A nice pair of platform slingbacks

When it came to being a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding in September this year I had a suitable pair of shoes already pre-purchased which suited the dress perfectly. I had bought them in the sale purposely for the wedding as I had kept my eye on them willing them to become a sale item and they did.

The pair of shoes I am talking about (and reviewing) are called Assort and they are made by one of my favourite brands - Carvela. I am a big fan of Carvela as although they carry higher price tags than high street stores they are not ridiculously expensive where you have to take a second mortgage out just to buy a pair. Also, Carvela's shoes are incredibly well made and last for years.

      Carvela's description of Assort:-

"Assort by Carvela is a super high statement slingback platform sandal."

Assort comes in either a deep blue or Taupe and I opted for the Taupe which in reality is actually a bit more cream and light than the picture which suited my bridesmaid dress just perfectly. Regardless of colour the shoes are exactly the same. The lining of the shoe is the same colour as the shoe itself as is the slingback strap on the inside so there is no contrast in colours.

The shoe has a deep open toe which is wide enough for your toes to be comfortable and not crunched together which can happen with narrower peep toed shoes. The strap over the front of your foot is narrow in the middle but wider at the sides of your foot which does support your foot somewhat. Over the strap is a contrasting bow. Although the same colour as the shoe the material is more of a matt effect rather than a patent effect which adds a nice touch.

The shoes are made from a synthetic material which is incredibly supple and does manage to loosen with wear. Sometimes I do find that shoes made from a synthetic material can be a bit tough on the feet but I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried them on but then again there is not much material around your foot anyway for it to be uncomfortable! The strap which goes around your heel is also made from the same synthetic material and is adjusted by a round buckle. The strap is quite wide so it does act as a good support for your foot.

The stiletto heel is a rather high 13cm which is teamed with a double platform which widens as it gets nearer towards the heel. You can clearly see the two platforms as one is in a contrasting material albeit in the same colour. Despite being rather high personally I don't find them hard to walk in or even to get my balance in as I am so used to wearing high heels and that the platform acts as a support too and takes a little height off the heel so you don't actually think you are wearing a pair of shoes with a 13cm heel!

Since having my pair now for over a month I have worn them not just to my cousin's wedding but to several other events and they have comfortable to wear although they are not the most comfortable pair of shoes I have worn and I do find there isn't enough support around the sides of your feet which although it isn't a major issue to me it does annoy me a little. However, the bow over the front of the foot doesn't rub and it certainly isn't too tight as I was expecting it to be.

The synthetic made material is quite supple to start with although don't expect it to soften like leather would but it holds the same of the shoe well (what little shape it has!) and the strap around the ankle doesn't stretch meaning you probably won't have to change the buckle hole! But like all Carvela shoes they are well made and generally comfortable although I wouldn't have paid the full price for them.

Overall, Assort is a lovely pair of shoes and went incredibly well with my bridesmaid dress which they were intended for and they have also been used for a variety of other things and have proved comfortable but I would like a little more support around the foot especially as they are quite high (both heel and platform) and I am pleased I bought them in the sale rather than at full price. Would I recommend? Well, yes and no. Not my favourite pair and but will come in handy.
