My Birkenstocks are my favourite sandals! i have two pairs - the two strap version and the one strap version and love them both.

They ar enot the cheapest of sandals - both pairs cost around £30 each, however the wear I have got out of them, and there's plenty more left, will far outweigh the initial cost.

The straps are made from a man-made leather-looking material and the inside is a bit like felt, ever so soft and no rubbing unlike other shoes. The footbed is what they call Birko-flor. It's a bit like a tough suede come cork material, not the best description I know but it is definitely not leather and is a hard-wearing easy to clean material. The footbed is also moulded to your foot, wellnot your foot but it has an arch and a ridge just under where your toes meet your foot. This is called an anatomical footbed and helps you to walk and stand in a good position. My friend has fallen arches and says her Birkenstocks are very supportive.

Birkenstocks tend to come up a little on the large size. I am a 5 and ordered a 5 but then had to send them back and get a 4! They also do a narrow width on most models so if you have narrow feet go for this.

I would love to buy more styles and pairs but the cost is prohibitive at the moment. Hopefully one day I'll own a range of colours.
