Looking for sensible childrens summer shoes that don''t cost the earth? Check out the "Doodles"!

I have been on the lookout for some shoes for my son. With a shoe size of 5G, we are very limited. Most of the shoes I have tried on him have been too tight as he has such wide feet. I was at my friends the other day and her 2 girls were wearing gorgeous shoes, so pretty and practical. I said "those are stunning!" She said they are "Doodles". Well I had never heard of them before. She proceeded to tell me that they had gorgeous pairs for boys with a jungle theme and various other types. Suddenley, I had it in my head that my son should have a pair of "Doodles". He even had it in his head that he was having a pair of "Doodles".

I have to be very honest there are so many lovely girls clothes and pretty shoes around and the boys sections in shops is much smaller, limited and not as exciting... but these "doodles" really sounded lovely and I was going to check them out. I had heard that you could get them in a few shops but Clarks was the cheapest. I didn't realise that they were Clarks Doodles.

My son has taken a dislike to having his feet measured and all the bribes of sweets etc just don't seem to work. He had his feet measured and sure enough they had grown. Typical, I would have to buy him Doodles and another pair of shoes for worse weather (as the doodles aren't waterproof). The tears were streaming down his face and then he caught sight of a monkey and a lion and soon enough he was busy telling the sales assistant what were on the Doodles. Fortunately they had them in his size and he became so excited to try them on. What a transformation! Thankfully, they were a perfect fit and he wanted to keep them on. When Daddy came home my son told him that these were "Doodles".

I have to say the choice was fab. I can't remember the designs on the other pairs, I think one had fish, but they were stunning and there were a few to choose from. At last a pair of shoes for boys that had some life to them!

I think they are great. You can wear them with or without socks and look so comfortable. At £14 I thought they were great value. They look like they should have been more. I didn't really pay much attention to the girls range but I'm sure they would have been just as good.

They also have open-toe sandal type Doodles which looked good. I wanted the closed-toe type as my son is only 20 months and I thought these had more support. They are much nice and cheaper than crocs. They have them in a range of sizes and you will just find you are spoilt for choice.

Summary: Doodles are a great summer shoe for boys and girls
