Primark Bow Ballet Pumps
by katykicker
Primark isn't somewhere that I really shop, however recently I had almost all my shoes packed up after a house move and needed a last minute outfit in a hurry. I decided to nip out and purchase a cheap pair of shoes to see me through the evening rather than hunt through my house for one of several boxes that had shoes in and were God ... knows where. As I didn't want to spend a lot I headed off to my local Primark on the advise of a friend.
I must say I'm not really a fan of Primark. Most of their clothes I find to be cheap, tacky and so widely worn where I live that you could go out in a T-shirt and find 5% of the other women your age wearing it on the same day - not good! But as I only needed the shoes for one night out, consisting of about 5 hours, I figured it wouldn't hurt too much if they were cheap and nasty shoes. I headed off to Primark quite late in the day and so the shoe displays had been partially demolished by other shoppers but eventually I started finding size 7 shoes, these bow ballet pumps to be specific. The pair that I picked up were £6 per pair, a bargain really, even for shoes that I didn't intend on using for more than a night.
I picked up white shoes, with a black bow, as they looked quite pretty and I knew the shoes would accessorise with the handbag and wrist jewellery I was going to be wearing for my night out. I was quite limited in terms of clothes as I hadn't got access to all my clothes and jewellery so it was important to me that I still looked good for my night out. There were other colours available but these were the shoes that stood out to me, particularly as they were so cheap. Also with it being nice weather now, well mainly, I figured they could potentially be good shoes to wear sometimes during the summer with cropped jeans or cropped trousers.
Now I did try these shoes on in Primark, they fit fine, but I was in a hurry so didn't really walk around in them like I usually would before buying shoes. Once I put these shoes on for my night out I noticed that the outside of the shoes felt soft and nice. My feet went comfortably in to the shoes and they did fit me comfortably which isn't always something I find with size 7 shoes. My feet are quite wide but they do not stretch out the shoes as they're very accommodating. Now they don't feel super soft and comfortable but they are quite sturdy feeling and feel good for the £6 price I paid.
I did manage to scuff these slightly on the first night that I wore them and this showed on the right shoe in particularly, right where the shoe joined the bottom which was very noticeable to me and annoyed me when I noticed it but thankfully I was on the way home from my night out rather than just starting it. In addition to this the sole felt very thin and I could feel every stone or bump in the pavement while out walking with my friends to our night out. The off white of the shoes was quickly coloured and around the bottom in particular, especially near where I scuffed the shoes, it started to take on a darker colour and they just looked tatty already. I did walk along a road where it had rained earlier that day so this could have contributed to that but the darkness didn't come off when I tried to clean the shoes the following morning - what a disappointment.
I do feel that you get what you pay for and these shoes were cheap and rubbish! They looked nice, the bows were pretty on both shoes, but the shoes discoloured within a matter of hours and scuffed quickly too. I know I only paid £6 for these but I would have expected them to at least one full evening before falling apart. They feel thin and cheap even though my feet were quite comfortable in the shoe. I didn't get any blisters from the few hours that I wore these shoes but they looked horrible by the end of the evening and were only fit for the bin. I am rating the shoes 2/5 as they are cheap and my feet felt quite comfortable in them however the soles are thin, they scuff and discolour quickly, and I felt that they looked quite cheap once I teamed them up with my whole outfit. I wouldn't buy these shoes again and I don't really recommend them either, they did me a turn for a few hours when I was caught short but they're just not for me! Read the complete review |
