Asda Woody Wellies
Advantages: Look great, accurate size, celebrate Toy Story without spending a fortune
Disadvantages: A rubbery feel inside the wellies
The world has gone Toy Story mad. Again. And again I have a small child who wants the Woody and Buzz 'stuff'. It was the same with the first two films as my older girls' wanted the toys and pyjamas, now the next installment is out and three year old Hollie's eyes are drawn to anything from the Toy Story brand in any shop we happen to be in.
I refuse to buy the toys as she has far too many already, so she's resigned now to recycling (aka. claiming!) her sisters' old Toy Story stuff, but when she asked for these wellies in Asda I couldn't say no.
They are standard childrens wellies with absolutely nothing to set them apart from any other brand apart from the Woody decoration. Each wellie has a full length picture of Woody on the outside with the entire wellie being covered in small 'Woody' [logo] motifs. They look as cowboy like as any pair of blue wellies could look, with Asda adding a row of (spooky looking) cow heads along the sole. I think these wellies are quite smart, although possibly designed to be more suitable for a boy than my uber girly looking daughter.
The wellies come up slightly higher than Hollies previous pair of Dora wellies, which is a bonus as it keeps more of her legs dry when she's messing around in the water or snow. They're waterproof (obviously, but not always true when it comes to kids wellies) and as far as I can tell they don't let any water in, Hollies socks are usually dry when she takes the wellies off but occasionally they do get a bit damp. This could be due to water getting in at the top of the welly, but even if this is the case it could be solved because I think the wellies definitely gape too much at the top and a more slimline design would keep even more water out.
The sizes are correct, Hollie is a size nine and this size welly fits her perfectly with extra room for socks. I've bought Asda wellies for the kids before and have always been impressed with the accuracy of the sizing, I wasn't disappointed with these and they're a really nice fit all round. The sole is quite thick and I swear Hollie looks a little bit taller in these wellies, it's not my imagination! It's not! The grips are deep and there was no sliding around when we had all that snow over Chrimbo - no sliding unless Hollie wanted to I should say!
The inner is shinier than I'd have liked them to be, and that's not such a trivial criticism as it sounds. The shininess obviously helps the wellies to be waterproof but Hollie always says they feel cold when she first puts them on. They feel very rubbery inside and I think if they were my wellies I'd want them to have more of a fabric feel for comfort, they don't make her feet sweat though so it must be good quality rubber!
£6 from Asda.
Summary: Let the world know you're a Woody fan!
