Carks Un Ship sandles
Advantages: Comfortable to wear easy to adjust
Disadvantages: Don't handle wet conditions well
These sandals are a pair I bought from Clarks they appealed to me due to the open toe design and the adjustable straps across the toe and the bridge of the foot. I personally wanted these sandals for walking on days out pushing my new son in his pram or chasing his bigger brother at the park so comfort was the prime deciding factor not fashion look.
They are part of Clarks Unstructured range which are designed to be light weight and comfortable. The shoes currently come in two colour choices of black and bone, they have in the past done other colours such as pale blue which I also have.
The style is very simple two adjustable straps that slot into the leather and fasten by Velcro. In the long months that I have had these there has been no problems with the Velcro at all and it still remains as sticky as when I first got them. The benefit of the Velcro adjust I find is that they can start off fairly tight and as my feet swell in in the heat I can loosen them off very quickly and easily. The rear of the shoe has never rubbed or caused blisters in anyway due to the adjustability of the shoe.
The base of the sole is I think some man made material that is very light these are moulded into a curved shoe shape that lifts around the side of the feet. The shape of them I find to be very comfortable and cushions my feet as I walk. The grips underneath the sole are cut in and whilst they are very helpful at gripping on tarmac paths they do fair less well on damp grass and woodchips at the park and I have slipped on occasions when wearing these so wouldn't recommend these as a pair for walking shoes for hill climbing in the summer.
The insides of the sandal are leather and this makes for a very comfortable fit again and even when wearing these all day I don't find my feet become uncomfortable and the open toe design stops my feet becoming overly sweaty. My only problem with the lining is that if it gets wet by say a puddle or damp grass it can make the insides of the shoe to be very slippery and I have noticed that until my feet and the shoe are dry which can be anything up to 20 minutes on a warm day that my feet can slip inside the shoe which can lead to me tripping over.
The look of the sandal is casual and these are very much a shoe for the weekend or days out. I personally don't think the sandals are smart enough for work or smart occasions. I tend to wear these with cropped trousers and jeans; again I don't think they look quite right with skirts and dresses as they are not smart enough.
The leather of the sandals is nice and soft which does make them comfortable to wear despite them being very soft they do wear well and there has been no damage to the leather despite some rough treatment on climbing frames at the park. They are not the easiest to clean in common with most sandals due to the straps but I find that they can be done quickly even if my hands get a bit mucky in the process.
Overall these are a very comfortable shoe to wear for casual wear they are nice and lightweight so you do feel like you are walking on air. Their adjustable straps are easy to do and remain fixed in place. I do find that they become a bit slippery in wet conditions so they are definitely a shoe for warm sunny days. Currently on half price offer £27.49 from Clarks website I think they are a great buy for walking to the park and around the shops.
Summary: A good casual shoe for warm days out thought they fair less well when wet
