“ Brand: Carvela / Type: High Heels „
I have a fantastically high, fantastically gorgeous pair of shoes called Arena by Carvela in my shoe wardrobe - yes, I really do have a wardrobe (well, part of a wardrobe) dedicated to my massive and very impressive, shoe collection. I adore heels, the bigger the better, and I rarely wear flats, unless they are for a specific purpose. I feel dull and a little bit depressed in flats and I even like to wear heels to do my grocery shopping.
I bought these fantastic deep plum coloured shoes for full price (£129) approximately one year ago in town and they were reduced about six months afterwards to £49, but I tried to put that out of my mind. I had been lusting after these shoes for weeks as they were on display in the shop window, and every time I walked by I just used to stand there and ogle at them through the glass. I knew that just as soon as I'd tried one on, I'd have to buy them, so I tried to put off for as long as I could. Well, at least until the end of the month when I got paid.
Carvela is one of my favourite brands in shoes. I always think they make such a sophisticated and glamorous looking shoe and the quality, style and fit are always second to none. The Arena shoe is feminine, glamorous, stunning, dramatic and really eye catching and I simply love the gorgeous little bow detail they have put at the front, which really catches the eye. These shoes look fantastic with either a smart skirt or a pair of good, well-fitted, tailored trousers.
Arena comes in either metallic, purple or black. I toyed with the idea of black for a while as I thought it was a colour which would go well with most of the clothes in my wardrobe, but I finally settled on the purple as I thought they were just a little bit different. Besides, it was the purple pair I had been lusting after in the shop window for so long. The colour of these shoes is rich and deep and more a deep dark plum really, than a purple. To say they are simply 'purple' doesn't really do them justice or really describe truly the depth of the colour.
They have a gorgeous (and comfortable) rounded toe with the same coloured bow (in fabric with a tiny gold chain), which to me, really is the finishing touch. Obviously, at this price, the shoes are made of real leather and although the heel height is fairly high at almost five inches, they also have a contrasting and equally high platform, which makes the shoe a lot easier to walk in than you might imagine.
The leather is soft and supple and despite walking and standing up in these quite a lot, I have never found that they have rubbed at my feet or toes or caused me any discomfort at all. My feet are a size five and my shoe is also the same size. I have worn these with stockings, tights and also with bare legs and every time I have worn them I have received compliments and positive comments about how nice they look.
I actually feel more confident in a high heel and I think they enhance the shape of my legs, in particular my calves. These shoes are my pride and joy, I simply love them. I am a real high heel shoe fiend anyway, but these particular shoes are so gorgeous I wear them whenever I need to feel or look more confident or just want to look stylish. They brighten up my outfits and add a splash of colour and style.
I love them and really recommend them as an investment.
Even though I won't be returning to work until October this year it is never too late to start adding to my work shoe collection. Even though I am on maternity leave I do still attend the odd work event, seminar and meeting so I do still have to dress smart. Most of my work shoes have pretty much died of death and last year I did buy a few pairs in replacement but once I see a shoe sale I can't help myself but this way I can purchase new shoes for work without forking out so much money.
A pair I managed to pick up at the end of last year are called Arena and they were a pair I had liked previously but I had always opted for something else instead which was a shame as these shoes are smart and sophisticated. Arena are by Carvela, which is one of my favourite brands as I feel they always provide high quality shoes which are made well and they last.
What Carvela say:
"Arena by Carvela is a cute court with contrasting high heel and platform. With the bow detail to the toe adding a touch of femininity, soften up tailored trousers; one of this seasons key wardrobe staples."
Arena comes in black, metallic and purple. I bought the purple version which has a patent finish. Even though it is classed as purple it is more of a burgundy almost plum colour which I preferred over the black version as the colour is a little different and adds a dash of colour to a grey or black suit. The detail on these shoes is the little fabric bow, again in a plum colour, placed on top of the round toe. There is a gold little chain which is meant to be the knot of the bow which adds a little colour to the shoes. The inside of the shoes are the same deep plum colour which matches the shoes, there is a little padding for extra comfort for the balls of your feet and heels.
The shoes are made from leather which even though a little more rigid than I was expecting the leather does soften up quite a lot but not too much so they gape at the sides. I found the shoes do stretch a little when the leather gives after wearing them a few times but fortunately they didn't become too loose on my feet. I did buy my normal size and I found them to fit me well, a little snug but not too tight and once the leather gives they felt like the perfect fit. Because the leather is soft I didn't have any rubbing or redness whatsoever.
The heels are a stiletto heel but not over slim so they are quite easy to walk in. The heels are around 11cm which isn't too high for me and I found that the platform which is just over 1cm takes a little height off the heel and adds balance to the shoes. The heel and the platform even though are the same colour as the shoes the finish is different as it is similar to a suede material which gives a nice contrast to the patent, glossy finish of the shoes.
I've worn these shoes just a handful of times at a few seminars which of course involves a lot of walking around and mingling so I tend to be on my feet throughout the seminar and it is essential for my shoes to be comfortable as it can be rather painful if not. I found Arena comfortable as soon as I started to walk in them. They are not too high and the platform nicely balances out the heel and makes them incredibly easy to walk in. The round provides enough room for your toes and the front part of your foot and they don't feel too tight once on. The leather is soft around the foot and there was no rubbing or redness which was great as I do wear them for long periods of time. Because of the patent finish any scuffs will show up easily so I do try and be careful when I am wearing them. But overall they are a great shoe for walk, comfortable, stylish and classy.
Arena can be purchased at any Carvela retailer but I managed to buy mine online at Kurt Geiger in their sale. They originally retailed at £130.00 but I paid £49.00 which I think is a very reasonable price for such a great pair of shoes. I think the original price is a little high and this was the main reason why I hadn't bought them until they were in the sale. Sizes range from 3 to 8 but bear in mind they are in the sale and the size range may be reduced.
