Advantages: Gentle to the skin
Disadvantages: Not recommended for removing heavy make up
I have been given a bit bottles of samples (12ml each and the selling size is 200ml) of this cleansing gel as part of the free gifts of my purchase of other Shiseido products. Given that I had quite a few bottles of this product I had been able to try it for quite a few times.
The Product
The product, while named as a cleansing gel, is actually intended to be used as a make-up remover. It is of a gel texture which claims to absorb makeup, oil, and impurities while maintaining moisture in skin.
How to use it
I was advised by the beauty consultant that I should apply the product with dry hands and when the face is dry. What you then have to do is then put the gel in your hand, put it on your face and cleanse it gently with circular motions. Then rinse well. I find that you will need to use quite a large amount of gel in order to spread the gel evenly on the face and to make smooth circular motions. That is a minus because that means your gel will run out fast!
The result
The cleansing gel is very gentle and easy to use. I do not find any problems of irritation to the skin despite my skin being a sensitive one. However, I do find that it is too gentle and I will recommend that it be used for removing heavy make up. If you are having a heavy make-up, I will recommend using cleansing oil instead (and Bobbi Brown has a good one for this purpose). Besides, I will always use the cleansing foam as a followup step to ensure that my face is thoroughly cleaned.
Besides, it is useful to note that the cleansing gel is for the face only and Shiseido has a separate product for removing make up on the eyes and the lips.
The price
As said above, I did not purchase the item myself but a quick search on the internet shows that a 200ml bottle one is available at £31.50.
To sum up, I would say that this cleansing gel is a gentle one which is useful in removing simple make up on a daily basis. However, there are certainly some other products in the market (and may even be cheaper) which are more powerful in removing make up so I probably will not buy this product out of my own pocket.
