A lovely pair of wedge shoes

For valentines day this year off my other half I received gift vouchers to my favourite shoe store of all time; Kurt Geiger. He knows me so well and it certainly put a smile on my face to say the least. I have a very long wish list on the Kurt Geiger website and as soon as I was able to get to a store I put my vouchers towards a pair of shoes I'd wanted for a while.

The pair I bought we're from the new Carvela collection but can obviously be purchased from Kurt Geiger both online or in store. The pair in question are called Kuchina and I chose them mainly for the colour of them and that they have a wedge heel really attracted me to them. Kuchina come in either pink or white. I opted for the pink (fits in with valentines day!) and for the summer months I think pink is a bit more colourful.

      What Carvela say:

"Kuchina by Carvela is an open toe wedge sandal with on trend oversized corsage detail. The style will flatter and elongate legs with its stacked platform, super high heel and dainty ankle strap so wear with bare legs and a cute skirt to really show them off!"

Now I don't personally agree with the description of wearing them with a cute skirt but I would definitely recommend them to wear with maxi dresses whether during the day or on an evening. They are classed as an evening shoe by Carvela but I think you can get away wearing them during the day if you team them with the right outfit.

What I instantly liked about these shoes is the oversized leather corsage which is a lovely shade of deep red, plum and pink which contrasts nicely against the dusty pink colour of the shoes. The leather flower is incredibly delicate to the touch and because the leather is so soft I do expect the petals to curl slightly with wear which is a shame but hopefully as these won't be constantly worn that this won't happen for a while.

The colour of the shoe is a lovely dusty pink which has a pale gold leather strap which goes around the ankle/ heel. It is fastened by a small gold buckle and has several holes in order it can be adjusted. I did find when I first wore them that the strap does give a little so I have used two different buckle holes. The main strap over the foot is quite wide at the sides which helps support your foot whilst in the shoes. This strap is the same colour as the platform/ wedge but is mostly covered by the corsage.

The shoes have a wide peep toe which gives quite enough room for your toes and the front of your foot to feel comfortable. The lining of the shoe is a bright metallic gold which features a plum coloured binding around the sides (same colour as part of the corsage). The gold lining really contrasts with the colours of the shoe and corsage. There is a little padding in the lining which provides a bit of comfort for your feet which as these are quite high it is very much welcomed especially if you wear these for quite a few hours. The shoes are made from leather so the straps with give a little with wear so if you find them a little tight to begin with chances are that they will soon become loose with wear and time.

The heel height of the wedge is around 140mm which is quite a substantial height but it is teamed with a stacked platform which does take off some of the height so they don't really feel so high when you do walk around in them. However, if you are not used to wearing such high shoes then I do suggest you go in store and try them on as they are high but because they are in a wedge style then they are generally easier to walk in than say a stiletto heel! The stacked platform is two tone in colour, the main part is the same dusky pink as the shoe but then the sole part is cream/ white in colour which again contrasts with the other colours of the shoes.

When I tried these on in store I did find them a little high to walk in but after a few steps I was find, certainly no wobbling! Because they are a wedge they are a lot more comfortable to walk in and my foot didn't feel as arched as it would in a pair of stilettos. The strap around the front of my foot is wide enough for your feet to feel secure and the strap around the ankle just adds a little more support and keeps your foot in shoe. I've worn my pair several times on holiday and although they were not uncomfortable they did seem a little tight around my foot but as I said above once the leather gives a little this tightness soon went. There is not enough of the shoe to actually rub your feet which is a good thing and I generally found these comfortable to wear walking around on an evening, although my feet did beg for my slippers once back!

If I hadn't of had my vouchers than I may have bypassed these shoes but as I only needed to put a small amount towards them on top of my vouchers then I am definitely pleased with my purchase. These are definitely a gorgeous pair of shoes which are surprisingly comfortable considering they are so high but due to the high price tag I'd recommend them only to those who are definitely willing and wanting to shell out their price tag.
