personally I would not buy this razor at full price, whilst it is of an excellent quality and does exactly what it say it will I do think its a bit over priced. Overall I would recommend the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor for the fact that it leaves your skin lovely and soft without the worry of cutting yourself.
The Product = = = = = = Hydro Silk is a new razor for ladies by Wilkinson Sword which is a brand many of you will have heard probably heard of. This razor claims to hydrate your skin for up to two hours after shaving. The razor has water activated moisturising serum and 5 curve sensing blades that adapt to the contours of your body to give you an incredibly close shave. It also claims to help protect your skin from irritation, leaving it irresistibly silky smooth. The razor comes in a plastic blister pack and you will definitely need scissors to get into this. The plastic can also become rather sharp once cut so please be careful. On the front of the blister back it has a large Wilkinson Sword logo and it also states the name of the product and that it has Water-activated moisturising serum. You can clearly see the razor through the plastic packaging which is a pale blue colour. The razor does only come in one colour. The purple card inside the blister pack which holds the razor in place, gives you come information about the razor and it also states that the product is dermatologist tested. There is also a voucher on the piece of card which gives you £2.00 off Hydro Silk Blades. I thought this was quite good as blades are so expensive now. The razor itself is blue and has the Wilkinson Sword logo on the bottom end of the razor. The blue is a pale colour and is almost see-through. There is a grooved area under the handle to the razor which feels slightly softer to enable you to get a good grip of the razor when using it. The razor blade itself comes with a clear plastic cover on to protect the blades whilst in the packaging. I don't think you are meant to keep this for the razor as this is only thin plastic. I how-ever have kept it to help protect the blades when I'm not using it. The razor has 5 blades, all of which look fairly sharp. These have unique skin guards to help protect your skin form irritation. Above and below the blades are some white coloured dots in a line (15 in total) and these are where the moisturising serum is which is infused with marine extracts. The blade head moves slightly so it can adapt to the contours of your body for a closer shave. Price/Availability = = = = = = = = I recently placed a New Look order from their website and this razor was actually free with the order which I didn't know until I received the order. In fact I had actually placed 3 separate orders and actually ended up receiving a razor with each order, so I have one at my boyfriends, one at my parents and I gave the other one to my sister. You can purchase the razor from various places such as supermarkets, Superdrug and boots. The razor is currently on offer in boots for £4.99 which saves you £5.00 off the full price. A pack of 3 refill blades for this razor are currently £7.64 which saves you 85p off the full price. Don't forget in the packaging to the razor is a voucher for £2.00 off these blades. Using the Razor = = = = = = = = After relaxing in the bath for good 5mins, I decided I would have a go at using the razor. My legs really needed shaving so this was the perfect opportunity to test it. As the razor has moisturising serum I decided not to use any shaving foam as the moisturising should work with the water to ensure I get a smooth shave. I gently moved the razor up my leg slowly, ensuring I wasn't putting too much pressure on the razor. The razor itself is very easy to hold and feels light when using it. The soft grip handle with the grooves mean that you can hold it easily, even with wet hands. I started at the bottom of my leg and again worked the razor up to my knee in a straight line. So far it didn't feel as though the moisturising serum had been activated despite putting it in the water after each shave. The razor felt a little too dry as I shaved my legs. I decided to hold the razor in the water for about 10 seconds in the hope that this would help. I continued to shave the rest of my legs and also my arm-pits. The razor definitely lives up to its claims of contouring to your body as I had no problems shaving my arm pits at all. The razor did a really good job at removing all the hairs that needed removing. After shaving I still didn't really feel that the moisture serum had been activated. Perhaps it was activated but I just didn't really notice it? I rinsed the razor off and popped the plastic cover bit back on the razor to protect the blades. You don't have to do this. After having a wash I got out of the bath and patted my skin dry. My legs were feeling extremely smooth after shaving them and there wasn't any irritation after shaving. I applied some moisturiser to my legs which made them feel even smoother. My legs stayed feeling smooth and soft all-day, which was probably helped by the moisturiser I had applied after-wards. I always apply moisturiser after a bath anyway but in this particular case I am glad I did because I didn't really feel that the moisture serum had made that much difference to my skin. I was expecting more. A few days later when my arm pits were getting a little stubbly, I grabbed my razor whilst in the shower ready to shave them. I removed the plastic bit off the razor head and noticed that the white dots at the top and bottom of the blades were looking slightly different to what they were when I first used the razor. I rubbed my ginger very gently over the white dots and it felt slightly moist. It looked as though the moisture serum had worked at some point after I had put the plastic bit over the top of the razor head. I shaved my arm pits and this time as I did so, I could feel the moisture serum as I shaved. What a difference this made! The razor glided over my skin so easily and it didn't feel dry like last time when using the razor. This shave felt much gentler that the other one and it felt as though my skin was being moisturised at the same time. After shaving I rinsed the razor off again and then had a wash. The skin on my under-arms felt much softer than they had done before and I felt as though I got much smoother shave this time. With the razor I noticed that all the time the razor head is wet the moisture serum keeps working. I know this because a few hours when I went back to the bathroom the moisturising serum had made the razor and the shelf where I put the razor a little slimy from the moisture serum. This has happened a few times and I can't think of any-way to stop this from happening. This is a shame as I feel as though a lot of the moisture serum is wasted whilst the razor isn't in use. It means you also have the leave the razor running under the shower for a few minutes to clean it. Overall Opinion = = = = = = = = I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of shaving as about 2-3 days later my legs start to itch a lot from shaving. I get this with any type of razor that I use on my legs which is rather annoying. As this was a freebie I thought I would try the product to see how good it was. The packaging that the product comes in isn't that different to other razors, but they do make it clear that this is a Wilkinsons Sword product. The razor does a really good job of giving you a really close shave when using it. When using the razor for the first time I was disappointed that the moisture serum wasn't activated by the water and this made the shave feel slightly dry. The second times using the razor when the moisture serum actually worked it was much smoother shave and left my skin feeling much softer than it had done before when the moisture serum hadn't activated. Although the razor was good and I was impressed with the close shave of the razor I was disappointed with moisture serum not working the first time. I also was disappointed at how messy the razor was when going back into the bathroom as the moisture serum doesn't really stop working until the razor starts to dry out which means it can end up in a slightly stringy mess. In terms of value I think the razor is very reasonable value with £5.00 off of it currently in boots. I would definitely make the most of this offer and also go back and purchase some more blades using the £2.00 off voucher that comes with the razor. This razor certainly does the job of getting rid of unwanted hair and didn't irritated my skin, how-ever the moisture serum either doesn't work or gets a little too messy for my liking. (review also on ciao)
I brought this from boots for £4.99 last week believing that this would be a brilliant product. However where it is good with handling, easiness and comfort it lacks in results and price. The razor has 5 blades which make for smooth results and easy use however i found that i still has stubble after using this product. The razor is cleverly designed for easy handling and comfort the attractive ocean blue handle carefully contoured fits comfortably in the hand and is easy grip for safe use. This i feel is one of its advantages because it minimises the slipping you usually get with the disposable razors and i now get less cuts. The head swivels up and down to enable it to glide over the skin and as promised it does. my favourite part of this product is the shea butter serum on the top of the razor which is activated with water, this does leave your skin feeling soft. However the feeling doesn't last long and i end up resorting to moisturiser. Over all this is a standard working razor which i feel is not worth the money you pay for it as it can be expensive to keep buying the replacement heads.
What the razor costs: Boots have a half price offer on Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk which means advantage card holders will get 499 points too. If you want to purchase this buy now at £4.99 because the normal price, of a penny short of ten pounds, is ludicrous, and not the least bit value for money, in my opinion. The advertising blurb is as follows: Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Razor. 5 curve sensing blades with water activated serum infused with marine extracts. Unique skin guards help protect your skin from irritation, whilst 5 curve sensing blades give you incredible closeness. Soft touch handle inspired by water for a beautiful look. And the results are: There are five blades on the one razor, which allegedly provide 'incredible closeness.' No, it doesn't! It still leaves a little stubble. Now, if I was paying full price, I would be really annoyed at that result. I think it might be that the head, together with the handle, is a bit bulky and this could prevent me from making the shave closer. I ought to mention that I have an amazing product called the Philips Precision Lumea which gives me less hair re-growth, and therefore, I no longer have to shave about every other day but about once a week (a fab product which you can read about in one of my earlier reviews on dooyoo). This means that I am less worried about hair removal with a razor as there is not so much to remove. What is important is ease of use, value for money and not cutting my skin. The water-activated serum does feel soft as it touches my skin (here comes the but) but it's messy. I get a string of soapy wetness sitting on it between shaves and when in use the word gloop springs to mind. I think it would be better just to use soap or shaving gel rather than have this included in the razor. It does prevent dry skin following a shave but soaps and gels can do that too. To remove it might keep the cost lower for the product and make it more value for money. On a highly positive note the shaver does glide smoothly and the biggie for me is that it does not cut my skin. If I could award stars for this factor only it would be five out of five. This razor is easy enough to use because of the rubber grip handle which means it doesn't slip through my fingers. It deals well with the awkward areas like knees as the blades are designed to curve but a bit bulky for under the arm use. Shaving time is short though I know this also comes down to the wonders of my Philips electric hair removal system. A big negative is that the blade is quickly becoming blunt and unless there is another I am not paying more than I did for the razor just to replace the blades for over eight pounds! A shave in summary: The razor ticks the boxes on ease of use, and best of all didn't cut me or cause irritation on sensitive skin, but it has the faults of gloop, lack of a close shave, fast blunting blades, expensive replacement parts, and a heavy price to pay for the product at full price. If it was always cheaper, even cheaper than at half price, then I would give this three and a half to four stars as it does a reasonable job but this is not justified by the price. Therefore, the product gets three stars and none of those are for the inflated RRP.
Last weekend i was in boots looking for some disposable razors and i saw this product for £4.99 and decided to give it a try and see if i'd hopefully get a little more use out of it than the disposables. Appearance It's a great little razor as it has rubber grips so there won't be any slipping resulting in any unnecessary cuts which is a problem i've had many times with disposables as they don't have little rubber fins to hold onto. It also has 5 blades ensuring a smooth shave but the thing i loved was just above the blades is a line of shea butter for a smooth finish that leaves your skin so unbelievably soft. Using the Product I used a supermarkets own brand of shaving foam while in the shower and started shaving i was surprised as how smoothly it glided up my legs getting rid of every hair in the area. It curved well at my knees and ankles which is where i usually nick myself with the disposables. It took no longer than 5 minutes and the job was done. Conclusion The grip worked well and i got away with zero cuts, the shea butter left my skin silky smooth and the 5 blades didn't miss a hair. The only downside to this razor is the replacement heads.. they come in at roughly £8.49 which is almost double the price of the original razor. It is definitely worth the money but can be expensive. I'd 100% recommend this to anyone who has issues with razor irritation, ingrown hairs or dry skin after shaving. Using this razor cause zero irritation even though i have very sensitive skin and my legs were still silky smooth for a couple of days after the initial shave thanks to the Shea butter strip.
I bought this razor when I was actually shopping for replacement heads in Boots and as usual it was cheaper to buy a whole new razor then just the heads as it was on offer (I really wish razor firms would change this as it a big bug bear of mine and so wasteful) so I thought I would give it a go. First of all I should explain that I am not a big fan of razors as however I shave my legs it brings me up in a rash but I am impatient and skint so can't always afford or be bothered to wait for a wax. Therefore, for me it is a case of trying to find a razor that does the least damage so the promise of water activated serum did tempt me to buy it. ***Packaging*** It comes in one of those annoying plastic pod things that take forever to get into but once you are in you get a slim blue handle, with one blade (with a plastic cap) and a shower suction hook -so fairly standard for a razor. However, one thing that does bug me and it is fairly minor but still annoying is the fact that any replacement heads don't come with a plastic cover which is more hygienic when you are hanging in the shower so I make sure I keep the original one. ***The Product*** According to Wilkinson Sword it is has "5 curve sensing blades with water activated serum infused with marine extracts. Experience a close and smooth shave!!" I have to say the serum is great when you first use it as it does smooth nicely over the leg. However, because it is water activated it lasts one shave only as it all sort of oozes out of the holes the serum is in. Basically the serum comes in a few tiny holes around the razor so doesn't last long. The five blades do give a close shave but again like any razor that sensation doesn't last that long as it starts to blunt and to be fair it is no different to any other five blade razor - the special bit is the serum and that doesn't last so you are probably better off buying a cheaper alternative with five blades (perhaps a man's razor). As for my legs well they still came up in a rash (in fairness that is my skin and not the razors fault) but the hydrating properties don't last very long at all when compared to other razors. Basically there is nothing special about this razor. ***Price**** It's around the £5 mark in Boots and other chemists and around £9 for three replacement blades so pretty standard for most women's razors. ***Rating*** I've only given it 2 stars because I actually wanted to award 2.5 (but you can't do half stars) as it's a fairly average razor and nothing that special - so far I have found it no different to other brands of razors. Maybe buy it is on offer but don't expect anything too groundbreaking. I have purchased new heads for the razor but will probably try a new brand when they run out as there is nothing special about this one. It's not a bad razor just not a great one.
