Avon Toning Flip Flops
Advantages: Decent price, look good
I first heard of Fit Flops about 12 months ago and they were a little out of my price range for flip flops (even if they do promise to tone your legs and bum!) so I was pleased to see that Avon had created their version in time for Summer.
I saw them in the Avon catalogue as we have a rep at work - they were on special promotion at £9.99 and at that price I thought 'why not?' - just in time for Summer 2010.
My Avon toning fit flops arrived and they certainly looked the part. Mine are white with a grey sole and a top part that is quite wide, in a white rubbery feel finish, with two lines of silver sequins to decorate. They look moulded and quite comfortable.
One thing to note if you're giving these as a gift - they didn't come in a box, just a plastic Avon bag and they didn't have any sort of instructions, I sort of expected them to advise a short walk first to get used to them or maybe advice on exercises - anyway, for a tenner I wasn't too put out, they looked the part and I was looking forward to toning up!
So, the look good - not just with sporty style wear like joggers, or leggings, but also with blue jeans, with the shoes being white. So I popped them on for a light 3 mile walk with my husband on a sunny day.
The shoes were a good fit - and felt bouncy to walk, and all was good. I could feel the backs of my calves getting worked out and all was good. But about 30 minutes into the walk I felt the top part of the shoe, above the toe post on the right hand side, on my left foot, start to rub. Ow ow ow with every step. I managed to complete the walk (I didn't have much of a choice!) and get home - but by that time my left foot had been rubbed raw, the was a 50p sized open wound where the blister that had formed had burst.
I have never had this problem with any other shoes and I am disappointed that shoes designed to tone you are unfit for walking in! I have been too scared to use them since. Now, I know these shoes don't rub every one that tries them, but nearly 10 months on I still have a dark scar on my foot, so I have to share my experience too. I think the problem is that because the shoes are made of plastic they don't really 'give' like other shoes and short of wearing plasters all over my feet I really can't bear using them again. I have no idea if this would have happened with branded Fit Flops but to be honest, I think I will be sticking to proper walking shoes which are made for the job - much more comfortable.
Summary: Not for me at all
