Animal Nancy Skate Shoes
by flodombey I have to admit that when I recently ordered these shoes, direct from Animal's own UK website, I had a moment of niggling doubt where I considered whether I am in fact 'too old' for this kind of footwear at the grand old age of 32. I had not actually owned a pair of these style of trainers for a good few year but throughout my late teens ... and early 20s I practically lived in pair after pair of Vans and Airwalks and adored them. Anyway, I had recently had to abandon my general everyday trainers and needed some more when I found a link to a sale on the Animal website and managed to bag a pair of these for £20. The bargain price enabled me to overlook my fleeting concerns over whether I could still convincingly wear these shoes and I am glad that this was the case as they are as comfortable now as they ever were. 'Nancy' is the name of the style of shoe from Animal and it comes in a range of colours and patterns, mine are a black base with some multi coloured stitching round the heels and toes. This might sound hideous but it is actually very subtle and I like it. Being a 'skate' shoe (ie. intended for use by skateboarders) these are wide and very flat with a deep sole and good grip. They look a bit like a more trendy version of a deck shoe. Because of the width and depth of the soles they are very comfortable to wear and are designed to be virtually slip on and off with the laces fairly loose. In fact I would almost go so far as to say the laces here are for decorative purposes. I quickly knotted mine right behind the top eyeholes and then chopped the excess off, this is how confident I was that I do not need them. A nice touch here is that the shoes arrived with a white pair of laces already in them but also with a spare black pair in case you wanted to change them to less obvious ones or in case black laces are just more to your taste. The grip on these shoes is good and the are great for running errands and driving in, I would not, however, want to wear them to exercise in as they are designed to be worn fairly loose and therefore I would not trust them to be in any way supportive of my feet or ankles. They do look very good under jeans though! These are more of a fashion statement than an athletic shoe, but they do the job I wanted them for very well, namely giving me a comfy, fashionable pair of shoes with which to run about at the weekends in. The quality is pretty good with Animal and all the stitching is tight and neat, if you can find them on offer then the Nancy style is a very safe bet as a spare pair of trainers. I have decided you are never too old for these type of shoes, especially after a week of dashing about in heels for work, my feet are very thankful for them! Read the complete review |

Animal Big Foot Furry Slippers
by chrisandmark When I unwrapped these slippers on Christmas morning my heart sunk, not because they're not très cool (they are) but because I simply don't like the overly bulky style of slippers which is all the rage at the moment. However, after throwing away some of my old slippers (I really do have too many pairs) I decided to give them a try as ... poor circulation means my feet get very cold whenever I'm not wearing socks. You can't see it from the piccie above, but these are mule slippers (no back in them) but the way the fur puffs up you'd be forgiven for thinking they are actually full foot slippers by appearance. The inside of the slippers is furry, although (thank god) it's not covered in the same long hair as the outside as imagine how awful that would feel between your toes! The inside fur is soft and cosy making these the most comfortable slippers I think I've ever worn. The sole is made of a thick rubbery plastic, which is great if like me you have wooden flooring as it prevents me slipping and sliding around even when the floor has just been mopped or polished. I will say here though that the hair on the slippers is so long that it does get trapped beneath the sole of the slippers so they might start looking grubby if you regularly wear them while you're mopping up. Or if your floors are particularly dirty! It also doesn't help that the slippers are an extremely pale pink and white speckled effect, which doesn't go anywhere towards hiding the dirt. Considering how bulky these slippers are they are surprisingly easy to walk and balance in. This is thanks to the fact that the actual foot of the slipper is a standard slipper size and it's just the hair which makes them look bigger than they actually are. I still don't feel right coming down the stairs in them as I've had bad experiences before with these extra-large slippers (well, my daughter has when she fell down the stairs while wearing a stupid pair of bulky Spongebob slippers) but if you're used to wearing this style you'll be fine. As I've mentioned, these slippers do get dirty very quickly. They can go through the washing machine on a coolish wash and this will bring them up nice and clean, but they do take some drying so make sure you've got a spare section of radiator to stick them on for an hour after washing. Another thing I'll tell you about is the fact that the hair does come out slightly, to be fair not so much that you'd notice if you have long hair anyway as the hairs will just mingle with your own hair on the floor and furnishings! I've been wearing them for around six weeks now and the hairs have just stopped coming out, but personally I didn't feel it was much of a problem anyway. £10 from most large shoe shops. Animal Swish Sandals
by jacb1983 One of the pairs of flip flop sandals I own are these Animal Swish Sandals. I actually bought them whilst on holiday a couple of years ago, when one of the older pairs I'd use on the beach started to rub me and make it sore between my toe as the toe-post wore thin. I bought these in a beachside clothing store and they cost me around 8 ... euros, which is really more than I'd have liked to pay but they were the pair I liked best and trying them on I found I really liked the feel of them. I liked the design of these flip flops with their striped soft lightweight foam base, and a swirling 'Animal' logo written across the top of the shoe's sole. The colour combination of yellow, grey and white is Summery but not garish, and the white strap of the sandals is also nice looking. There were a few other designs of these Animal sandals but I preferred the grey and yellow ones. Trying these on in the shop, and later wearing them every day for a couple of weeks whilst on holiday, I found that these were very comfortable to wear. The toe-post is quite padded and has a really soft feel to it which made my sore toes feel much better. Similarly, the strap over the top of my foot is soft, feels padded and fits snuggly, so I had no problems with these rubbing or chafing at all. They are very light as well as being comfortable, so as a wearing experience these are a great pair of flip flop sandals. I wore these a lot during the holiday, so I definitely feel like I got my 8 euros worth of money's out of them, plus I wore them for another year on and off after buying them. They lasted me well, and although they are looking a little battered now, I can really recommend this comfortable, stylish and affordable shoes from surf brand Animal. Read the complete review |
