Carvela Atomic
by carlz2001uk
When I was shopping in Debenhams a couple of months ago I went a bit mad in the blue cross sale and was putting all sorts in my basket that I hadn't intended to buy. Prices were so cheap it would have been rude not to!
One of my favourite purchases that day was the Atomic sling back court shoes by Carvela. I needed some ... sensible shoes for work and as the weather was still half decent at that point I was delighted to see these shoes had original RRP of £75 but were just £29 on that day. I always see bargains to be had online for shoes but my shoe size can vary significantly from shop to shop and so I'm always wary of buying shoes online. I tried my usual size on and it was nipping near the toe so had to try a 6 as there weren't any half sizes. The 6 fit like a dream and with a swipe of a card they were mine all mine!
Comfy to wear, the lining is synthetic but feels soft and the buckle fastening on the sling back is ideal if they feel they are nipping or if you have had them on all day and you just simply need to let them breathe for a while. I had contemplated buying the 5 and adjusting the back but my heels were literally hanging over the back and they looked like they were far too small for me.
I'm not usually a fan of rounded toes but with the Atomic it just doesn't bother me and they look lovely and quite classic. The heel is low, making them ideal for work, as it is just 2.5 inches. The tan sole contrasts nicely against the rich navy shoe.
I also have the Carvela Fallhard which are very similar but the back of the shoe isn't open with the buckle and I love both shoes equally. They are such classic shoes and seem to go with anything. They also seem to last forever and I have worn the Atomic pretty much every day to work for about 5 or 6 months and they hardly look worn. I have other shoes which have needed re-heeling in a shorter space of time. A basic polish once a week keeps them looking clean and new.
I have seen the Atomic also available in a nude colour which again will go with anything and perfect for an up to date look. I was quite alarmed when my gran liked my shoes and asked where I had bought them; I lied and told her Next!
They are a lovely lovely shoe and I adore them to pieces but I don't wear them on a night out even though they would go with most of my wardrobe. I find the small heel to be a little conservative and much prefer to glam it up with a really high heel when going out, but for work they are ideal. I work in a hospital so I can never ever park anywhere near my office and these shoes aren't going to cripple me getting to the office each day!

Kurt Geiger Shoes
by MsTricia
Kurt Geiger is an American-owned footwear retailer that has a number of stores and concessions around the globe. Since opening a store in London in the 60s the brand has expanded and grown with a lot of success.
I recently visited the Covent Garden branch in central London as I pass it every day on my way to work and through ... the window all the shoes all look so glamorous! Inside the branch, the shop is laid out very intricately with added visual merchandising of mirrors and glass everywhere making it all very chic. They currently sell men and women shoes with the odd accessory like purses. The staff in this branch were all very young, attractive females in their early to mid twenties who (bless their souls!) were wearing sky scraper heels. Poor things I have no idea how they do all day in them, but will admit they do look fabulous!
After trying on numerous pairs of 6 inch spiked heeled court shoes which I could barely sit in, let alone stand or walk in reality hit me and I gave up the dream (which also would have cost me £110 yikes!) haha. Back on planet earth I purchased a pair of simple flat sandals which were in the sale and only £30. Still a bit much for a sandal, but I am aware I am really paying for the name more than the comfort or quality of the shoe even!
The heels I have to say are uncomfortable and I cannot imagine myself wearing anywhere other than travelling via car and sitting down the whole night. They do all look amazing, and having never owned a pair of their heels personally, my sister has and she has had a pair for 2 years so I will say the quality is there. With the flats, these are much more comfortable (although I have had better!) and I hope these sandals will see me through a good few more summers! The customer service in store was courteous so I can't complain on this front either, so overall I do like this brand. Read the complete review |

Kurt Geiger Carvela Shoes
by sympatic
There is a timeless quality to these Kurt Geiger Carvela high heel shoes and the pair I have still look as good as the day I bought them almost two years ago, sure the heel and sole have some wear on them but the actual shoes themselves still has that glossy look to them and the fact that I have a black pair means that they retain their ... usefulness and are not so subject to changes in fashion. I remember paying around the £80 mark for them which was an absolute bargain.
These are not the most comfortable of shoes to wear due to the narrow 6 inch heel on them that really raises the foot arches but that also means that my legs are wonderfully defined in these and as they are only for formal occasions it is not as though I wear them a lot. Within the Carvela range there is lots of choice so if that height of heel is too much you can find something to suit your own personal style. The shoe is nice and slim and very elegant with two cross over straps that slot through small matt silver buckles.
The build quality is excellent, they have a lovely glossy look, the heel is very strong and stable while dancing about in them. These are a very feminine shoe that always makes me feel attractive and desirable, the extra few inches it adds as well is another plus point and they are perfect with that little black dress that is a fashion staple.
The down side is the price, getting them for under a ton was a real plus as I have seen them retailing for over £125 in some department stores however you can occasionally catch a bargain like I did so it is well worth keeping your eyes peeled. Read the complete review |
