“ Brand: Animal „
When I unwrapped these slippers on Christmas morning my heart sunk, not because they're not très cool (they are) but because I simply don't like the overly bulky style of slippers which is all the rage at the moment. However, after throwing away some of my old slippers (I really do have too many pairs) I decided to give them a try as poor circulation means my feet get very cold whenever I'm not wearing socks.
You can't see it from the piccie above, but these are mule slippers (no back in them) but the way the fur puffs up you'd be forgiven for thinking they are actually full foot slippers by appearance. The inside of the slippers is furry, although (thank god) it's not covered in the same long hair as the outside as imagine how awful that would feel between your toes! The inside fur is soft and cosy making these the most comfortable slippers I think I've ever worn.
The sole is made of a thick rubbery plastic, which is great if like me you have wooden flooring as it prevents me slipping and sliding around even when the floor has just been mopped or polished. I will say here though that the hair on the slippers is so long that it does get trapped beneath the sole of the slippers so they might start looking grubby if you regularly wear them while you're mopping up. Or if your floors are particularly dirty! It also doesn't help that the slippers are an extremely pale pink and white speckled effect, which doesn't go anywhere towards hiding the dirt.
Considering how bulky these slippers are they are surprisingly easy to walk and balance in. This is thanks to the fact that the actual foot of the slipper is a standard slipper size and it's just the hair which makes them look bigger than they actually are. I still don't feel right coming down the stairs in them as I've had bad experiences before with these extra-large slippers (well, my daughter has when she fell down the stairs while wearing a stupid pair of bulky Spongebob slippers) but if you're used to wearing this style you'll be fine.
As I've mentioned, these slippers do get dirty very quickly. They can go through the washing machine on a coolish wash and this will bring them up nice and clean, but they do take some drying so make sure you've got a spare section of radiator to stick them on for an hour after washing. Another thing I'll tell you about is the fact that the hair does come out slightly, to be fair not so much that you'd notice if you have long hair anyway as the hairs will just mingle with your own hair on the floor and furnishings! I've been wearing them for around six weeks now and the hairs have just stopped coming out, but personally I didn't feel it was much of a problem anyway.
£10 from most large shoe shops.
==Animal Big Foot Women Slippers==
I do like my big furry slippers so when I saw these a few years back in my local Animal High street store I didn't hesitate to pay the £19.99 pence that was being asked for them. I have since been online and can see that you can pick them up brand new for around £10 now so it is well worth shopping around for them.
The Animal slippers come in two colours and I opted for the light blue colour as the light pink just really isn't me. The slippers are of the backless and slip on variety and are rather chunky so will not be to every ones taste. I know my mum needs slippers with a back so as she doesn't fall out of them (that'd be all that wine!).
The slippers are really what the name suggests in the fact that they look like a big animals foot, probably some sort of woolly mammoth if I had to pin it on one animal. They are especially hairy and from time to time the hair does come out although not a great deal and even though I am a contact lens wearer, this has never been a problem for me.
The fact that they are hairy and in close contact with the floor probably means you will have to do less sweeping of the floor but more cleaning of your slippers! This is a problem as the soles of these slippers are very thick and hard wearing (perfect for in the garden but a shame the hair side is not suited to outdoors wear!). The soles were really the main draw back for me when wearing the slippers because I would thud up and down my hard flooring and make a fair bit of noise. This is not ideal when I had just put my little man down as it is extremely hard to be quiet and tip toe off in them.
The fact that they are so comfy and warming is of course the real bonus with these slippers and the main reason for my purchasing them in the first place. I find they are quite heavy though so when I have my legs crossed the slipper will more often than not drop off my foot. This weight of the slipper of course adds to the difficulty in lifting my feet when walking and thus the flipping and the flopping of the slippers creates even more noise on the hard floor. For people who don't have hard flooring these slippers will be noise free as on carpet I have no problems at all with them. Thus I have moved them to my mums house, no not so she can stumble around in a wine fuelled jig type dance waiting to fall and break her ankle but so that when I visit (daily) I can slop around on her carpeted flooring making no noise but keeping my always cold toes snug!
==Who Would Have Thought Slippers Could Be So Noisy!==
All in all I would say that they are no a bad pair of slippers, I do think I probably paid over the odds for them and had I paid £10 I probably wouldn't care that they now live at Mums. However I did pay double this and am not especially taken with them. I feet the thick, chunky and heavy sole is highly unnecessary for a slipper especially a pair that can't sensibly be worn in the garden (unless you want to bring the outside back in with you). They are too heavy for my liking and for these reasons they have to get a fairly poor score of 2 stars out of a possible 5.
I would only recommend them to people who have a fully carpeted house and who buy them at the cheap £10 price.
The only good thing to come of it was having to go out and buy more slippers! What can a girl do!
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
