Hunter Regent
by shopping_jem
I purchased these Hunter Regent wellies in black after spending weeks researching which Hunters were right for me. I went for the Regent rather than the classic because the leg is slimmer on this style and I have slim calves. I chose the black, and although they are not described as "gloss" they do have more of a shine than ... non-gloss classic Hunters which looks fab.
The wellies come in a sturdy black box with Hunter logoing, and as soon as I took them out I knew they were fab! I had been unsure what size to buy because some reviews recommended buying a size up if you intendto wear them with thick socks. I am a size 4 (37) with normal to width fitting, and these in a 4 fit great with plenty of room for thick socks or welly liners. If anything, with normal socks they fit me as if they were a half size bigger than my usual boots.
On the leg, they fit much more closely than the Hunter Classics, so they are great if you prefer a less clumpy style or have slim calves. Because they are so sleek, I find that I wear them much more often than my old wellies, as they feel more similar to a normal boot. They are a bit of a pain to get off, but a boot remover does the trick (no more tricky than any other wellies, I might add) - or a strong companion! In fact, this did worry me when I first got them, as I was concerened about getting stuck, or damaging the wellies by pulling too hard, or even accidental welly tossing in a friend's hallway. With practice I have got used to removing them, and if you have any issues with manually pulling them off a welly remover makes it much easier.
The styling of the Regent is equestrian. As well as the slim fit across the calf, they do not have the buckle that the classic style does on the side. They feature the usual Hunter logo on the front, which is good quality and durable, and the sole is very sturdy and well made with good grips and a slight "heel" which I suppose would be good for stirrups if you are that way inclined! They are equally suited for city walking or muddy fields, and everything else inbetween. The inside of the wellies is a lovely soft slightly spongy material that is more comfortable than some lesser wellies. My feet also get much less cold in these than in non-Hunters because of their composition.
I have had these wellies for almost a year now, and they are excellent quality so far, and look almost as good as new. Considering the British climate, they have turned out to be one of most-worn pieces of footwear over this period. Oh yes, and they are completely waterproof.... as you might expect, but I have previously encountered leaky wellingtons and it is a very sorry experience indeed.
Overall, I would highly recommend these wellies, and they are best for a slim calf and sleek style. The Hunter website is great for giving tips on which wellies are right for you, so if you are unsure that might help (that was where I found out that this style is slim fitting) and they have all sorts of measurement charts on there to help you. Hunter Original Tall Gloss
by pearliewhites7
Ok, so I bought the short version and have been satisfied with it so far but each time I put them on I just felt that there was something missing. I then decided to treat myself to the taller version in black, as an early (very early) Christmas gift to myself and I haven't looked back since. Set me back 80 quid too but I don't really ... mind the price because they look so much nicer and of course, it's also because it's of such good quality and will definitely last.
To help maintain the look of my wellies, I bought the Hunter boot buffer and I know it was worth the buy because of how instantly it revitalised the look of my short gloss hunter boots after I'd worn them a lot and was lazy to clean or maintain them after each use.
Because these boots are much taller, they really enhance any outfit you put together to wear and I love them for that. These boots have attracted a bit of (positive) attention whilst I've worn them out on the streets; I catch people looking at them as I'm walking past them (Both women and men). You can sort of tell that they wish they had one or were brave enough to wear them. Puts a bit of smile on my face when people take notice of them.
These wellies provide adequate insulation and are fully waterproof. They're also made with vulcanised rubber so they're really strong. They provide a very good grip and have adjustable straps for a better fit. They have cushioned insoles which adds extra comfort for the wearer.
I've also bought the Hunter fleece socks in the tall range for use in the cold weather. I have to say, these boots have helped me a lot this December, especially because we've had quite a bit of rain; it's helped keep the rain out even more than when I wore my short hunter wellies and it's been a huge bonus for me.
So glad I got them! Read the complete review |

Hunter Original Wellington Boot
by ktbainbridge
Introduction:
Hunter wellies have become very popular in the last 3 years and have moved on from a wealthy middle class country staple, to a fashion lovers accessory. From summer festivals, to winter in the rain, they have made themselves a year round foot wear option. I tend to follow fashion and after pining after these for ... some time I finally caved in and purchased some at the beginning of the summer. They come in such a huge range of colours, you can go for the brights, the patterns, or decorated (for example with studs). Even special edition ones exist! I went for a timeless navy blue, as when spending so much on a product I want to make sure it is a versatile as possible and isn't just a shade which will be out of fashion the next year.
Price and availability:
There are a whole host of websites which sell Hunters. As with any designer brand, be careful not to buy fakes, so check out reputable websites only. I bought mine from a high street shop, office. I am an adults size 4 and was most excited to find children's sizes go up that high, so I saved myself a considerable amount of money by buying these in a children's size for only £40. I have also seen these foe sale in Schuh. They are such good quality and stand the test of time that buying a second hand pair is also an option, to get a better price, if that is an option you fancy.
Actual product:
Hunters are superb quality as you would expect for the price paid. The material is thick and very hard wearing. I haven't got so much as a scratch on mine and they have been quite heavily used. As they are a childs size they have a cute printed area on the inside for you to write your name so they don't get muddled up with your friends and always make it back to you.
Even though the boots are thick and fantastic quality, they still have the ease of movement when you bend your feet and it doesn't feel like they are really inflexible and hard to move in. It makes them OK to wear when you are going for a long walk, as they won't get uncomfortable like I have with cheaper wellington boots in the past. The soles are also hard wearing, and hardly wear down. As long as my feet always stay the same size, I can't imagine having to replace these.
I have also worn these in the summer when it was hot, but raining (not for a festival- I am definitely not that exciting!) and my feet did not get too hot, like you could imagine.
Conclusion:
I know these boots are a little extra than what most people would normally pay, but I think they are worth it, so long as you are going to get plenty of use out of them. I almost feel they are an investment piece, as I could quite easily sell mine now and get back almost what I paid, even though they have been well used. There is just one thing to note, I would advise trying on before you buy, to confirm the exact size required as I found they came up half a size smaller than I had anticipated.
