“ Brand: Carvela / Type: Flats „
I don't need any excuse to buy a pair of shoes as soon as I receive an email telling me that the summer sale at Kurt Geiger is starting this is just fatal. I do try and be sensible when buying shoes in the sale and only buy shoes that I will wear regularly rather than shoes I will probably wear once or twice. Since the sale started I have bought a few pairs of shoes as I just couldn't help myself but it is a good way of getting something for a lot less money. One pair I had been contemplating when at full price was a pair by Carvela called 'Light'.
I wear flat shoes probably a lot more now than I ever have done and sometimes when I go for a few drinks with the girls say on a weeknight it is nice not to wear heels but I do like to have a few pairs of flat shoes solely for evenings out, something a little more glamorous than just a pair of plain ballet shoes which is where Carvela Light came in. Despite being a pair of flat shoes they have been 'blinged' up just enough making them ideal for evening wear without looking a bit boring. They do come in either black or pink but I opted for the black pair.
Carvela Light are made from a gorgeous black satin which even when new is incredibly soft and quite delicate to the touch. Of course the satin gives a more glamorous feel to things and is far more suited to evening wear than everyday simply because satin shoes can stain easily. Despite being soft the material has got quite a bit of rigidity to it which is needed to keep the shape of the shoes as you don't want them to gape at the sides or start to crease with wear. They feel a little tougher around the heel than anywhere else on the shoe and again this is to keep the shape.
The decoration to these shoes is the 'bling' which forms like a toe cap effect just by a variety of clean gems which have been carefully glued onto the shoes. The gems are a variety of sizes which is also quite nice as it does add a bit of variety whilst giving a lovely glam effect. To give the shoes more of a top cap feel is the lovely black satin bow which is double layered so apart from being quite large it is also quite wide. Of course large bows are bang on trend at the moment whether on a blouse or around your hair so the bow really does add a little more detail to the already blinged up shoes!
The sole of the shoe is made from synthetic materials but is actually quite hard making them last a lot longer than if it had a rubber type sole. It has a very, very minor heel to it giving them a bit more of a grown up look, slightly more sophisticated than a complety flat ballerina type shoe. The inside of the shoe is black in colour which is in keeping with the black satin material. There is no padding in the footbed of the shoes which I guess is fine if you are not wearing them for a long periods of time.
I have had my pair of Carvela Light's for a few months now as I snapped up a pair right at the beginning of the sale and they have been worn regularly but mainly on nights where I am meeting a few friends at a nice local bar and don't want to wear heels as they do make a nice change. What I did notice was how soft the satin material was to begin with although the heel area which is quite tough did rub the back of my heels slightly to begin with which did make them uncomfortable to wear the first time and I did come away with a few red marks. But I do expect on some level that some shoes may rub and this would only have bothered me if they had continued to rub but fortunately they didn't.
Now they have been worn in properly they are quite comfortable to wear although I would have liked a little padding in the footbed as when there is nothing in terms of protection they can make my feet ache a little. Because they are made from satin you do have to be careful when wearing them as they do show up marks so wearing them when we have wet weather is definitely a no no! Apart from the small negatives I do really like these shoes as they do really put a bit of glam into an outfit without being over the top especially for week night drinks with the girls.
Overall, I am happy I bought these shoes and I am incredibly pleased I didn't pay full price for them as I would probably be slightly disappointed with paying the full price. Now I've worn them in, they are comfortable and they do the job that I bought them for. Would I recommend? Yes, if you want a pair of flat shoes just for going out on an evening and want a bit of bling then these are definitely worth a purchase especially now they are on sale! 4 stars from me.
