New Look Concealed Wedge Soft Fur Lined Boots
by Holland1
I bought these boots a month or so ago, when New Look were having a 25% discount event on all footwear. I bought a pair of casual boots, and ended up buying these for nights out to give me a bit of height. The boots confused me at first, as the reason I was drawn to them was because they looked really comfortable, being faux-fur lined ... and they looked almost UGG-like in style, like slipper boots. When I picked them up I was surprised to find that the heel was hard, because of the hidden wedge. I was put off by this, expecting them to be uncomfortable, but in actual fact they are one of the comfiest items of footwear I've ever owned!
The boots come in three colours - black, brown and grey. I opted for black because I had already bought a pair of brown boots, and I thought black was the safest option for wearing these on nights out. They have a hidden wedge which adds a good few inches to your height, but without looking like you're wearing heels. The sole is thick rubber, and has a great grip which stops you being able to feel any cobbles or grit when walking, and also makes them safe to walk in when it's icy.
The boots look cosy without being frumpy. They give a good boost to my height, and I must admit I feel quite confident wearing these. I always find I have to concentrate when wearing any kind of heels, and this can sometimes detract from the feminine look I'm trying to achieve. These boots are so comfortable, however, I don't really have to think about it too much, so I just bounce around feeling very feminine. They are also very easy to walk in, and don't squash my toes or cause blisters. I have worn them for nights out and my feet have been as comfortable at the end of the night as they were when I left the house.
The fur lining makes the boots really warm, which is ideal in the current cold weather. I took these to Brussels for a recent city break, and they kept my feet nice and cosy when we were out and about each evening in the sleet and snow. I tend to wear them with leggings mostly, and they do gape a little at the front, but this doesn't really allow drafts in because the fleece lining provides insulation.
I have been lucky enough to avoid wearing these in the rain so far, and I wouldn't be keen on wearing them in torrential rain as I'm not sure if they might start looking a bit tatty due to the outside being a fabric material. I wouldn't worry too much about wearing them if it was only light rain, although the fact they're not made for rainy weather warrants a star knocking off in my opinion, as we do get a lot of rain in this country.
The boots currently cost £29.99, however I bought mine when they had 25% off so they cost me around £22 which is a good price for a quality pair of stylish but comfortable winter boots. These come highly recommended, so don't be put off by the hidden wedge. Read the complete review |

New Look Double Buckle Ankle Boots
by Holland1
On a recent lunch break in town, I happened to be passing New Look when I remembered I'd never got round to replacing last year's winter boots which were looking scruffy and no longer waterproof. New Look is one of my first options when shoe shopping, as they're such good value for money and have a great choice.
These brown ... boots caught my eye, and I remembered reading some good reviews about them on here. I fancied brown instead of black, as I seem to end up with black boots every year, and as I wear a lot of creams and browns at this time of year I thought it would help me look more colour co-ordinated. They are also available in black, however.
The boots are ankle high which is great for me because I can't be doing with the faffing of trying to get into knee high boots and them having them slouching throughout the day. They don't have a zip so it's a case of just pulling them onto your foot, and the two buckles at the side are a nice decorative touch. You could adjust the top buckle if you were finding the boots a bit loose or tight, but they don't slouch or anything due to being ankle boots and reasonably firm material. They have a rounded toe area, which I prefer to pointed as there's less chance of my toes getting squashed.
The heel on these boots is only very slight, maybe a centimetre, and although this doesn't really add anything to your height it makes the boots feel more feminine because they make the clicking noise when you're walking. I find the sole is good quality and protects my feet from the elements, although I try not to wear these when it's raining too heavily because I worry about them spoiling or the colour running. I feel safe driving in these boots, this is quite a big consideration for me, because I can't drive in high heels so I try to avoid impractical footwear because otherwise I feel compelled to change into trainers when I'm driving somewhere, which adds to the faffing and time factor.
Comfort wise, I can wear these boots all day in work without any discomfort, which is unusual for me because my feet are slightly different sizes, so I tend to find one foot is always slightly less comfortable than the other. In this case, the only criticism I have is that after a LOT of walking, my little toe rubs ever so slightly on one foot, but not enough to cause a blister, and again I think my oddly sized feet are to blame for this!
I have so far worn these boots with jeans or leggings, and they are really versatile with different outfits. I don't really wear skirts but they would look great with a little floaty short skirt teamed with tights, and the top buckle means you can reduce the gap between your leg and the boot, as this is something I hate sometimes about wearing ankle boots with leggings as you can get a big gaping hole. They look really fashionable, with an almost "cowboy" feel about them, and without scrutinising them you wouldn't tell they're not real leather.
The boots seem to be good quality, although I haven't had them very long I can tell they are well made and it will take a lot of wear and tear before they start falling apart. I have previously had boots from New Look which have literally lasted for years before they needed replacing. I trust New Look's products and this is one of the reasons I shop there - I don't have to weigh up how long something will last when deciding whether to buy it or not.
When I bought these boots, they were priced at £19.99, but there was 25% of footwear so I only ended up paying £14.99. For a good quality pair of boots which are also reasonably fashionable, I think this is excellent value.

New Look Laceless Sports Pump
by stacey10304
I recently bought these from new look in black when I was after some cheap white pumps to wear during the day. I originally went in for some of the ones that comes with laces but they didnt have any in dark colours in my size so I decided to try a pair of these. At first I was a bit dubious as I thought they wouldnt fit very well and ... would be loose on my feet with them not having any laces, but this is not the case - somehow they are a snug fit and dont 'slob' off my feet as I expected them to.
I have only seen these in black and white and they cost £6.99 from new look. They are very basic with absolutely no colour or detail to them, this however means they are quite versatile as they can be worn with most things. I sometimes like to jazz mine up a bit with colourful laces.
They are very comfortable to wear and have a decent sole in terms of thickness. The shoe itself is quite soft and flexible, I have had problems with new look shoes in the past being quite stiff and hurting the backs of my ankles and giving me blisters etc, but these are very comfortable to wear and I do quite a bit of walking about in them!
Overall I would definitely recommend these if you are looking for a nice simple pump. Personally I prefer the ones with laces but that doesnt but me off too much as I can add laces to these and they fit just as well, and they are a bargain for £6.99! Read the complete review |
