Carvela Anotherone
by PerfectPeaches During the last two months I have been updating my work wardrobe which of course includes shoes. Even though I don't return to my normal job until October I do help run my partner's office and I go in twice a week for a few hours to sort paperwork and finances so I do have to dress smart. My work shoes have needed to be updated but I ... haven't gone mad and bought loads I waited until the sales this year and added a few new pairs to replace my old ones now in shoe heaven. I generally buy the same brands of shoe and I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and therefore if you haven't guessed already by my other shoe reviews I will pay for quality especially which it comes to work shoes which I tend to spend a lot of time in. A pair recently purchased are by Carvela which I trust as a brand and they were in the sale in Kurt Geiger. What Carvela say: "Anotherone by Carvela is a classic patent pump in this seasons most sought after mid-size heel. Extremely versatile, they are sensible enough for work, yet sexy enough for play!" I chose Anotherone because they are not overly high but still smart which is what I need but also something a little glam as its nice to glam up a work outfit which lets face it are not overly great to look at! I opted for the grey version of these shoes but they are also available in black (still patent). The shoes are made from a synthetic material which did initially put me off as I have found some shoes I have previously bought being solely made from a synthetic material can be too tough to wear and they don't give like leather shoes but I bought them anyway seeing as they were in the sale and I could always return them if they were not suitable. My initial fears about the synthetic made shoes was soon dismissed as they are actually quite supple once on although they are a little rigid for the first few times they are worn which was expected but the rigidity of the sides of the shoes do help support the feet well which is nice as your feet do feel secure. After wearing them a few times they did give a little but no where near as much as if they were made of leather. There is nothing fancy about these shoes other than the fact that they have a patent finish which I guess makes them a little more glam than a plain court shoe. But as with all patent shoes they can scuff and mark easily and you therefore need to be careful when wearing them to ensure you don't damage or mark the shoes. Suitable spray on protectors can help to a certain extend. Anotherone has a lovely round toe which is actually quite wide which is nice as the front of your foot isn't cramped or crushed and therefore makes them quite comfortable to walk in. The shoes are not overly narrow and I have what you would call normal width feet and my feet feel secure although not overly snug so they are not uncomfortable around the sides or at the front of the shoe. There is a cream lining which contrasts nicely against the grey and there is a little padding for extra comfort. The heel is classed as mid height and being 9mm I can see why it is and is far smaller than a lot of my heels which sometimes is a much needed relief. The heel is slightly cone shaped and therefore will support the foot a bit more than a slim stiletto heel, it will also wear better than a stiletto. The heel is also patent and you need to pay extra care with them especially if you are driving in them or walking over grass as they can get damaged quite easily. Overall, I find this shoe incredibly versatile. Over the last two months or so they have been worn quite a bit both day and night and although a little uncomfortable to start off with as they are a little rigid they did eventually soften and give around my foot which made them a lot more comfortable. The heel height is nice as although not too high they don't make me feel too short against my male colleagues! The heel also supports your foot well which is nice but then the shoe does feel secure although a little bit loose around the front of my feet but that is only a minor problem. I really don't have any major gripes about these shoes other than the slight looseness around the front of my feet but they don't slip off when walking so that is the main thing. I would definitely recommend these as they are a lovely court shoe suitable for the office and an evening out. Even better they are now in the sale. 4 stars from me. ~~~~~~~~~ Useful Info ~~~~~~~~~ Availability: Kurt Geiger (other Carvela stockists) Colour(s): Black and grey Sizes: 3 to 8 (limited due to sale) Price: Was £95.00 Now £69.00 (Kurt Geiger) Read the complete review |

Carvela Garbo
by PerfectPeaches I really never learn when it comes to shopping in shoe sales. As much as I try I cannot help buying shoes it is a weakness and one that my partner turns a blind eye to - we have separate bank accounts fortunately for him! Before my previous holiday I wanted to ultra glam wedges to go with my maxi dresses mainly for ... evenings. My search led me to the Kurt Geiger sale which is one of my favourite stores I just cannot help myself. A pair of shoes I had been admiring from a far was a pair called Garbo. I have put off from buying them for two reasons, one, I was hoping they would go in the sale and two I couldn't justify the original price just to wear on holiday as I do have a lot of other shoes. However, before I went away Garbo came on sale and a pair were sold with the help of a gift voucher! What Carvela say about Garbo: "Garbo by Carvela is a striking evening sandal bursting with style. With its statement wedge platform sole and thin, intricate strap design with contrasting metallic detail, add a touch of glamour to your outfit this season." Admittedly Garbo are not for the feint hearted they are ultra high and ultra strappy and are certainly not suitable for day wear unless of course you don't mind looking a bit over the top for a walk around your local town so in this case Garbo are classed as an evening shoe and quite rightly so I think. Garbo come in either black or taupe and I opted for the black version simply because black tends to go with everything. As you can see from the picture the main detailing is the straps which are as Carvela say 'intricate'. The straps are black and lined with gold metallic giving them an extra bit of detail which is a nice touch especially on an all black shoe. The straps are made from leather and will supple up a little which is nice and it helps that the leather is already soft to begin with as looking at all those straps makes your feet hurt before you even get them on! The top strap sits just around your ankle bone making them almost shoe boots but having them go this far up makes them feel quite secure on your feet which is a must when they are so high! As I said the straps are made of leather but the rest of the shoe is made from synthetic materials. The shoes are actually quite easy to get on - you wouldn't think this when looking at them! They have a black enclosed zip at the heel which opens the straps out once you open the zip and you can simply slip your foot into the shoe without getting your toes caught in the straps! The zip comes up to be in line with your ankle bone and having this zip actually encloses your feet into the shoes and they do feel quite secure. I think the most intimidating thing about these shoes is the incredibly high wedge and yes I was a little scared to take my first few steps as I could see myself toppling over very easily. The heel is 150mm which is probably the highest pair of shoes in my collection and it is teamed with a high platform of around 40mm which as mad as it sounds they are actually quite comfortable to walk in. Wedges are comfortable anyway as your foot is much more supported than walking in stilettos. I did wobble the first time I wore them but I had just taken off a flat pair of shoes to try them on but once you get used to them yes they do feel high but not ridiculously so and are actually quite easy to walk in. The heel is not your average heel as if you see from the picture there is a metallic gold insert into the curved edge of the heel which then sticks out at an angle. I think this is a nice touch to these shoes as the gold contrasts nicely against the black wedge. The shoes are peep toe but it is quite wide, your feet don't feel crushed at the front and there is plenty of wriggle room for your toes which is a major thing for me. The sole is synthetic and is quite hard to start off with which is good and if you are only wearing them as an evening shoe then the sole should last for quite a while. In the footbed and heel area of the lining (which is black) there is a little padding for your feet and in shoes this high then you definitely need it! I have to admit when I first saw these shoes I thought they would absolutely kill my feet but now I own them and have worn them quite a few times on an evening out I have to say that I find them quite comfortable. My first worry was the straps rubbing my feet but they are made of very soft leather and they didn't rub but they are not snug on your feet so the straps are not digging into your foot so you have a little breathing room but your feet are still supported. The straps soon supple and give a little but even so they don't rub or cause any irritation. Overall, these shoes have been comfortable to wear even though they are so high but being a wedge my foot feels balanced and supported which is the main thing and yes you do have to get used to walking in such high shoes and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who doesn't like wearing heels but for those that love to wear heels then these are ideal, comfortable yet glamorous they are perfect for an evening out. I'm due to go away in a little over a week again and these will definitely be coming with me! ~~~~~~~~~~ Useful Info ~~~~~~~~~~ Availability: Carvela stockists such as Kurt Geiger, Selfridges Colour(s): Black or taupe Sizes: 3 to 9 - limited due to sale Price: Was £150.00 Now £79.00 Read the complete review |

Carvela Gin
by PerfectPeaches Due to my partner's line of work it means that over the festive periods there are a lot of events to attend basically to network and get your face and name known. Now not one to turn down free food and drink I tend to go with him and of course it gives me an excuse to buy a new dress and of course a pair of shoes. We went to a ... lot of black tie events at the end of last year and beginning of this year so it makes it pretty simple as to what you wear - black dress and shoes! For my shoes I wanted something elegant, simple yet with a touch of glam and yes I probably have a pair in my wardrobe but as sales were on I knew I could get a new pair at a reduced price! The pair which has accompanied me to most of the black tie events are a pair called Gin by Carvela. I had seen them before in store but always found something else to buy but when they were in the sale I knew they would be perfect. They come in a variety of colours; black, taupe, pink and blue so there is a shade for everyone. I obviously opted for black which I needed but it also means I can wear them again quite easily with an outfit. What Carvela say: "Gin by Carvela is a silky satin evening shoe. The sleek high heel is balanced out by the platform adding comfort. This lust-have piece also features a stylish peep-toe and gorgeous beading detail on the front. These will make you look and feel amazing!" Gin are branded as an evening shoe and I have to agree with that they certainly wouldn't be suitable walking around your local supermarket at say 2pm in the afternoon! Definitely suitable for those black tie events and even wearing out on an evening to a nice bar or nice restaurant. Gin are made from fabric which has a lovely satin sheen to it which gives them that glamorous touch which I was wanting. I have found however that fabric or synthetic shoes can take a while to give and wear in unlike leather shoes but the fabric is soft and supple enough to be comfortable but firm enough to hold the shape of the shoe. It is important that the satin fabric is cared for with a suitable protector as they can stain. The main detail of these shoes is not hard to notice! The large black bow which is on the front of the shoe is adorned in black beads which add a really glamorous touch. The black beads are quite small in size but because there are a lot of them on the bow it creates a nice effect. The bow is exactly the same fabric as the shoe but is quite stiff in order to keep its shape. The beads are tightly sewn onto the shoe so hopefully they won't come off! The shoes have quite a wide peep toe which is quite comfortable but your toes are squished together a little which although not completely comfortable your feet and toes are not put in any pain or rubbing which I guess is the best thing! The lining of the shoe is black and is pretty plain so no contrasting colours, there is of course the Carvela logo on the heel area of the lining. In the footbed of the shoe there is some slight padding which is very much welcomed especially if you are wearing them for quite a while. The sides of the shoe are not overly short when you are wearing the shoes and they do offer a little security for your feet. The front of the shoe is quite wide and enables your feet to fit snugly into the shoes without feeling restricted but once the fabric gives a little they do become a little looser which although they don't gape your foot can feel a little loose especially if you have very narrow feet. The heel of the shoe is your typical slim stiletto which measures around 12cm which I don't think is bad at all considering the other heights of heel in Carvela's collection. Even though it is still high for some I find the heel height quite comfortable and as it is teamed with a platform of around 1cm it takes a little height off the heel. Both the platform and the heel are matt black in colour which does contrast a little against the satin fabric which is a nice touch to the design of the shoe. As with all stiletto heels you have to be careful when wearing them as they can scuff easily. I've now worn my pair probably over 10 times in a variety of locations and I am incredibly impressed with how comfortable they are. Yes, they need to wear in a little so the fabric can supple up a little but it doesn't take long and I didn't have any rubbing or discomfort whatsoever. The platform makes them quite comfortable and easy to walk in especially with a 12cm heel! The shoes provide just a little detail which adds a nice touch of glamour to an outfit without being over the top in 'bling' but as just enough for people to notice your shoes (make sure your toenails are nicely painted!). Definitely a recommendation from me in any of the available colours! A very comfortable shoe with just the right amount of detail and very suitable for those evenings out. 5 stars! ~~~~~~~~~ Useful Info ~~~~~~~~~ Availability: Carvela stockists - Kurt Geiger, John Lewis etc Colour(s): Black, blue, taupe and pink Sizes: 3 to 8 (may be limited if in the sale) Price: Was £120.00 Now £59.00 - Kurt Geiger prices Read the complete review |
