A magnificent feat for little feet (Clarks Doodles)

Despite being pretty tight fisted when it comes to buying brand name products, my children's feet are something I won't scrimp on. Like my mother before me, I go to Clarks to get shoes for my boys, and it is there that I first saw a pair of Doodles.

The shoes are made out of the sort of material that wetsuits are made of, and are therefore machine washable, wipeable and all round hard to stain, which is ideal because it means you don't need to worry about your little ones running around in mud, sand or water: just pop them (the shoes not the little one) in the washing machine when you get home and they'll be good as new. They're even really quick to dry so it's a double bonus.

Because they're so light-weight, I am sceptical about just how much better for feet they are than cheaper shoes, but I trust that the people at Clarks know what they're doing.

They often come with cartoony pics of animals on, such as a turtle and a crab. This makes them much more fun for kids, which in turn makes them more happy to sit still and comply when you put them on their feet. At around £15, they're not cheap, but if you're not willing to splash out for your kid's feet, what are you happy to?

The only down-side is the fastenings are often Velcro, which tends to lose its stick when you've put them in the wash a few times. Because of this, be sure to choose a pair that isn't Velcro, but one of the other types of fastening.

Something to think about: Clarks have sporadic sales every now and again, so keep your eyes open every time you go into town, and take advantage; Doodles, were 50% off last time I looked!
